Dr. Michael Rossi arrives by train in the small New England town of Peyton Place. He is greeted at the station by teenager Rodney Harrington and his girlfriend, Betty Anderson, who drive him to the local inn. Rodney catches his father, Leslie Harrington, wealthy head of the Peyton Place Mills, kissing his secretary Julie Anderson, Betty's mother. Betty is confused by the sudden change in Rodney's demeanor and his conflicted silence. They break off in anger and Rodney drives away. He encounters virginal Allison MacKenzie, a special friend of his shy younger brother, Norman Harrington. Allison and Rodney are seen kissing by Constance MacKenzie, Allison's over-protective mother. Dr. Rossi befriends Matthew Swain, editor of the "Peyton Place Clarion".

Constance visits Mike Rossi to tell the truth, about the birth of Allison After breaking up with Betty, Rodney has a date with Allison. He puts all his charms on her to make her feel special Betty is desperate because Rodney left her, she tells her mother she thinks she is pregnant. George comes home angry and beats his wife.

After George beats up Julie, he asks for help with doctor Rossi, to whom he tells she fell off the stairs. Later, he tells to his daughter she is too good for Rodney. Michael confronts Constance with the fact she is shutting him out of her life. Meanwhile, Leslie asks Rod why he broke up with Betty. Leslie's affair with Julie comes up, which Norman hears. They are interrupted with George, who visits the Harrington house, tells Leslie about Julie's situation.

When Andrea Nichols asks Norman out for a date, he blames Rod for setting them up. Rod did this so he can go out with Allison. When Betty finds out Rodney went out on a date with Allison, she is shocked. Meanwhile, George feels guilty about hitting his wife and tries to make up with her. Matthew visits Constance and urges her to tell the truth about her father. Meanwhile, at the party Betty steals the attention from Rodney, which does not please Allison. She ends up dumping Rodney, after she sees Betty flirting with him.

Constance comes back from her night out with doctor Rossi and invites him in. Rodney thinks Allison is not interested in him. She ends up going home crying and blames her mother for her being afraid to love someone. The next day, doctor Rossi tells a shocked Betty she is pregnant. She next is afraid to tell her father. Julie forces her to tell Rod about the pregnancy. Meanwhile, Rodney invites Allison over for brunch. Michael is introduced to doctor Robert Morton. Norman is sad when he sees Rod and Allison together.

It's the yearly Peyton Place Founders Festival. Allison is at the Harrington house for a family brunch. Leslie finds out Catherine isn't feeling well. Rod tells Allison he loves her and they kiss. Meanwhile, Julie forces Betty to tell Rod about her pregnancy, but he doesn't want to talk to her. Catherine becomes suspicious of Leslie's long working hours and thinks he has an affair with Julie. They admit to each other they are unhappy. At the festival, Connie becomes jealous when she sees Michael with Laura. So is Betty, when she sees Rod with Allison.

Doctor Rossi asks Betty for a cup of coffee. George, who doesn't know about the pregnancy, sees them together and isn't glad with it. Doctor Rossi asks Betty why she won't tell Rod about the pregnancy. Betty responds she thinks he will think she is trapping him into a relationship if she does. Meanwhile, Julie tries to make Connie want to split Rodney and Allison up. Betty goes to Leslie's office to ask why Rod suddenly broke up with her after he visited him at his office. Leslie denies knowing the cause but tells he was with Julie. Betty was told by her mother she wasn't in the office when Rodney came by and so finds out someone is lying and makes clear she thinks they are having an affair. Meanwhile, George asks for anger management pills with doctor Rossi and he recommends him to visit a psychiatrist, because he assumes he was the one that made Julie fell of the stairs. Later, Leslie tells Julie he wants to leave Catherine for her. She rejects him and quits her job. She next goes to Betty, who despises her mother because of her affair.

