Continuations of once-hot series are tricky to pull off, but they have a better track record than reboots.
Frasier’s return on Paramount+ had plenty of skeptics due to Kelsey Grammer being the only original star returning as a series regular.
Plenty of cameos were peppered throughout, but the series had a different energy than its predecessor.
Maybe it’s because Frasier was starting a new life in Boston and coming into contact with his son for the first time in years.
It was a late-in-life switch-up for the wise-cracking man who called Seattle his home for many years.
Now that the dust has settled on the revival, it’s time to delve into whether the show performed well enough to secure a pickup for a second season.
Has Frasier been renewed for Season 2?
Paramount+ announced today that Frasier Season 2 is in the works.

Sarah Michelle Gellar’s long-awaited return to the small screen has been cut short.
Paramount+ has officially canceled Wolf Pack ten months after its freshman finale.
The series kicked off in January 2023 and picked up with a deadly fire ravaging California.
It triggered a series of supernatural events, and a group of teenagers came together under strange circumstances.
Gellar, best known for her work on Buffy the Vampire Slayer, played an arson investigator named Kristin Ramsey.
Despite spending much of the freshman season against the group of werewolves at the show’s core, the now-series finale found fans being let in on a big secret:
Kristin was also a werewolf.
Wolf Pack season 2 promised to be very different
The first season of Wolf Pack set the stage for a much bigger second season that will sadly never see the light of day now.

Paramount has decided to not move forward with a second season of “Wolf Pack,” Variety has confirmed.
Based on Edo Van Belkom’s book series and created by Jeff Davis, the show follows two teens whose lives are changed when a California wildfire awakens a supernatural creature. Season 1 aired in Jan 2023 alongside the “Teen Wolf” movie. Sarah Michelle Gellar, Rodrigo Santoro, Armani Jackson, Bella Shepard, Chloe Rose Robertson and Tyler Lawrence Gray starred.
Sources say Paramount hoped the audience behind the series would have grown from Season 1 to Season 2, but due to the dual Hollywood strikes, the likelihood of that happening was cut short since production was stopped. Season 2 would’ve arrived roughly two years after Season 1 debuted.
The series serves as the latest Paramount+ original to be canceled following “Joe Pickett,” which ended after two seasons in October 2023. Along with the rest of last year’s cancellations including “iCarly,...

Even before the WGA and SAG-AFTRA strikes of the summer, 2023 marked a pivotal time in TV.
Studios and streamers spent the year compiling a lengthy list of small screen staples ending in 2023 and 2024; the announcements came amidst a string of mergers, strategy pivots, and a smattering of natural narrative conclusions that for good or bad were impacted by the industry-wide work stoppages.
From awards darlings like “The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel” and “The Handmaid’s Tale” (renewed for a sixth and final season expected next year) to tried-and-true audience favorites like “Archer,” “The Blacklist,” and “Riverdale,” many of the TV shows that got the chop this year were considered buzzy cultural touchstones at one time or another.
Emmy winners “Barry” and “Succession” famously both came to an end on May 28 in a doubled-header spring TV finale that closed the curtain on a memorable phase in HBO’s post-“Game of Thrones” recovery.

Leighton Meester and Robbie Amell play exes with a vendetta in the upcoming Amazon Freevee rom-com “EXmas,” except unlike other former flames, ex-fiancés Ali (Meester) and Graham (Amell) are dealing with their tensions under the same roof.
In an exclusive clip shared with TheWrap, Ali and Graham weather the cold while fishing in a lodge with Graham’s father and brother when Graham’s dad asks the pair if they have been dating since breaking up.
“Everyone,” Graham replies, adding that he’s “not discriminating against any dating app” and is “going head-first.”
“Wow, that’s disgusting,” Ali responds in the clip.
As the group shivers in the freezing temperatures, Ali asks the family to move the heater closer to her, to which Graham responds “no, you don’t have to do that — it’s fine where it is.”
“It’s getting everybody I think,” Graham insists.

