We had learned about an interesting horror project earlier this month titled Wolf Night, a werewolf movie set to be directed by Jonathan Liebesman. The film has been compared to both District 9 and The Purge… with werewolves… and Deadline brings us a big update this week.
The hot Platinum Dunes package has been picked up by Screen Gems, Deadline informs us, with Michael Bay and Brad Fuller producing Wolf Night for Platinum Dunes.
Will Honley and April Maguire wrote the screenplay for Wolf Night, but aside from the comparisons to the aforementioned movies, the plot is under wraps at this time.
Jonathan Liebesman’s directorial credits over the years also include Rings (2005), The Killing Room (2009), Wrath of the Titans (2012), and Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (2014).
Will Honley recently wrote Escape Room: Tournament of Champions.

The Marvel Cinematic Universe has given birth to a number of fan theories through decades, from which only a few were later confirmed. Since MCU began connecting universes in the superhero genre, with Robert Downey Jr.’s 2008 Iron Man, the franchise simply continued expanding and creating new stories and theories.

MCU’s connected universes simply offered viewers the opportunity to come up with theories on how some movies, characters, and events are connected. One of the most controversial twists that ended up being a theory of its own was spotted in Robert Downey Jr.’s Iron Man 3. Surrounding the story of The Mandarin, the movie created a major mistake that gave birth to a fan theory, which had to be later corrected by another hit film.

Dan Schneider ruled the 90s and early 2000s television; producing and directing one hit show after another. Schneider’s shows like, The Amanda Show, together with sitcoms Kenan & Kel, Drake & Josh, Zoey 101, iCarly, and Victorious gave the industry some of its biggest names.
However, Schneider’s golden era went downhill very quickly when many stars stepped out during the MeToo moment. It is not lost on the masses that many have stayed tight-lipped on the matter. The most prominent name on that list is Ariana Grande’s.

Playing the role of Cat Valentine on the popular Nickelodeon show Victorious, it is highly probable that Grande might have witnessed something untoward if she did not have that happen to her. Hence, her silence on the matter has always been strange. Fans have all sorts of theories and guesses for why she might have stayed mum.

Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings is regarded as one of the top-tier MCU projects released after Avengers: Endgame. 2023 was a miraculous year for German actress Sandra Huller. Not only did she receive critical acclaim for her riveting portrayal of a woman on trial for murdering her husband in France’s “Anatomy of a Fall,” she was also praised for her role as the wife of a Nazi commander in the United Kingdom’s German-language “The Zone of Interest.” Indeed, there was much interest in Huller and her two films. She was nominated for the Academy Award for Best Actress for “Anatomy.” And both “Anatomy” and “Zone” landed slots for Best Picture, as well as Best Director bids for Justine Triet and Jonathan Glazer, respectively.
As I was speaking to academy members ahead of last Sunday’s ceremony, I detected a surprisingly robust amount of support for Huller. And many of those who had voted for her mentioned her work in “The Zone of Interest.” It really did seem...

The Original Avengers assembled to fight Loki’s invasion of New York and became the most iconic team of the MCU. The team was balanced, had some precedent in the comics, and served as the premiere IP for the franchise for at least a decade. However, the team found itself disassembled in the wake of Avengers: Endgame, with only three members still active, but not united.
Black Widow, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye, Iron Man, and Hulk in The Avengers (2012)
Essentially speaking, since Avengers: Endgame, there has been no concrete team of heroes to carry the mantle of the group. While a host of heroes have been introduced in films and streaming series, none of them have united as a team, leaving the fate of a major part of the franchise up in the air. However, there are more than a few candidates for a core team that could take the IP forward,...

Marvel's "What If..." has employed a mix of reprisals and recasts from the movies. Captain Peggy Carter may have the super soldier serum, and Strange Supreme went down a darker path, but they're still played by Hayley Atwell and Benedict Cumberbatch like the originals. Tragically, T'Challa-as-Star-Lord also went down as Chadwick Boseman's final performance.
On the other hand: Mick Wingert fills in for Robert Downey Jr. as Tony Stark/Iron Man, Lake Bell plays Black Widow instead of Scarlett Johansson, and season 1 big bad Infinity Ultron was voiced by Ross Marquand, not James Spader.
"What If..." season 2 brings in two characters not seen in season 1, Hela (the villain of "Thor: Ragnarok") and Wenwu (the villain of "Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings"), and pairs them up in episode 7: "What If... Hela Found the Ten Rings?" The episode splits the difference on recasting: Wenwu is voiced by Feodor Chin,...