While the fireworks of the festival are shot in the air, Rodney and Allison kiss. They are interrupted by Betty, who says she wants to talk to Rod. Meanwhile, Constance joins Michael and Laura for dinner. While Rod is talking to Betty, Allison is being harassed by biker Jimmy. She is rescued by George, who then finds out she's dating with Rodney. When he gets home, Julie tells him she has quited her job. Back in the car, Betty asks Rod what his feelings for Allison are. She tells him she knows about the affair of Leslie and Julie and confronts him with her pregnancy. Rodney is shocked and decides to drive back to Peyton Place. On their way, they are hit by a truck. Rod struggles to get out of the car and Betty is unconscious.

Matthew tells to Allison and Constance Rodney and Betty were involved in a car accident. He says Betty is badly injured and is in surgery in the hospital. When George finds out, he is enraged and takes out on Leslie, blaming his son Rodney for the cause. When Leslie confronts Rodney about the accidents, Rodney admits he planned to run away town with Allison, but can't anymore now because of Betty. Later, doctor Rossi doesn't want George around the recovering Betty. He leaves and demands Leslie to force Rodney to get back with Betty. Meanwhile, Matthew asks Allison not to call him uncle Matt anymore.

Doctor Rossi informs Julie and George that Betty had a miscarriage because of the car accident. Julie later visits her daughter and tells her George knows about the former pregnancy. Rodney tells Allison he has to be with Betty. Meanwhile, Leslie visits Betty and she gives him a hard time. She comes to his point and says he wants her to leave town and put the baby - he doesn't know about the miscarriage - up for adoption. She later tells to her dad about her conversation with Leslie and he swears revenge. Rodney drops in and suggests for them to marry. She knows he only does it because of the pregnancy. She accepts and doesn't tell him about her miscarriage.

Rodney and Betty have a fast marriage. When George tells Julie about the marriage, she is devastated. Rodney tells him he will get a job. Betty suggests he should do college and he gets mad at her because he is afraid she would want to control his life. Meanwhile, Allison feels sad about her break-up with Rodney and talks to Constance about it. The next day, Leslie and Catherine find out Rodney hasn't returned home after visiting Betty and confronts George. He admits he has given his daughter and Rodney his blessing with them moving to New York. They soon fight and George punches Leslie. Julies witnesses this and gets mad at George.

Betty tells Allison she and Rodney are married. When she tells Constance, she is mad and wants to do something, but is stopped by Michael. Constance becomes mad at her. Before Rod and Betty go to the Harrington house to inform them about their marriage, they stop by the Andersons. Julie confronts her daughter with not telling about her miscarriage. Meanwhile, Catherine again confronts Leslie about his contacts with Julie. When Rodney and Betty arrive, Leslie welcomes Betty in their family. When Rodney is out to get some champagne, Leslie tells her he only married her because of the pregnancy.

Catherine looks down on Betty, which Betty notices. Norman tries to support her, but Betty still leaves the Harrington house. She next goes to doctor Rossi, but he is at Connie's bookstore. There, he arranges a date with Connie. When he's back at his office, Betty tells him she hasn't told Rodney she has lost the baby. Michael persuades her to tell the truth to Rodney. After she leaves, Laura tries to figure out why Rodney and Betty got married and tells to Michael she thinks he knows the reason. He leaves for his date with Connie and takes him to his home, which once belonged to the Carson family. Connie is nervous, because she is in the house where Elizabeth Carson was murdered. Michael asks about it, and Connie says she was murder by her husband. She doesn't want to talk about it anymore and decides to leave. Meanwhile, Betty tells her father she feels guilty about lying to Rodney, but he tells her it's a good thing. They are interrupted by Rodney, who takes Betty for dinner.

Leslie tells Betty he accepts her as a Harrington member. Next, doctor Morton comes over to check on the sick Catherine. She asks him to spy on Betty, whenever she visits the hospital. Meanwhile, George visits Leslie at work to come up and get Julie's stuff. He apologizes to Leslie about hitting him. He also tells him he is going to open his own agency. Leslie doesn't want to lose him as a salesman, but George declines. Michael asks Connie out on a date again and she accepts. Allison is being gossiped about by classmates. Robert runs into Matthew and tells him he has his doubts about doctor Rossi. He next goes to Michael and asks about Betty. Michael doesn't let go any information and threatens doctor Morton with his job when Robert says he thinks Betty is manipulative.

