- The whole thing, by the way, shines in nifty color. But the real appeal of such wholesomeness is the brisk, unsugary serving, under Robert Stevenson's trim direction, and the consistently adroit humor, which sidesteps slapstick.

Ustinov is fine as the rum swilling, yo-ho-hoing Blackbeard, and there are several good scenes as he invisibly meddles with the big track meet. Jones and Miss Pleshette are amusing without being insufferably sweet.
- 75TV Guide MagazineTV Guide MagazineIt's all good fun, and Ustinov is very amusing as Blackbeard.
- 70Blackbeard's Ghost, a lively and entertaining Walt Disney production, features Peter Ustinov in a tour de farce title role as the restless spirit of the famed pirate. Dean Jones and Suzanne Pleshette share top billing. Robert Stevenson's direction is highlighted by several very amusing chase and special effects sequences.
- 50Time OutTime OutA typically larky Disney film, heavily over-directed and under-written.
