Jackie Chan is hailed as one of the biggest action stars in cinema. The Drunken Master fame has gained prominence for his action feats in both the Hollywood and Hong Kong film industries. But an anecdote proves that Chan is also as cool as any mainstream fictional superhero.
Actor Jason Isaacs claimed in a talk show that Jackie Chan caught a fly bare-handed, not once but twice.

The general consensus is a pirate movie will contain lots of epic sea battles and hidden treasures. Well “The Valiant Ones” may contain treasure of the stolen kind but there is barely a sighting of a ship throughout, despite the coastal setting. Yet this is a King Hu feature so put that initial concern to one side and prepare to rediscover one of his less prominent works as Eureka entertainment release it in a new 4K scan.

Akira Toriyama is the one who revolutionized the manga and anime industry. The Dragon Ball franchise set up the path for the Big Three to gain worldwide popularity and become a pillar of the business. Every hardcore anime fan knows that Dragon Ball was inspired by Kung Fu. Akira Toriyama even based one of the characters on Jackie Chan.
The mangaka was a massive fan of Kung-Fu. His magnum opus is a big proof of him being a martial arts fan. Apart from Jackie Chan, there is another famous martial artist who inspired Toriyama sensei.
His paralyzing gaze was shown through Goku while he was on planet Namek. The mentioned martial artist is none other than Bruce Lee. The Kung-Fu star was always with Akira Toriyama in his thoughts and soul.

The Dragon Ball series made Akira Toriyama a global superstar, and it was mostly thanks to the incredible fight scenes. While the original Dragon Ball manga was already groundbreaking for Shonen and what fans expected from combat scenes, Dragon Ball Z took things to a whole new level.
In every part of the Dragon Ball story, you can find some truly awesome fights. It makes sense, given that the series revolves around planet-conquering villains, world-renowned martial artists, and even literal gods trained in combat by angels. With such powerful fighters, you’re bound to get some epic battle scenes.
However, not all fights are created equal. Some stand out as better than others. The true mark of an iconic Dragon Ball fight isn’t just about the sheer power levels of the fighters involved.

When Cobra Kai returns to Netflix for its sixth and final season, the Karate Kid spinoff plans to expand the Miyagiverse significantly. The teen-focused drama Crane kicked martial arts action fans in the face in 2018, building on the Karate Kid legacy started by Ralph Macchio (Daniel Larusso), William Zabka (Johnny Lawrence), and Pat Morita (Mr. Miyagi). With every season, Cobra Kai has grown through fan-service casting, interpersonal drama, and hard-hitting action. No one could have predicted the Miyagiverse would expand the way it has because of Cobra Kai, and now the show’s co-creator, Jon Hurwitz, says fans can expect Season 6 to explore the franchise in exciting ways like never before!
In a thread on Twitter/X, Hurwitz assured fans the final season of the series delivers big surprises, in-depth character flashbacks, and plot elements that expand the Miyagiverse.
“Season 6 expands the ‘Karate Kid/Cobra Kai’ universe more than the first 5 seasons combined.

Interestingly, Dr. Slump manga also had a massive impact on the works of Jackie Chan. Earlier, it was revealed in Toriyama’s interviews that movies by Chan and Chinese literature were the main inspiration behind Dragon Ball. Sony‘s untitled Karate Kid film is ready to make Ben Wang‘s heart go pitter-pat after adding Cruel Summer actress Sadie Stanley to the cast. Stanley plays the romantic lead opposite Ben Wang (American Born Chinese) in the forthcoming marital arts drama, which also stars Joshua Jackson, Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio.
Plot specifics remain a mystery, though we hear Sony will move the story to the East Coast and focus on a teen from China who finds identity and strength in martial arts. During his journey of self-discovery, Wang’s character meets a disciplined martial arts master. With Chan and Macchio both appearing in the film, there’s a chance Wang’s character could train under two teachers. Jonathan Entwistle