Paramount+ is breaking up with two recent additions to its roster by canceling the Kiefer Sutherland spy drama Rabbit Hole and Fatal Attraction, starring Joshua Jackson and Lizzy Caplan. Paramount+ is in slash-and-burn mode, with the company removing titles as a cost-cutting measure.
“We want to thank both series’ entire creative teams, crews and the fantastic casts for their dedication to bringing these series to life,” said the Paramount+ spokesperson. “Both Fatal Attraction and Rabbit Hole will continue to be available on Paramount+ for audiences to discover.”
Rabbit Hole and Fatal Attraction join Paramount‘s other canceled series, including Real World: Homecoming, The Twilight Zone, Interrogation, Coyote, No Activity, Guilty Party, and The Harper House. More cancelations hit the streaming service in June, with Star Trek: Prodigy, Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies, Queen of the Universe, and The Game going the way of the dodo. Paramount will be shutting down Showtime Sports by the end of the year. The news comes in the wake of Showtime’s merger with Paramount+.
“It is with profound disappointment that I shared this morning’s news that the company has decided to shut down Showtime Sports at the end of this year,” president of Showtime Sports Stephen Espinoza wrote in a memo to staff on Tuesday that was obtained by TheWrap.
Espinoza emphasized that Paramount’s decision to cut the division is not “a reflection of the work we have done in recent years, nor of our long and proud history.”
“Unfortunately, in a rapidly evolving media marketplace, the company has had to make difficult choices allocating resources, resetting priorities and reshaping its content offering,” Espinoza continued. The former head went on to say that the shuttering was “entirely out of our control.”

Exclusive: Following the conclusion of the WGA strike, which has sent writers scrambling to either dive back into work or look for new opportunities, Roadmap Writers has reopened its free Support Staff Initiative, which helps get scripts from emerging talents in front of execs and literary reps.
The idea, per the initiative’s co-founder Joey Tuccio, is to allow up-and-comers working in television to focus on “their job and/or job hunt,” while Roadmap works to help elevate their careers, hopefully making the transition out of a historic work stoppage just a little bit easier.
Writers looking to apply for the program needn’t currently be working within a writers’ room — all that’s required to be eligible is experience working in a support staff role within the past 18 months. When Paramount+ canceled Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies after a single season last month, it seemed like new fans would never get a chance to watch the show.
At the time of the cancellation, it was revealed all episodes of the Grease prequel would be purged from Paramount+, a move that's becoming all too familiar to fans of canceled streaming series.
After fans and creatives hit out at the controversial decision, it seems the first -- and only -- season will continue to be found thanks to a digital release.
The series is now available to buy on the iTunes store and Amazon, and that's not all:
A DVD release has been confirmed for November 7, meaning you can own a physical copy of the show.
We're also getting over 30 minutes of special features as part of the DVD release, taking us further into the Grease-verse than before.

Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies has been saved. The Grease prequel series was canceled by Paramount+ after one season in June 2023. Less than one month after its finale debuted, the entire series was deleted from Paramount+, unable to be seen in full anywhere. Following weeks of fan outcry, two 2023 Emmy nominations, and a petition for the series to be saved, Paramount has announced that Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies is now available for digital purchase and it will soon be available on DVD. Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies “tells the origin story of the infamous 50s girl gang,” the synopsis reads. “It’s 1954, four years before the original Grease, and the moral panic over juvenile delinquency, sex, drugs, and rock n’ roll in Rydell is reaching a fever pitch and the adults are desperate to get control. Enter four outcast teenage girls who band together to become rebels with a cause.

That’s the odd reality the 75th Emmy Awards finds itself in during a time when streamers removing their own original content has become the norm.
Both of the nominations for “Rise of the Pink Ladies” were for Outstanding Choreography for Scripted Programming, a category that honored choreographer Jamal Sims for the routines used in the songs “New Cool,” “Hand Jive” and “The Boom” as well as choreographers Jeffrey Mortensen and Louise Hradsky for the routines featured in “Pulling Strings,” “Hit Me Again” and “High Rollin.'” Yet at present the average person cannot watch any of these awards-nominated performances.

The streaming era has ushered in an uncomfortable first: Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies has been nominated for two Emmy Awards, but as of the time of publishing, it can’t be watched anywhere. The Grease prequel series debuted on Paramount+ on April 6, airing weekly installments through June 1. Although it had been slowly building a cult following throughout its first season, the musical series was canceled on June 23, along with The Game, Star Trek: Prodigy, and Queen of the Universe. In addition, Paramount+ announced that all four shows would be removed from the streaming service, and they were, indeed, taken off it within a matter of days. The 2023 Emmy nominees were announced on Wednesday, July 12, about two weeks after Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies was scrubbed from existence (it exists now only in YouTube and TikTok videos and on music streaming services). It received two nominations in the...

