There seems to be some positive development for the exhibition trade, as some filmmakers are venturing to release their films at the cinema halls. Last year, due to Corona, some of the best release slots were lost. Since then, neither filmmakers nor viewers have come forward to take in a movie at a cinema hall.
Not that any film released since lockdown in cinema halls was withdrawn -- albeit with restrictions -- had what is called face value or promotion. The few films that managed to release were not worth one's while even during normal situation, least of all in Corona time.
Since the cinemas reopened in September last year, films like "Khali Peeli", "Bolo Hau", "Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari", "Ramprasad Ki Tehrvi", "12 'O' Clock", "Madam Chief Minister", "Kaagaz", "Indoo Ki Jawani", "Amma Ki Boli" and a few other such films released in cinema halls. They had...

Filmmaker Abhishek Sharma says though releasing films on Ott has become a convenient option for many, the relevance of theatrical release of a film has increased because filmmakers now have to adhere to the gold standard to draw people to theatres.
"The relevance of theatrical release of a film has increased because now we have to match the gold standard for each film that we will plan to release in theatres. Due to the global pandemic, and with the way our lifestyle has changed, going to the theatre for watching a movie is not a 'timepass' anymore. People are putting a high value in stepping out to get entertained. At least, for the next year or two, things will go on like this," Sharma told Ians.
He added: "The films we will get to see in theatres from now on will not only be about big stars but also about...

Mumbai, Dec 4 (Ians) New-age composer duo Javed-Mohsin went retro with song recording technique to bring alive the peppy dance track Teri bhabhi in the forthcoming film Coolie No. 1.
"We have used a lot of live instruments, rhythm percussion and chorus to make the song larger than life, for which we went to Chennai," the composers told Ians, adding that they completed recording of the song in 25 days.
The impact has been satisfactory. Filmmaker David Dhawan was impressed, and so is the audience, going by online views.
The song garnered close to six million views within a few hours of release and it is currently trending on YouTube. Interestingly, this is the only original song composed for the film.
"When David (Dhawan) sir briefed us, he wanted a typical ‘massy' and a very catchy number. When we made him hear the song, he was blown away and asked us to record it right away,...

Ever since cinemas reopened in parts of India as part of the unlock process, a few new releases -- including Hollywood films -- have hit the big screen. Trade experts say regular Hollywood popcorn flicks will not help bring the crowds back to theatres, nor will small Bollywood releases. A star-studded pan-India film would do the trick, with good marketing.
The Diwali weekend saw the release of "Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari", starring Manoj Bajpayee, Diljit Dosanjh and Fatima Sana Shaikh. the film was the first new Bollywood release following the opening of cinemas after the Covid-19 lockdown. Although the film received a lot of support from the film fraternity, it could not excite the audience much.
According to a trade source, the comedy film could not even rake in a crore at the box office since its release on November 15.

Directed by Abhishek Sharma, the comedy stars Diljit Dosanjh, Manoj Bajpayee and Fatima Sana Sheikh in lead roles.
"It's a film we made to put a smile on people's faces and right now, no one needs these smiles as much as those who've worked through the ordeal of the pandemic every day when we have been comfortably locked in our home," said the director.
"We can't ever repay what they've done for us but the least we can do is to get smiles on their faces, so we invited men from the police force and their families to watch the film today," he added.

Mumbai, Oct 27 (Ians) The composer duo of Javed-Mohsin have composed popular songs like Ding dang in Munna Michael and Pal in Jalebi. They are now back with the album of the upcoming comedy, Suraj Pe Mangal Bhari.
"Composing the entire album was interesting and challenging. It was a huge opportunity for us, as these days composers don't get the chance to compose the entire album because of the multi-composer trend. So, when we got the chance to compose and design the entire album, we jumped at the opportunity because it gave us a chance to explore different genres," said Mohsin.
The film is a satirical comedy drama set in the nineties, and narrates the story of a wedding planner at a time the mobile phone and the internet did not exist. Creating retro songs for the current upbeat market was a challenge, said Mohin.

Can’t Stop, Won’t Stop: Neeson Goes Nowhere in Another Derivative Offering
Every generation tends to spawn a golden year action star from an aging flock of matinee idols. Surely, Charles Bronson took Death Wish to his grave and Bruce Willis likewise drove Die Hard to its last breath before marinating in a continual onslaught of subpar action flicks. And then, there’s the special case of Liam Neeson, whose 2008 title Taken re-launched the Hollywood alum as a bona fide action star, spinning not only a franchise but a litany of similar titles cashing in on his newfangled popularity, from Non-Stop to Run All Night to The Commuter and what was supposedly his last entry in this vein, 2019’s Cold Pursuit (a remake of Norway’s In Order of Disappearance).…...