Eli gets a letter from his son and when he reads it, he looks shocked. Betty visits her mother, who tells Betty she wishes she would've stopped her from marrying Rodney. Meanwhile, Eli visits doctor Rossi and tells him his son Elliot might be released from jail anytime soon and he wants his son to live in his old house again. When Michael asks him why he is so sure Elliot will return to Peyton Place again, on which he responds Elliot wants to find the man who murdered his wife on which Elliot himself was found guilty. At the same moment, Catherine tells doctor Morton she is upset Rodney married Betty. He next goes to Betty and tells her he knows about her miscarriage. Later that day, Laura visits Leslie and he tells her he is now a changed man. She asks hem not to give Betty a hard time. They are interrupted by the maid Christine, who warns them something has happened to Catherine. Meanwhile, Connie is at Michael's place for a drink. Michael asks her about Elliot Carson and she responds she didn't know him very well. But she soon admits the photograph of Allison's father is just a photograph. She doesn't tell who her real father is. They next kiss each other, but are interrupted by a phone call from Laura. He has to leave because Catherine is ill, which makes Connie disappointed.

Catherine is in a lot of pain and when Laura said she has called doctor Rossi, she demands to be treated by only doctor Morton. Michael comes over anyway and he knows the disease Catherine is having. Leslie doesn't believe him, because doctor Morton never found anything. Michael tries to take Catherine to the hospital, but she refuses. He says she will die if she won't and she finally gives in. Meanwhile, Allison comes back from her night out with Norman. Constance interrupts them to send Norman to the hospital. Norman blames himself for not being there when she collapsed. At the same moment, Rodney is having dinner with Betty and her parents. Betty tells her father doctor Morton knows about her miscarriage. She says she's panicking and is about to tell Rod she isn't pregnant. At the hospital, Michael calls Robert about Catherine's illness. He next tells Leslie he wants to operate her. He tells doctor Rossi he can't decide without doctor Morton. Later, Leslie confronts Laura with her feelings for Michael. They are interrupted by Michael, who says Catherine's decease is fatal and she has to be operated immediately.

Rodney and Betty get into a serious fight, when Rod is interrupted by the information of Catherine's illness. Michael tells Leslie his wife will die if he won't operate now, but doctor Morton won't arrive until another thirty minutes. Norman arrives in the hospital and Leslie tells him Catherine will be all right. Meanwhile, Rodney has left and Betty decides to leave town, packing everything she has. At the bus station, Allison runs into her and when she realizes Betty is leaving town for Boston, she tells Betty she is worried about her and asks her not to go on the bus. Betty finally decides not to leave. At the hospital, Michael starts operating Catherine when doctor Morton arrives. He is angry at Leslie for not waiting and interrupts Michael. He demands doctor Rossi to leave, but he refuses. They decide to work together, but it is too late for Catherine and she dies. Doctor Morton blames doctor Rossi for it, but Michael is more worried about the autopsy. Robert tells Michael he is planning on driving Michael out of Peyton Place.

When Eli Carson suffers an angina attack, he is helped by doctor Rossi, who instructs Laura to have Catherine Harrington's autopsy rescheduled. Meanwhile, a depressed Norman Harrington tries to buy liquor at Ada's place but is refused because of his age. He after wards blames doctor Rossi for the death of his mother Catherine. It is Allison who comforts him home. She is being bothered by Betty, who wants to thank her for preventing her leaving the city. She wonders if Allison and she could be friends after she admits she doesn't have any. Allison responds that maybe they could be. After Rodney admits to her he still has feeling for Allison, he returns home, where Betty tells him the truth about her miscarriage. He looks surprised and leaves. Allison tells her disapproving mother she still wants to be with Rodney.

After Mike talks to Connie, he returns to his office where Laura informs him a patient has backed out because of Catherine's death. Doctor Morton talks trash about Michael to Leslie, who sticks up for doctor Rossi. Meanwhile, Rodney tells his father Betty won't get a baby. He offers him to divorce her, but he responds it's more complicated. Betty interrupts them and tells Leslie she has hired a lawyer. At the same moment, Allison tells Matthew she doesn't want to write teen columns for him anymore and he responds she isn't allowed to miss another deadline anymore. Doctor Morton has arranged a meeting against doctor Rossi and when he walks in, Robert confronts him he should never have operated Catherine. Michael defends himself.