This Lord of the Rings article contains spoilers for The Rings of Power.
While the first season of Amazon’s The Rings of Power bowed all the way back in 2022, we’ve yet to hear when season 2 will finally arrive on the streaming service. But during the wait, we have learned quite a few things about the upcoming season through set photos and updates from the show’s stars, including Morfydd Clark, who spoke to Den of Geek last year about what’s next for Galadriel. The latest update comes from actor Charlie Rich’s Instagram Stories, where he seems to confirm that Gavi Singh Chera (The Undeclared War) is set to play Annatar, one of the Dark Lord’s other forms in J.R.R. Tolkien’s legendarium, in season 2.
It’s important to note that Amazon hasn’t officially confirmed who Chera is playing, so take the following with a grain of salt.

Admit it: you started this episode knowing who was going to go home, right?
If you are a true student of Dancing with the Stars, you should be able to predict the order in which the celebs are given the boot. Sure, there is the occasional misstep; many of you thought Barry Williams would be toast long ago, but the chipper senior actually made it to week 8, along with the inexplicably fortunate Harry Jowsey.
Williams is gone now, but Jowsey is not. Will his great luck finally run out tonight?
But wait! I should be saving space for the real star of the ballroom — Taylor Swift! Alas, the recording star didn’t show up in her Danskins. Instead, we got her music, her choregrapher Mandy Moore as a guest judge, and a pre-taped sorry y’all from Tay Tay herself: “I so wish I could be there, but I’m on tour in Brazil.

Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy amassed 28 Oscar nominations and 17 wins between the three films while the prequel “The Hobbit” series garnered a further seven nominations. Out of those 35 Academy Award bids, however, only one came for acting. That was for Sir Ian McKellen when he was nominated in 2002 for Best Supporting Actor for “The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring.” It was Jim Broadbent who won that category that year, for “Iris,” so Middle Earth performers have been overlooked somewhat for their part in the huge success of the fantasy film series. However, a handful of thespians who have appeared in either “The Lord of the Rings” or “The Hobbit” (or both) have found Oscar success elsewhere in their career. Here’s the rundown.

The acting ensemble in Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy is nothing short of spectacular. Younger actors including Elijah Wood and Orlando Bloom became stars while the cast was peppered with veteran thespians, too, including Sir Ian McKellen, Christopher Lee, and John Rhys-Davies.
British actors such as Sean Bean and Andy Serkis, American stars like Sean Astin and Viggo Mortensen, and Australian performers including Cate Blanchett and David Wenham all melded together to breathe life into Middle Earth. The shocking thing, however, is that only one actor landed an Oscar nomination for their work in the esteemed trilogy. That was McKellen, who was nominated in 2002 for playing Gandalf the Grey in the first movie, “The Fellowship of the Ring.” But so many more actors could and should have been nominated for their work in Jackson’s film series. Here are just five such cases.

There's no disappointment quite as confusing as when a film gets canceled. It might happen suddenly, or become inevitable as a passion project suffers delay after delay. Then, when it does happen, it's usually because of shrouded problems behind the scenes or other powers beyond our control, like luck and timing. Suddenly, an exciting project ceases to exist. For hard-working artists and eager cinephiles alike, it's like a rug getting pulled.

The episode of The Black Sheep covering The Texas Chainsaw Massacre: The Beginning was Written and Narrated by Andrew Hatfield, Edited by Brandon Nally, Produced by Lance Vlcek and John Fallon, and Executive Produced by Berge Garabedian.
When did the Texas Chainsaw movies get so muddled with so many timelines? It’s not a hard thing to do. People get lost in Texas and end up victims of Leatherface and his family. I’m not saying there shouldn’t be a story line or a variation on things from time to time, hell, that’s what made Freddy, Michael, and Jason so popular. You could have even done something like the legacy sequel for Halloween, at least the first one. Oh wait, you did, and it didn’t turn out well with characters that made terrible decisions and weren’t likeable in the first place? Oh yeah, I remember that one.