Jackie Chan is recognized for his slapstick acrobatic fighting style, innovative stunts which he is known to perform on his own, and comic timing. The actor is one of the most influential action stars who’s had a global presence in both Eastern and Western industries. Without a doubt, the influence the actor has had over the years on pop culture is very hard to match and he is known to be the most recognized star in the world.
The actor who has appeared in near about 150 movies in his career has a reputation for performing his stunts with a lot of preparation but injuries are inevitable. Jackie Chan has managed to not only survive but also thrive after taking tons of knocks, which could probably knock down an average person easily. Usually, when people think of the greatest decade for action movies, the 80s are what they think of. After all, this is the era that gave us Lethal Weapon, Die Hard, the Rambo movies, and so many more. But, the nineties was just as important a decade, giving birth to just as many legends of the genre, and it was the last significant era for R-rated action flicks. But what are the best action movies of the 90s? It’s tough to say, but here are 10, plus an honourable mention, that we think we deserve a place in the pantheon.
Honourable Mention: Demolition Man:
When this came out in the fall of 1993, it wasn’t considered all that special. It apparently lost money at the box office, but within a few years, this Sylvester Stallone/ Wesley Snipes mashup became a major cult classic, and now it’s one of the...

Call it the Karate Kid Cinematic Universe.
Jackie Chan and Ralph Macchio, both of whom starred in Karate Kid movies decades apart, are set to reprise their popular characters in Sony Pictures’ latest installment of the iconic coming-of-age martial arts franchise.
Jonathan Entwistle, best known for his well-regarded and award-winning teen television dramas I’m Not Okay with This and The End of the F***ing World, is directing the untitled feature that the studio is positioning as the fusing and continuing the mythology of the original franchise.
A global search for a Chinese actor to play the erstwhile title character launched today, with the Chan and Macchio kicking things off with an introductory video, seen below.
Rob Lieber, whose credits include Sony’s Peter Rabbit and Disney’s Alexander and the Terrible, Horrible, No Good Very Bad Day, wrote the script. The plot line is hiding in the back of the dojo.

Jackie Chan is about to get a major new collection from Criterion, with the prestige label announcing a new set called Jackie Chan: Emergence of a Superstar. The set will contain a few of Chan’s early classics, including Fearless Hyena (and its sequel) and The Young Master, as well as a later film, My Lucky Stars, and a pair of his earliest vehicles, Half a Loaf of Kung Fu and Spiritual Kung Fu. Fans of Chan’s may be scratching their heads at a few of the titles, as outside of Young Master and Fearless Hyena, none of the films included in the set are considered his best work.
It seems like rights issues are keeping legit early classics like Drunken Master off the set, with the most puzzling choice being to include Fearless Hyena 2, which is really little more than a curiosity for fans. Chan notoriously quit...

A film about a primitive man, born as a bear, perhaps appropriately has some pretty primitive filmmaking. With Na Woong-nam (Park Sung-woong) born in 1997, on eating garlic he becomes human, as with the Danggun myth. And 1997 feels where this film belongs, in what is a fairly simplistic action comedy, rooted in the last century.
Bear Man is screening at New York Asian Film Festival
Woong-nam is discovered by Bok-cheon (Oh Dal-su) and Kyung-sook (Yeom Hye-ran), and the couple adopt him as their own son. Now twenty-five, his keen senses have earned him a place in the police force, but his lack of wit and concentration see him lose this role. He, therefore, has little more to spend his time than feature in friend Mal-bong's (Lee Yi-kyung) aspiring YouTube videos. But similar bear-child Lee Yung-hak (also Park), a mob boss' muscle, is caught in the act and becomes a wanted man.

The story of Wong Fei Hung can best be summed up by the adage taken from John Ford's “The Man Who Shot Liberty Valance”. g”. For modern audiences this would apply to the seemingly endless variations on the life of Ip Man. Yet before him we had generations of audiences growing up to the feats of the master of the “No Shadow Kick” and member of the Ten Tigers of Canton, Wong Fei Hung. Over the years there have been numerous incarnations representing him at various aspects of his life. In addition, we have gained a supporting cast of familiar sidekicks, mentors, and comic relief. All alongside the familiar sound of the “General Marching Under Orders” theme that has become so associated with the character. It's not often we get to see a character grow up on screen and so here we present the life of Wong Fei Hung in several cinematic chapters.