Leslie tells Betty to not make a big deal out of her future divorce with Rodney, but she tells him she isn't planning on divorcing his son. He then goes to her parents George and Julie to talk about the divorce, but he is annoyed with George, who thinks there is nothing Leslie can do. Meanwhile, Laura flirts with Mike, but he tells her that there is no future with the two of them together. At the same moment, Allison and Constance discuss about Mike being a suspect of Catherine's death. Robert talks to doctor Morton and he tells him the boarder has decided the operation was unnecessary and doctor Rossi will be fired. Doctor Rossi next gets mad at doctor Morton. When Constance talks to Matt, he tells her that Elliot Carson might be coming to Peyton Place because he is on parole.

He offers her money to leave town, but she rejects it. After he is convinced by Constance and Matthew, Rossi - who has recently lost his privileges at the hospital - pursues vindication of the charges against him. Meanwhile, the Harringtons are gathered when the will of Catherine is revealed. When attorney Theodore Dowell starts to read her will, he is called by William Kennerling, who has a codicil to the will.

William Kennedy comes to visit Leslie Harrington, while the will of Catherine is being read out loud. There are problems when it appears Martin Peyton, Catherine's father, is included in the will as well. George decides to also go the reading of the will. Meanwhile, Betty tells Julie Rodney has offered to pay her if she leaves town. She accuses Julie for not loving George, but Julie tells her she does love him. At the book store, Matt tells Constance he is to visit Elliot and that Elliot most likely will come to Peyton Place. Allison asks her about Elliot and Constance admits she doesn't want to see him again. Later, Constance is at Michael's place and he tells her he probably has to move if Elliot comes back, because he lives in Elliot's former house. He also makes clear he is thinking about moving back to New York City, but promises her he isn't going to leave. They kiss after wards. Meanwhile, Elliot is being annoyed by his prison mate and he threatens him.

Matt visits Elliot in prison, where Elliot makes it clear he is determined to return to Peyton Place and prove his innocence. Rodney flirts with Allison, but is embarrassed when they run into his ex-father-in-law George. George later goes to Mike after physically hurting Julie and asks for pills to prevent him of becoming violence. Meanwhile, Rodney has a fall out with Betty. Laura tells Mike Dr. Bradley was once a surgeon, after which Mike confronts him. Dr. Bradley lies to him and calls Dr. Morton.

Laura accepts a date with Dr. Joe Bradley. Bradley was the final surgeon of her deceased husband Donald Brooks. She wants to know if Donald told him anything about the surgery on Matthew Swain. Bradley tells her Catherine has died because of the shock and if Michael didn't pressure he in the surgery, she might still be alive. Meanwhile, Eli is glad when he finds out his son is coming home and shares the news with Constance. Michael asks Matthew about his surgery and they soon get into a disagreement. When Michael asks him if he thinks if he belongs in Peyton Place, Matt doesn't give him an answer. When George loses another client, he turns into drinking. A scared Julie flees to Leslie Harrington. After she comes back home, George knows she had gone to Leslie and abuses her. To protect herself, she hits him unconscious and calls doctor Rossi.

When help is looked for, Mike turns to the Anderson home. He soon worries about the domestic violence. George is taken to the Doctor's Hospital, where Mike and Dr. Morton anger each other about who is in charge. Julie temporarily stays at the MacKenzie house. Here, she is visited by her daughter Betty, who blames her for the situation. Bradley seeks out Morton and reveals that he lied about the Harrington autopsy out of a sense of obligation to Morton for having saved his career after the Swain surgery. Morton sends Bradley into "hiding".

Norman overhears Leslie urging Dr. Morton to proclaim Catherine incompetent when she ordered the codicil to her will, but he refuses to. Laura tries to help Mike out in the hospital, but he feels manipulated into spending time with her. Matthew stresses Connie when he tells her Elliot has his parole hearing tomorrow. Norman asks Allison out on a date and she accepts. Dr. Morton comes to Dr. Rossi's office and admits Michael was right and he was wrong and promises him he will reinstate him at the hospital and make a public apology.