Oh wait, you did, and it didn’t turn out well with characters that made terrible decisions and weren’t likeable in the first place? Oh yeah, I remember that one.

At last count, there have been nine studio-sanctioned feature films to have been adapted from J.R.R. Tolkien's Middle-earth fantasy novels.
"The Hobbit," the first book in the series, was published in 1937, while a follow-up trilogy called "Lord of the Rings" was published in 1954 and 1955. Tolkien was both a linguist and a pacifist, so the books tended to lean toward elaborately constructed fantasy languages as well as antiwar themes. The mythology of Middle-earth was so vast and complex, Tolkien also wrote a book called "The Silmarillion" in which deep-cut details from within the "Rings" universe were laid out in excruciating, mythological detail.
For many years, multiple filmmakers and producers attempted to adapt the first book, "The Hobbit" to film. According to Brian J. Robb's and Paul Simpson's 2013 book "Middle-earth Envisioned: The Hobbit and The Lord of the Rings: On Screen, On Stage, and Beyond," Walt Disney had considered...

Following up on his two acclaimed horror directorial efforts, “Before The Fall” and his entrée into Hollywood with the “Rings” franchise, Spanish director F. Javier Gutiérrez returns to Spain and takes us on the disturbing journey of a man who loses everything to evil with “The Wait” (“La Espera”). Set in the remote, magical, and forgotten Andalusian countryside, “The Wait” is a sinister folk horror tragedy place marked by ancestral traditions.

In his director’s statement for The Wait (La espera), F. Javier Gutiérrez describes his latest feature as a “slow-burn supernatural neo-western set in Spain in the 1970s.” That’s certainly an apt summary, but one that also underscores the movie’s main problem: It’s trying to be too many things at once, and by doing so amounts to less than the sum of its parts.
The Spanish filmmaker’s debut from 2008, Before the Fall, tried to combine a disaster flick with a home-invasion flick, yielding similarly sketchy results. In both cases, Gutiérrez showcases a keen sense of style but an inability, despite all the genre-jumping, to make something that feels truly original. World premiering at Oldenburg, with additional dates set for Sitges and Fantastic Fest, the film could provide decent streaming fodder for fans of international thrillers while finding a small theatrical audience at home in Spain.

After the success of his debut film Before the Fall (2008), Spanish director Javier Gutiérrez followed Hollywood’s call and directed Rings (2017), the third entry in The Ring horror franchise. The Oldenburg Film Festival, Germany’s leading all-indie fest, unveiled highlights for its 30th-anniversary edition, including several world premieres featuring Oscar-winner Marion Cotillard and Mission : Impossible star Ving Rhames.
Uppercut, a boxing film featuring Mission: Impossible star Ving Rhames, will close the festival on September 17. Director Torsten Ruether remade his own, German-language, debut Leberhaken, which premiered in Oldenburg in 2021. The Million Dollar Baby-style story sees Rhames as a disillusioned former boxer who gets a shot at redemption when a young woman shows up at his gym, begging him to train her.

While Amazon Prime Video’s Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power managed to wrap filming on its second season amid an ongoing writers strike that’s delayed productions elsewhere, the show hasn’t really enjoyed the victory lap it hoped in 2023. A tepid response to season 1, both from fans and critics, has put even more pressure on a show that was already carrying massive expectations on its shoulders due to both its beloved source material and its reportedly $1 billion price tag.
In April, viewership data released by THR revealed that only 37 percent of US and 45 percent of international audiences actually watched the first season of The Rings of Power all the way through, a less than desirable result for a show that is said to be the most expensive ever produced. It suggests that, while early episodes attracted a large audience, the majority of viewers on both sides...

A version of this story about director the music of “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” first ran in the Drama Series issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine
Led Zeppelin famously invoked J.R.R. Tolkien’s “Lord of the Rings” series in several hit songs (“Ramble On” and “Misty Mountain Hop” among them), and if you’re looking for the right composer to reimagine Middle-earth for a multiyear Amazon Prime series adaptation, you go right to the ultimate rock-and-roll composer: Bear McCreary.
But don’t let the long dark hair and drummer vibe fool you, as McCreary can craft a dramatic, haunting score for just about any genre there is. “Sci-fi, fantasy, horror, period pieces, these are all things that inspire me and get me out of bed,” says McCreary with a noticeable jolt of energy. “And “The Lord of the Rings” is the godfather of so much of that.