A pointed satire of the marriage market from We Are Lady Parts’ Nida Manzoor delivers the laughs – and some full tilt comedy action
Nida Manzoor created We Are Lady Parts for Channel 4, a sitcom about an all-female, all-Muslim punk band; now, for her debut feature film, she brings serious levels of goof, wack and zane for a feelgood action comedy with a very incorrect adjective in the title. It stars newcomer Priya Kansara as a young girl from a British-Pakistani family: Ria, a year 11 martial arts enthusiast and wannabe stuntwoman on a desperate mission to sabotage her older sister’s marriage to a guy that somehow only she can see is a sinister creep.
Kansara does a lot of her own gonzo stunts and kickboxing moves, and the sheer energy and full tilt comedy she brings to them had me thinking of the young Jackie Chan in Drunken Master.

“Jumping off is easy, Stepping off is hard”. A line uttered by Jackie Chan in his latest feature, a tribute to the role of the stuntman. In many ways a line that echoes the career of the great performer. Over the past decade, we have gone from the expectation of a Jackie Chan release, to hope after recent disappointments such as “Kung Fu Yoga” and “The Vanguard”. Whilst those made references to his advancing years, they still felt like imitations of what we had seen and become accustomed to before. With “Ride On”, we get a glimpse of a man finally coming to terms with his own mortality. Consequently, we got one of his most interesting works in quite some time.

By the early to mid 1980s, Jackie Chan had been a megastar in Asia for a few years, since the roaring success of Drunken Master. With The Young Master, Dragon Lord and Project A he had established himself as a director. What eluded him was global success. His first American film, Battle Creek Brawl hadn’t allowed him much control, and was a flop. The Cannonball Run did business, but he was hardly the star, and The Protector miscast him in a harder edged film, attempting to make him a cop in the Dirty Harry mould. Back home, he reshot much of The Protector, adding a new subplot and expanding the action for the Hong Kong cut, but he still wanted to make a contemporary cop movie that was also a true Jackie Chan film.

When MTV’s “The Real World” came along in 1992, there were no reality categories at the Emmy Awards, recalls uber-producer Jonathan Murray, who’s now overseeing “The Real World Homecoming” on Paramount+. “So we would be in non-fiction going up against a Bill Moyers news special,” he explains. “It was many years before they got the competition category and then the reality category, which now has been divided into structured and unstructured.” He joins Gold Derby as part of our Meet the Experts: Reality TV panel (watch the exclusive video interview above).
“Before us, this idea of casting people and putting them together to learn something hadn’t been done,” notes Murray. “We had documentaries where we just follow seven people who are already friends, but no one had this idea of putting people together to see what would happen.” The producer is a 15-time Emmy nominee who took home...

Fair or not, A-list actors tend to come with an added burden of expectations on their shoulders, at least among those who can still be counted among the rapidly dwindling ranks of bona fide movie stars these days. Not only do they have to maintain an extraordinarily high level of performance from movie to movie — or risk the dreaded accusations of "sleep-walking" through a role — but they can also feel even more pressure to go above and beyond the call of duty, delivering a movie that will turn a profit and also avoid shattering their perceived aura as top-tier performers at...

Hong Kong-based sales firm Golden Network has picked up international rights to Jackie Chan’s upcoming film “Ride On.”
The feature has recently wrapped production and is scheduled to be released on Dec. 31 in time for what is normally a peak cinemagoing period in China and elsewhere.
Asian films are currently struggling to achieve pre-sales in international markets, but “Ride On” could be an exception. Chan is reliably bankable in action and comedy films, with appeal in Asia, overseas diaspora territories and European TV, streaming and home entertainment markets.
“Ride On” is directed by one of China’s most bankable filmmakers, Larry Yang. Yang previously pleased critics with his 2015 rural drama “Mountain Cry” and then earned over 100 million at the box office with 2019 title “Adoring,” about six couples and their pets.

Back in 2005, a red-headed, cocky frat boy got on The Real World: Austin by showing up to his audition drunk. In 1978, Yuen Woo Ping and Jackie Chan sent shockwaves through the martial arts movie industry with Drunken Master. Up until this point, Chan had been starring in low budget films for director Lo Wei and, like many other performers, often been forced into the box of trying to be ‘the new Bruce Lee’ (most nakedly with New Fist of Fury). Snake in the Eagle’s Shadow had hinted at how this new collaboration with Yuen Woo Ping would allow Chan to be himself, and it made him a star. Drunken Master made him a phenomenon, and suddenly it was the film that the industry was trying to replicate.