While Mike tells George that Julie is staying at Connie, Julie insures Leslie she is leaving her husband. Leslie offers Julie her job back, but she refuses, saying it won't solve anything. Connie wants Allison to sign up for college, but she tells her mother it is too late to enroll in college in winter semester. Eli meets Elliot in prison. Meanwhile, Matthew asks Mike about his reinstatement, but Mike doesn't want to tell Matt about it. Betty doesn't want to go to a psychiatrist.

It's now winter and Allison tells her mother she doesn't think Elliot Carson has murdered his wife. When Betty visits Julie at the MacKenzie house, Julie tells her she is going to leave George. Later, Betty goes to her drunk father and he calls her Julie. Connie reveals to Mike that Elliot is Allison's biological father. Betty talks to Rodney and finally realizes that there is no love between them. Rodney offers her the divorce. She decides to leave town, but is stopped by Allison. She is not able to change Betty's minds and promises her she won't tell anyone about seeing her there.

Everyone is worried with Betty's sudden disappearance. Leslie and Rod hire a private detective, who claims to have seen her in a hotel called Quincy. While Rodney feels guilty and is sad, Leslie is delighted because he thinks a divorce can be final because of her "desertion". Mike and Connie grow more to each other. Laura tells Leslie that she thinks the family is no good. George visits Julie at the MacKenzie house. She tells him Betty has been gone for a while. Meanwhile, Allison admits to Rodney she saw Betty leave by bus. They are interrupted by George, who threatens to kill Rodney if Betty doesn't show up anytime soon. In the ending, a free Elliot Carson enters Peyton Place.

Elliot arrives in Peyton Place and first visits his father. Betty phones her mother to insure her that she is safe in New York. Allison prepares to sign up for Peyton College. Later, she meets up with Rodney and tells him Betty is in New York, but doesn't want to be found. Rod is annoyed by his feelings, because he is in love with his wife, but now also finds himself attracted to Allison. Afterwards, Allison has a polite talk with Elliot Carson. George later has a confrontation with Leslie, when he turns to the Mill and thinks he still works there for Leslie. When he arrives at his current job, his boss Mr. King demands his rent. George doesn't have the money and promises to give it to him later. After Mr. King leaves, George locks himself up in his office and pulls out a loaded gun.

It is midnight and George is still in his office with his gun. Julie and Connie are informed by Mr. King. Meanwhile, Elliot and Mike meet each other for the first time. Later, Mike and Julie arrive at George's office. When they hear a gunshot, it is Elliot who talks himself in the office. He hits George in the head and takes away his gun. He finally gives himself in to Mike and apologizes to Julie for his behavior. Mike tells Julie George is manic-depressive. Afterwards, Elliot meets Connie in her book store and asks her not to be afraid of him. She also tells him she doesn't want to tell the truth to Allison.

Elliot bonds with Allison when they talk about their love for writing. Later, Leslie offers Elliot a job at the mill, but he responses in-politely and refuses. Meanwhile, Laura resigns as Mike's secretary. Norman brags to Rodney that he has a date with Allison. Laura says to Mike she intends to make a world trip with his money. Allison asks Matt if she can use his archive to find information on Elliott. Elliot and Eli meet up with boarding house landlady Mrs. Hewitt. Elliott feels accused by her of his supposed murder on his wife. She apologizes and promises to make up with him. When she leaves, Elliott finds out his father thinks he actually did kill Elizabeth.

In New York, Betty applies at an employment agency, but refuses to tell where she is from. She is suggested to go back to Peyton Place. She is emotional and runs into Sharon Purcell, who offers Betty a helping hand. Back in Peyton Place, Laura is about to leave Peyton Place and gets drunk. Elliot goes to the Ada's Tavern, where Ada suggests him to leave the past behind after he asks her who Elizabeth's secret lover was. Elliott tells her he can't rest until he finds out who really killed Elizabeth. When Rodney tries to talk with Allison, she brushes him off. Connie sees this and asks him to leave Allison alone. At the library, Allison runs into Elliott. They talk about their love for poetry.