Peter Jackson‘s “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy was a box office and awards blockbuster when it was released from 2001 to 2003. Now the ambitious big-budget “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” streaming series has come two decades later. But will it do as well at the Emmys as the trilogy did at the Oscars?
“Lotr” was embraced by the motion picture academy right away, though it took a few tries for the sprawling fantasy epic to be awarded in the top categories. The first film, 2001’s “The Fellowship of the Ring,” burst out of the gate with 13 nominations and won four of those: Best Cinematography, Best Makeup, Best Original Score, and Best Visual Effects. But it was denied in top categories, with Best Picture going to “A Beautiful Mind.”

Andy Serkis is coming off his riveting performance in Disney+’s Andor, but the role that made him a fan-favorite could be coming back around again if Warner Bros. and New Line have their way.
The studios announced in February they were looking to develop new Lord of the Rings movies that would be set during the Third Age — during which Serkis’ devious, tragic character Gollum was around. Original trilogy director Peter Jackson and his writing team are in talks about potentially being part of the new films.
There are many “ifs” to all this right now, but we asked Serkis another: If a movie is greenlit, with Jackson’s team in the mix, would he be interested in being a part of it?
“I adore those guys and they are a second family to me,” Serkis tells The Hollywood Reporter. “I’ve spent so many years making films with them.

"One Ring to rule them all ..."
Fans aren't likely to forget the haunting words narrated by Cate Blanchett's elf queen Galadriel which open 2001's "The Lord of the Rings: The Fellowship of the Ring," adapted from author J.R.R. Tolkien's original text. In short order, director Peter Jackson had summed up much of the backstory that newcomers would need to hit the ground running and understand the plight of Middle-earth under the threat of the Dark Lord Sauron's return. But as much as the trilogy relied upon the fate of the One Ring, it mostly left all those other Rings of Power strictly on the sidelines.
That's where Prime Video's "The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power" series came in, filling in the gaps from thousands of years earlier in the canon to tell the sprawling tale of how the heroes of Middle-earth dealt with Sauron the last time he appeared.

In the penultimate episode of The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power season 1, Elendil’s (Lloyd Owen) eldest son Isildur (Maxim Baldry) is seemingly crushed by a burning building while rescuing Queen Míriel (Cynthia Addai-Robinson) and others during the orcs’ attack on the Southlands. Isildur is presumed dead by his father and fellow soldiers, and they mourn him as such. However, a set photo from the filming of The Rings of Power’s second season seem to indicate that Isildur somehow survived the collapse and the fire and is very much alive.

Led Zeppelin had many songs with fantastical imagery. “Immigrant Song” is a perfect example of a song that blends visions of mythology into an epic rock song. One fantasy author who influenced members of Led Zeppelin was J. R. R. Tolkien, the legendary writer of The Lord of the Rings series. Here are three Led Zeppelin songs featuring Lord of the Rings references.

Elijah Wood is “fascinated” and “surprised” over Warner Bros. developing multiple new “Lord of the Rings” movies. The studio announced the plan in February. Wood, of course, played the hobbit Frodo in Peter Jackson’s original “The Lord of the Rings” trilogy, which grossed $2.9 billion worldwide and remains one of cinema’s greatest fantasy achievements.
“I’m fascinated and I’m excited. I hope it’s good,” Wood recently told GQ magazine about the new films. “I’m surprised—I don’t know why I’m surprised because, of course there would be more movies.”
“Obviously at the core of that, is a desire to make a lot of money,” Wood continued. “It’s not that a bunch of executives are like, ‘Let’s make really awesome art.’ And, again, not begrudging anybody because, of course, it is commerce. But great art can come from commerce. So those two things are not mutually exclusive.

