Featured review
An unexpected and entertaining episode.
The episode began during a stagecoach robbery where two masked bandits are taking money from the strong box and passengers. When one of the bandits rips a brooch from the lapel of a blind woman, her older female companion slaps the bandit. In response, the bandit shoots the older woman killing the only eyes that the blind woman, Isabella, has in life.
Later in a nearby town, a visitor, Ethan, enters the local hotel to get a room. But inside the hotel just happens to be the two bandit that robbed the stage. And since Ethan is about the same height as one of the bandits, they come up with a plan where they will place evidence of the robbery on Ethan. And in no time, Ethan is locked-up and the passengers state that Ethan was one of the robbers. It looks like the town will be having a hanging in a short period of time.
During the trial we, the viewer, will learn that the best witness to the robbery may be the one that uses all their senses. It will all come to a head when Isabella in on the witness stand and produces a better view of the crime than the others with eyesight.
During the early part of the show it appeared that we were going to get one of those heart-string stories that focuses on the hardship of the helpless and lonely blind person trying to eke their way through life. But this was not the case in this excellent story. Anne Bancroft did an outstanding job of playing the blind woman that made the viewer feel empowered instead of compassion for her situation. This was an unexpected treat from the usual story-line of most similar plots. Excellent watch.