Connie and Allison are disappointed when Julie tells them she is ready to go to her own house. George is in therapy by Dr. Kessler. Mike asks Julie if she wants to be his secretary, since his latest secretary Laura has left for Europe. Julie agrees to consider his offer. Allison enrolls in Peyton College. When Rodney runs into Allison, he admits Connie has asked him not to hang out with her anymore. Meanwhile, Betty has befriended Sharon and they go out to shop for expensive clothes. When Elliot tries to refill the prescription of his father Eli, he is customized by Calvin Hanley, Elizabeth's father. He swears he didn't kill his daughter. At the moment Julie is leaving for dinner with Leslie, she gets a phone call from Betty. However, she has just left when the phone rings.

Betty calls her mother, but she isn't home. Elliot is visited by Elizabeth's brother Paul. Paull tells him he came back from Yale and is now a teacher. Elliot confronts him with Paul testifying against him. He asks Paul if he knows who really killed Elizabeth, and Paul responses it is Elliot himself. Meanwhile, Allison catches up with Rod and Norman and tells them Betty has called her, looking for her mother. Rod goes to Julie and tells her Betty has called. Julie thinks something has happened to her and is worried. At the sanitarium, George is in therapy by Dr. Kessler. He asks him about Betty, but George doesn't recognize her. Betty visits Sharon and she admits to Betty she has an affair with a married man. Elliot stops by Connie in her bookstore and tells her he would've married her if she wouldn't have been send to New York by her mother. They are interrupted by Mike, who is picking up Connie for a date. Elliot looks jealous and walks off alone.

After talking to Paul, Allison goes to the pharmacy, where Calvin tells her make-up will make her look cheap. Matt walks in and Calvin tells him he is certain Elliot has killed Elizabeth. When Betty and Sharon are catching up, Betty tells she won't return to Peyton Place. Michael tells Connie he isn't glad with Elliot in town. When Allison arrives at home, she tells about her hanging out with Paul. Connie tells her she wants her to see more people of her own age. Meanwhile, Elliot visits his father at the hospital. He tells him he is going to be operated. In New York, Sharon admits she sometimes feels empty inside when her married lover leaves for his family. They are phoned by him and he asks Betty out on a date. She reacts with hesitation, but accepts.

Elliot takes the bus to Lanford for a meeting with his parole officer E.J. Taggart. He next goes to the bookstore to bring a present to Allison, but Connie doesn't want him interfering with her and stops him. In New York, Betty and Sharon meet Sharon's married lover Phil and his friend Roy Roberts for a date. Meanwhile, Connie comes back from a dinner with Mike. Mike is frustrated she has her thoughts with Allison, who herself is out with Norman and Rodney. They eventually get angry at each other. In New York, Roy and Betty are alone in a room and he forces himself up to her. She is able to get away, but he thinks she's playing a game. She starts to scream and cries and he realizes he is molesting her. Roy calms her down and apologizes. He suggests her to go home and gives her money, before leaving.

Betty is phoned by Sharon's worried mother. She reminds her of her own mother and discovers she's a lot like Sharon. She next calls her own mother. Julie admits George is staying at a sanitarium. Betty is worried about him and promises to come home immediately. When she's packing her bags, Sharon unsuccessfully tries to stop her. Meanwhile in Peyton Place, Paul tells his father he talked to Elliot. Calvin tells him he did the right thing testifying against Elliot. Allison goes ice skating with Norman and they run into Paul. They join him for lunch. Elliot joins them as well, which causes tensions with Paul. At the Harrington house, Leslie tells Rod his detective has found out where Betty is staying. Rod isn't glad with a detective spying on her. They are interrupted by a phone call from Julie. She tells Rod Betty will return to Peyton Place. Leslie warns him with their history together.

Betty returns to her home in Peyton Place. Julie asks her if she would've stayed in New York if she hadn't told her father was ill, and Betty replies she would've. Rodney stops by and Betty tells him she will stay at her mothers for a while. Connie keeps Elliot company at the hospital, where Eli will be operated by doctor Rossi. Connie admits she has met Michael before when she gave birth to Allison. Meanwhile, Betty and Mike visit George at the sanitarium, but he doesn't say a word. On their way home, Betty tells Michael she doesn't feel guilty for George's health. She next asks Michael to drop her off at the Peyton Mill, because she wants to talk to Leslie.