The director of the apocalyptic drama, Before the Fall, and 2017’s Rings, the sequel to the popular 2002 horror film, The Ring, is back with a first look at his new horror film. The Wait comes from F. Undoubtedly one of J. R. R. Tolkien’s most iconic creations, Gandalf is a beloved character in both the novels and live-action adaptation of The Lord of the Rings and The Hobbit. In one of the opening scenes of The Fellowship of the Ring, Gandalf appears in the Shire as Gandalf the Grey. From that point onwards, his character helps guide, instruct, and protect the hobbits in their task to destroy the One Ring. Peter Jackson’s Lord of the Rings trilogy and The Hobbit trilogy did their best to gradually reveal the identity of Gandalf as detailed in Tolkien’s books. However,

New “Lord of the Rings” movies are officially on the way from Warner Bros., and Andy Serkis is the first original cast member to say he’s ready to return to Middle-earth. Serkis gave an iconic motion capture performance as Gollum in Peter Jackson’s original trilogy and reprised the role in “The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey.”
“Look, [producers] Peter Jackson, Fran Walsh, Philippa Boyens are sort of a second family that I have become part of and have gone on to make so many films with,” Serkis told BroBible’s Post-Credit Podcast. “And — let me tell you — they are the best and most incredible people to work with. I think that there are so many other potential Middle-earth projects which could come about, and if they’re doing them, I would, of course, jump at the chance to have that relationship rekindled.”

When Amazon debuted its highly anticipated Most Expensive TV Series Ever Made — The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power last fall — the company had to contend with a bothersome rival from Warner Bros. Discovery: the Game of Thrones prequel House of the Dragon. Warners picked a debut date for its prestige TV drama 12 days before Amazon’s $1 billion gamble launched, ensuring nonstop media and fandom comparisons, many of which were less favorable to the family-friendly Rings. For Amazon, the head-to-head rivalry was all the more galling because Warners is a minority licensee stakeholder in Rings, so they’re ostensibly supposed to be on the same side. Team Rings’ public spin concerning the matchup went like this: None of this matters because these shows are totally different.
All of which made the Feb. 23 announcement by Warners almost Westeros-level brutal: Now the studio is going to make The Lord of the Rings content,...

It was an interesting turn of events when Warner Bros. and New Line Cinema, the studio that initially brought forth the live-adaptations of J.R.R. Tolkien’s Lord of the Rings series, directed by Peter Jackson, had announced plans to release new movies in the franchise after signing a deal with Embracer Group Ab’s Middle-earth Enterprises. The clincher was that Peter Jackson would, once again, be involved with these projects in some capacity.
Variety is now reporting the boss of Amazon Studios, Jennifer Salke, who is releasing the Lord of the Rings show, The Rings of Power, does not feel threatened by this announcement as they were shortly the sole source for new Lord of the Rings material. Salke recently spoke on the red carpet of the Creed III premiere about the newly announced projects. When Variety asked her if all these new Tolkien works would be too much for the market,...

Yesterday, it was revealed that Warner Bros. Discovery (and its New Line studio) and Embracer Group have hammered out a deal to make more “Lord of the Rings” films in the future. Obviously, it’s not really known exactly what those films will cover and who is going to work on them, specifically, but they’re happening. And you can’t talk about new “Lord of the Rings” films without talking about Peter Jackson, the director of two separate ‘Rings’ film trilogies.

A resurgence in hit genre television has resulted in a stacked TV stunt ensemble category at this year’s SAG Awards. Voters have previously favored work from the fantasy world of George R.R. Martin in this race, but Amazon’s “The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power” has scored a nomination for its hit inaugural season. If fantasy realms and medieval style combat is what appeals to voters in the stunt category, then this epic series ticks all the boxes by bringing the pages of J.R.R. Tolkien to life.
At this year’s ceremony, “The Rings of Power” stunt team is nominated alongside the ensembles from “Andor,” “The Boys,” “House of the Dragon,” and “Stranger Things.” This is the sole SAG nomination this year for each of these series.

Amazon beat Wall Street expectations in its fourth-quarter earnings report, delivering stronger results than anticipated amid what CEO Andy Jassy said remains an “uncertain economy.”
The company had revenues of 149.2 billion in the quarter, compared to the 145.4 billion expected by the street. Earnings per share were 1.39, and operating income was 2.7 billion, down from 3.5 billion a year earlier.
Still, the results were better than expected, given the economic headwinds facing the major tech companies. Amazon, in a similar move to other tech giants, laid off 18,000 employees last month.
And while advertising has remained a tough business for some other tech players, it is booming at Amazon. The company reported ad revenues of 11.6 billion in Q4, up 23 percent from a year earlier. While Amazon does sell ads on programming like Thursday Night Football, the bulk of its advertising revenue is related to its ecommerce business.