The 2023 Emmy nominations are here. The slate of nominees include "Succession" (which aired its final season this spring), "Ted Lasso" (which also just wrapped up its last season), "Yellowjackets," and many more. And while there are some long-deserved Emmy nominations we're very excited about, there are also a lot of nominations that didn't happen, leaving viewers and fans surprised at these major misses. Ahead, these are the biggest snubs of the 2023 Emmy nominations.
Emmys Snub: The Cast of "House of the Dragon"
"House of the Dragon," the "Game of Thrones" prequel series that won fans' hearts last fall, was nominated for nine awards. None of them were for acting, despite a very strong ensemble. Most egregious in our eyes is the exclusion of Emma D'Arcy's leading performance as Rhaenyra Targaryen. D'Arcy's portrayal of the heir in an impossible position is full of nuance, pain, and tenderness. And if...

Oscar-winning costume designer Colleen Atwood, prosthetic makeup artist Barrie Gower, and composers Hans Zimmer, Nicholas Britell and Danny Elfman were among the industry heavyweights who landed Creative Arts Emmy nominations on Wednesday morning.
Four-time Oscar winner Atwood landed her second Emmy nomination in the outstanding contemporary costumes for Tim Burton’s “Wednesday.” Speaking about her work on the show and about recreating the icon Morticia Addams’ costumes, Atwood said, “We reinvented look with this silver fabric on the side, which was bonded to the black, twisted and sewn over. The dress had a more contemporary shape to it. I think we honored the previous versions of Morticia that had come before.
Britell, who won an Emmy in 2019 for outstanding original main title theme music for “Succession” landed three nominations. The composer was recognized for his main title music and original dramatic score work on Disney+’s “Andor.” He also landed a nomination for “Succession.

You’ve got to feel sorry for the fine folks at the San Diego Comic-Con. The Covid-19 pandemic shut the popular convention down in 2020, and it was forced into holding a much smaller convention – the “Comic-Con Special Edition” – in November 2021 after being unable to host its normal summertime pop culture event safely. Sdcc returned in 2022, but with strict Covid protocols in place.
2023 was thought to be the year the San Diego Comic-Con would spring back to life. But that wasn’t in the cards. The Writers Guild of America (WGA) went on strike, which meant many panel participants wouldn’t be able to attend. And then complicating matters, the Screen Actors Guild voted to authorize a strike if they couldn’t come to an agreement with the Alliance of Motion...

There are likely more content cuts ahead for Paramount+ in the United States. Paramount Global began removing shows from the platform in the last week of June, but the total volume of removals still lags behind other legacy media companies like Disney and Warner Bros. Discovery, who kept their content cuts coming for weeks.
Paramount may have more titles to remove from Paramount+ domestically, but internationally the picture is far rosier. According to an exclusive Variety report, the company’s announcement in 2022 that it would launch 150 original shows and movies created outside the U.S. is paying off handsomely.

While Paramount is still trying to figure out how to hit peak losses and start climbing to profitability with its streaming services, its most encouraging signs of streaming growth are coming from outside the U.

It’s no longer just David Zaslav, CFO Gunnar Wiedenfels, and a room full of ruthless Warner Bros. Discovery accountants swinging their Excel sheets like guillotines. Stream your bucket-list series and movies (note: 2008’s “The Bucket List” is only available on PVOD) while you still can — content removal is the new power move.
Last month, Paramount+ scrubbed shows “Inside Amy Schumer,” “From Cradle to Stage,” “Tell Me a Story,” “Ghislaine: Partner in Crime,” movies “Fantasy Football” and “Snow Day,” and a crop of Nickelodeon series from its archives, a source confirmed to IndieWire. The library purge followed the cancellation of “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies,” “Star Trek: Prodigy,” “The Game” and “Queen of the Universe,” all of which were also removed from the service.

Following the lead of Max, Disney+ and Hulu, Paramount+ has announced it would cut a raft of shows and movies. Perhaps the most surprising of these was “Grease: Rise of the Pink Ladies,” which just had its finale on June 1. Within weeks of the season’s end, Paramount announced that the show was not only canceled but would be removed from Paramount+ entirely.
The musical comedy, a prequel to the original “Grease” movie, premiered on April 6 and struggled to take off until its final weeks when it reached its highest levels of demand, according to Parrot Analytics‘ data, which takes into account consumer research, streaming, downloads and social media, among other engagement. It peaked at 20 times the average series demand the day after its finale. Unfortunately for fans of the show, it won’t get a longer runway to make further inroads with audiences.

“Vice” has come full circle. The plucky media disrupter that challenged giants in the news industry in its heyday has fallen from grace, and is now so far removed from its glory days that it it has been pulled from Paramount+ with Showtime.