Betty visits Leslie - who is talking to Detective Blaine - at the mill to annul her marriage with Rodney. In exchange, she wants him to pay George's medical fees. Leslie agrees and after she leaves, Blaine gives him a report of her acquaintances with Sharon Purcell. Meanwhile, Allison asks her mother about her period in New York, but Connie doesn't want to say anything about it. They are interrupted by the mail man, who has a package for Allison. It contains a drawing of Allison of a secret admirer. Betty stops by Rod to end their marriage on a friendly way. When she is about to leave, Rod kisses her. Betty tells him she doesn't want to see him anymore. Allison goes to an art exhibition with her friend Abby and runs into Paul. They are interrupted by Rodney, who is being looked down on by Paul because he doesn't know much about art. Meanwhile, Elliot visits Connie at her home and looks at the photo that is supposed to be Allison's father. They get into a fight and Elliot throws the photo on the floor.

Paul drives Allison home. Elliot is just walking away from the MacKenzie home and gets a lift from Paul. Elliot thinks he is persuading her and reminds him Allison is only 18. Paul confronts him with his past, which makes Elliot angry. The next day, Betty runs into Allison in Calvin's shop. Betty admits she's ending her marriage with Rod. When they leave, Paul bumps into them and is introduced to Betty. He walks into the shop and confronts his father with giving him the idea Elliot has killed Elizabeth. Meanwhile, doctor Rossi advices Elliot for Eli to move to a warmer climate to improve his health. Elliot reminds him he doesn't have any money for his father to move. At Peyton Mills, Leslie is visited by Matt. Matt is the executor of Catherine's will and reminds him Catherine wanted the mill to be owned by her father Martin Peyton. They are interrupted by doctor Wainwright, who has information about Catherine knowing he was unfaithful to his wife.

While having breakfast, Norman blames his father for the Harringtons not getting a penny out of Catherine's will. Rod tells his father he will stop by Betty, and Leslie warns him for having contact with her. He gives Rod the reports of detective Blaine about her so-called encounters with another man while in New York. At the MacKenzie house, Allison is celebrating her mother's birthday. She receives flowers from Michael by mail. Meanwhile, Rodney confronts Betty with her receiving money from a man in New York. He thinks more things have happened and admits she was being investigated. Betty gets angry at him, which results in Rodney hitting her. Connie tells Matt she knows the town is talking about her past with Elliot and is afraid Allison will find out the truth about her father. Elliot walks in and asks her out, but she tells him she already has plans with Mike. At the hospital, Betty visits doctor Rossi and tells him she doesn't know what to do with her life. They are interrupted by an injured child called Lucy Adams. It is Betty who cheers her up. Allison walks into Paul at the movies and admits she wants to join the New York field trip, arranged by him. Meanwhile, Connie and Mike are having dinner and Connie tells him that if Elliot actually did kill Elizabeth, she is the one to blame. Back at home, Connie doesn't allow Allison to go on a field trip, because Paul is the chaperon.

Eli is about to leave for Florida and Allison stops by to say goodbye. Elliot reveals to Eli Allison is his daughter. At the bookstore, Allison is mad at Connie for not giving her consent for Allison to go to New Yok. After Connie leaves, Matt stops by. Allison tells him Connie doesn't want to talk about New York and she says she thinks it has something to do with her father. Matt responds she needs to respect her mother's privacy. Meanwhile, Julie is finally Rossi's secretary. Betty visits her and reveals Leslie has hired a detective to spy on her while in New York. She tells him about Roy Roberts and why he gave her money. Mr. Wainwright is hired by Elliot to find the murderer of Elizabeth. Wainwright tells him he can't work for him. At the Harrington house, Leslie is frustrated Catherine revealed in her will she think Leslie has murdered Elizabeth. Elliot stops by and asks him about his encounters with Leslie. Leslie denies ever having had an affair with her. When Michael is at home, he finds a drunk Paul right outside his cottage. He reveals his late sister once lived there. At the same moment, Elliot passes along. Paul nervously excuses himself and leaves.

