Excellent synopsis of the Fall of Jerusalem and Why
This video is an excellent summary of the political environment that encouraged the Jews of the first century to push against Roman domination so hard that Rome had to take notice. Israel had been appeased by Rome for a very long time. But in this final revolt Rome (under Nero who was already having problems with Jews and supposedly Christians elsewhere in the Empire) decided it was time to dispatch this thorn in the side of the Empire once and for all. Vespasian was sent to do the job in 67 AD, but then Nero died and Vespasian returned to Rome to claim the throne. Later Vespasian sent his son Titus to finish Jerusalem. After a long siege, the walls of Jerusalem fell to Rome and the city was burned. The Jews inside continued to move inward until the last remaining ones were gathered in the Temple which was burned down over them as they cried out to God for salvation that would not come as it had in the past.
