After developing Big Brother (still airing on CBS and in dozens of other countries) in 2000, the Dutch mogul sold his first company, Endemol, to Spain's Telefonica for around $5 billion, then launched Talpa, which

Fox is trying to create a perfect world with new unscripted series, “Utopia.” Or rather, the show’s contestants are. The series comes from John de Mol (“Big Brother,” “Deal Or No Deal,” “Fear Factor,” “The Voice”), and is based on the hit Dutch television series of the same name. “Utopia” will move a group of everyday people to an isolated, undeveloped location for an entire year, challenging them to create their own civilization. The “pioneers” will have limited amenities and no existing power structure. Each must become indispensable to the group or risk being replaced by potential newcomers. The Utopians will be able.

The breakfast television presenter, who currently hosts The Morning Show alongside Kylie Gillies, is believed to be in talks to front the old game show when it returns after the original host Ian Turpie passed away last week. According to The Daily Telegraph, The Price is Right is scheduled to air on weekday evenings on the Seven Network later this year. A Seven insider said: "He's the logical choice and, talk is, the only real choice at this stage." However, Deal or No Deal host Andrew O'Keefe has suggested that Emdur would be too busy to take on the role. He said: "I think Laz has a bit on his plate at the moment, but he does have a particular fondness for the razzle dazzle of the game (more)...

Andrew O'Keefe has revealed that he feels "restless" in his job as host of Deal or No Deal. The star, who has three children with wife Eleanor, said that he likes spending time at home so would have to quit one of his current roles if he ever wanted to take on a new television project. O'Keefe has presented Deal or No Deal for eight years, and has also hosted Weekend Sunrise alongside Samantha Armytage since 2006. He told National Features: "I've got a young family, so I have been quite happy to do what I know how to do and not stretch myself too far. I can't do any more than I am doing for fear of cannibalising one or other of the projects through over-exposure. ProSiebenSat.1´s Red Arrow Entertainment Group has acquired a majority stake in the U.S.production company Kinetic Content launched in March by former Rdf Media USA CEO Chris Coelen. Comedian Howie Mandel is headed back to NBC, this time as host of the game show Deal or No Deal. Deal was described as "a big, exciting game show that contains nail-biting drama and hefty cash prizes" when NBC announced the pickup of the show earlier this year. The show is based on an Endemol format that has been a hit internationally, airing in 38 countries. Deal is set to begin production this week, though no airdate has been set, an NBC spokeswoman said. Mandel is a frequent guest and contributor of comedic bits to NBC's The Tonight Show With Jay Leno. He just wrapped a short run on NBC Universal-owned cable outlet Bravo in the comedy/reality series Hidden Howie. He first gained national fame as a member of the ensemble cast of the medical drama St. Elsewhere, which ran from 1982-1988 on NBC. Mandel is repped by ICM, 3 Arts Entertainment and attorney Bill Sobel.

SYDNEY -- The Nine Network's dominance in news and current affairs, long regarded as the linchpin of the network's success, is under threat from its archrival the Seven Network, whose main evening bulletin on Wednesday celebrated its first national win since 1993, excluding the Sydney 2000 Olympics. Not even one of the Nine's most popular programs, "Who Wants to Be a Millionaire?" has been able to stem the leakage of viewers to Seven from 5:30 p.m.-7 p.m. Wednesday night's win is unlikely to be a one-off as Nine's stranglehold on the crucial 6-7 p.m. time slot has been loosened largely by the success of gameshow Deal or No Deal, shown at 5:30 p.m. as a lead-in to Seven's news.