Elliot tells Mike he has got to proof he didn't kill Elizabeth. He wants to move in Mike's cottage. Julie confronts Leslie with hiring a private detective and demands him not to bother Betty anymore. Leslie gives her the only remaining copies of Betty activities in New York. Meanwhile, Rodney and Betty meet an attorney to sign papers for their divorce. At the sanitarium, Julie visits a more recovered George and she tells them about Betty and Rod's divorce. George asks her if she is alright with him visiting Peyton Place. When he's in another room, Dr. Kessler tells her he is almost back on his normal health. Julie worries it is too soon for his husband to be free. In Peyton Place, Allison asks Elliot why he got a ride from Paul a few days ago. Elliot admits he doesn't like him and thinks he is vicious and destructive. He warns her to stay away from him. He later tells to Matt he thinks Allison should know he is her father. Matt responds only Constance has the right to tell her. In the bookstore, Michael tells Constance he is moving out because Elliot wants the beach house. Matt drops in and urges her to tell Allison the truth about her father. Robert Wainwright stops by Calvin to tell him about Leslie's affair with Elizabeth. Calvin denies to believe him and sends him away. While on the streets, Elliot confronts Mr. Wainwright and Calvin witnesses this. Elliot walks into Calvin's place. Calvin tries to send him away, but Elliot insists on talking to him.

Elliot confronts Calvin in his shop with Elizabeth being unfaithful to him. He asks him who really killed Elizabeth and Calvin responds it was Elliot himself. When Elliot leaves, Calvin visits the Harrington house and confronts Leslie with having an affair with Elizabeth. He denies everything and Calvin threatens to destroy his reputation. Norman walks in on them and tells Leslie he thinks he is pursuing Calvin to tell Catherine had a lot of drug prescriptions, so everything she said in her will is not true. Meanwhile, Betty visits the injured child Lucy in the hospital. She later tells Mike she wants to have a family herself. Paul visits Connie and confronts her with her past in New York. She tells him she won't give Allison permission to go to New York. As soon as he leaves, she calls Elliot and he immediately visits her. She tells him she thinks Paul knows about her past. Elliot wants to know if she thinks he killed Elizabeth, but Connie does not respond. Norman visits Mr. Wainwright and asks him why Calvin visited Leslie on a late hour. Mr. Wainwright next visits Calvin and confronts him with his visit to Leslie. At the MacKenzie house, Constance tells Allison she isn't allowed to go to New York because of Paul. Paul witnesses his father collapsing.

Calvin Hanley has passed away. Allison asks Elliot about Eli, but Elliot responds with distance. Dr. Rossi suggests to his secretary Julie her daughter should consider becoming a nurse. Meanwhile, Betty and Rod's marriage is annulled. Leslie is told Martin Peyton will make sure he won't have a part in the ownership of the Peyton Mills. Norman walks in and tells his father he will testify against him if Leslie will try proving Catherine was incompetent while making her will.

Paul opens a casket and finds a wedding dress. He is haunted with his past testifying against Elliot. Julie admits to Connie she is concerned about George returning home. Michael prepares Nurse Choate on Betty applying as a nurse, but she responds the hospital doesn't need more staff. Norman visits Dr. Morton to talk about Catherine. Robert tells him he will help him proving she was not incompetent. Meanwhile, Betty arrives at the hospital for her job interview for a nurse's aid. Nurse Choate isn't impressed with her, but Michael tries to support her. He confronts nurse Choate, who tells him she won't hire her because of her personal problems and she also thinks Betty isn't responsible. Allison tries to comfort Paul after his fathers death, but he isn't moved. Outside, she runs into Rod. He tells her he wants to go out with her again. Paul has also found a diary in the casket and secretly leaves it at Elliot's cottage. Rod drives Allison home and asks her out for a ski date, which she accepts. After running into him, Allison mentions to her mother Elliot has become very distant to her. She tells Constance she thinks Elliot is lonely and they should invite him for dinner. Connie forbids the idea. At his cottage, Elliot finds the diary which belonged to Elizabeth.