“People like to see other people, for some weird reason, do crazy stuff on TV.” That’s Kaycee Clark’s explanation for why MTV’s long-running reality competition show The Challenge has remained so popular since launching in 1998. But Clark isn’t just a fan of the show; she’s a winner too, having triumphed in Season 37’s Spies, Lies & Allies edition.
“It’s just very relatable to a lot of people,” said Clark, who won Big Brother 20 on CBS before jumping to play The Challenge during Season 35 (Total Madness) and Season 36 (Double Agents). Clark, along with longtime contestant Chris “Ct” Tamburello, showrunner Emer Harkin and host T.J. If you love martial arts films, then the 1978 film "Drunken Master" should be on your watchlist. The film is all-time martial arts classic, starring Jackie Chan as Chinese folk hero Wong Fei-Hung. It put Jackie Chan on the map in Asia, the first step towards him becoming the superstar he is today.
"Drunken Master" was the second collaboration between Chan and director Yuen Woo-ping, following "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow," which released earlier that year. It's credited with not only popularizing the Drunken Boxing style of Chinese martial arts, it's also one of the earliest showcases of Chan's specific flavor of action comedy. The popularity...

The films by audiovisual artist Yuri Ancarani have often emerged from the interstices of documentary and fiction, but nowhere has that divide felt more porous than in his latest, Atlantide. A close-up study of teenage life on Sant’Erasmo, an island on the edges of the Venice lagoon, the film follows a smattering of teens as they fritter away their adolescence chasing each other aboard modified barchini (speedboats) in a quest to become the fastest rider this side of the Adriatic. Among them is Daniele (Daniele Barison), the closest Atlantide comes to a protagonist. A sullen teen with high cheekbones and a sorrowful gaze, his barchino races and tumultuous relationship with girlfriend Maila (Maila Dabalà) offer something of a narrative backbone Ancarani returns to in between all the film’s meanderings. But Atlantide, much like its predecessors, doesn’t unspool as a linear three-act drama so much as a succession of images and vignettes.

Jackie Chan is one of the biggest action stars in the world. The Hong Kong legend has been doing his own stunts since "Snake in the Eagle's Shadow," the 1978 film that cemented his name as a certified action star. Chan's slapstick kung fu comedy style has been celebrated ever since, and although the actor's long stunt-filled career has made him a household name, it has also given him some severe injuries. Throughout the course of his films, Jackie Chan has performed several dangerous stunts, and he has a catalog of broken bones to prove it.

The Challenge is making the jump from MTV to CBS.
Paramount announced a series order for The Challenge: CBS, which will air in the Summer.
The series features “reality titans from the CBS universe will compete in the most unpredictable and demanding game of their lives.”
The contestants in the series would be vying for a spot on The Challenge's War of the Worlds championship event series on Paramount+.
They would compete against contestants from the just announced The Challenge: Argentina, The Challenge: Australia, and The Challenge: UK.
The Challenge is going global, and this could be a great way to introduce new competitors into the franchise.
MTV used to have feeder shows to bring new blood into The Challenge, but in recent years, we've had contestants from Big Brother, Shipwrecked, Survivor, and Love Island.

I consider myself a pretty big fan of martial arts cinema. I began collecting the Hong Kong Legends label early in its life, and now have approximately 80% of everything they ever released. I also do my best to keep up with the genre, though that’s a difficult task due to how few foreign examples get proper UK releases. Before the Golden Harvest era, which was where Hkl concentrated their releases, I confess that my knowledge is limited, and that’s probably why I hadn’t stumbled on Joseph Kuo Nan-Hong before this set was announced.
Collecting 8 of Kuo’s films (one of them in two different cuts), in two themed collections, this boxset is an ideal introduction to director whose films have probably previously been largely dismissed in the UK thanks to bad dubs and incorrectly framed releases.

It was another chaotic Tribal Council on “Survivor 41” on November 10, which resulted in Tiffany Seely being eliminated from the game and becoming the first member of the jury. The 47-year-old teacher was voted out after the majority alliance split their votes between her and Xander Hastings, continuing their strategy of targeting the former Yase tribe. However, other names were brought up as targets, with four players ultimately earning votes. But do you think Tiffany was the right person to take out? Vote in our new poll:
