Since Mr Bates aired in January, James Strong said he has been contacted by “loads and loads of people asking for help, from small stories to [scandals about] corporate structures.”
“I think it’s about setting up a mechanism so that all these issues can be represented,” he told the Creative Cities Convention. “[People affected] can go to a broadcaster and say, ‘We’ve got this idea, can we make a drama?’.”
The BAFTA nominee, whose past credits include Vigil and Doctor Who, said Mr Bates “shouldn’t be a unicorn” and urged British broadcasters to support “factual stories.”

Things are looking up for Detective Chief Inspector Amy Silva and her Scottish police (and romantic) partner Kirsten Longacre in Vigil Season 2, premiering February 15 on Peacock. Instead of trying to solve a murder among the sailors within the confines of a nuclear submarine, as they did in the first season of the hit U.K. thriller, the two women, played by Gentleman Jack’s Suranne Jones and Game of Thrones’ Rose Leslie, are now investigating a case within the Royal Air Force—on land. In the six-episode season, a prototype combat drone has been compromised, killing several soldiers during a demonstration. The investigation takes Silva to the Persian Gulf, where a wider conspiracy is discovered. The series filmed in Scotland and Morocco, and according to executive producer Jake Lushington, while people may initially miss the submarine, “hopefully it won’t take long before our action-packed opening throws them headlong into this different mystery and territory.

Season 2 of Vigil recounted the events of the infamous Dundair massacre, where one of the pilots went rogue, killed seven soldiers on British soil, and heavily wounded many Wudyani officials who had arrived in Scotland to oversee the capabilities of the R-Pas drones, which their country was to adopt soon. An alleged extremist group called Jabhat Al Huriya was blamed for stealing one of the consoles and using it to kill British soldiers. On Bilali’s suggestions, Scotland’s police sent their best, Dci Silva, who figured that the disaster was part of a bigger conspiracy and Jabhat Al Huriya might not have any part to play in this.

Nigel Farage failed in his quest to win I’m a Celebrity… Get Me Out of Here! last night as he finished third in the final of the ITV juggernaut, which saw viewing decline dramatically from last year’s closer.
Farage equalled former Health Secretary Matt Hancock’s finish last year, as ITV’s penchant for throwing controversial politicians into the jungle continued into 2023.
But the show lost a whopping 4M viewers from last year’s finale, tumbling to just 6.5M with a share of 42%, peaking with 7.5M. The show failed to even top the daily charts behind the BBC’s Strictly Come Dancing results show. In 2022, 10.4M (54.2%) watched the final when footballer Jill Scott took home the crown. That ep peaked with 11.5M during a top-rated season. The launch of 2022 was also well up on 2023, by around 2M, although Gb News producer Ben Leo accidentally tweeted otherwise three weeks ago.

Exclusive: Fox Entertainment has struck a first-of-its-kind drama development deal with a trio of production companies, Walter Iuzzolino’s Eagle Eye, The Serial Killer’s Wife producer Clapperboard and Newen Studios label Aux Singuliers.
Fox Scripted Programming President Michael Thorn said the U.S. network and UK producers will “identify and implement entirely new production models,” while similar discussions are taking place with producers and studios in Europe, Australia and Canada.
With Clapperboard and Aux Singuliers, Fox is working on Dead Space [working title] from Young Wallander scribe Ben Harris.
Grounded in the reality of the current space race, the series attempts to redefine the traditional police procedural as it explores the complex moral, political and real legal machinations after a murder is committed aboard the International Space Station. It follows in the footsteps of the BBC’s Vigil, which took a similar approach to a murder mystery on a Navy submarine.

Scottish thriller Guilt is back for the third and final chapter in the McCall Brothers trilogy. Neil Forsyth’s fiendishly plotted drama all began when Max and Jake – a ruthless lawyer who’d climbed his way out of his working class Leith upbringing to wealth and status, and his vinyl-loving record shop slacker sibling – were flung together when they tried to cover up an accidental hit-and-run. So began a complex and gripping story about money laundering, Edinburgh gangsters, betrayal, class, family and yes, guilt.
Series three finds Max and Jake forced back to Edinburgh where some old enemies await. They’re joined by Pi-turned legal advisor Kenny Burns, his police detective girlfriend Yvonne, criminal kingpin Maggie Lynch, dangerously unpredictable ex-con Teddy and more familiar faces from the first two series. Last September, The Mars Volta shared their self-titled album — their first LP in a decade — and they’re keeping the momentum going with the announcement of Qué Dios Te Maldiga Mí Corazón, a track-by-track acoustic version. As a preview ahead of its April 21st release, the band has shared the acoustic version of “Blank Condolences.”
Billed as The Mars Volta’s version of a “folk record,” Qué Dios Te Maldiga Mí Corazón aims to be less of a “stripped-down” record and more of a way to pay homage to the band’s traditional Latin influences. As much as their typical prog-metal rips, these versions of the tracks put vocalist Bixler-Zavala’s powerful, often political messages at the forefront of their music.
“I realized I could finally make a record like this now, I just had to make it happen,” the band’s Omar Rodríguez-López explains in a press release. “That was the experiment.

Exclusive: The BBC appears unmoved by the online clamor to cancel Jk Rowling over her views on transgender rights.
The British broadcaster is preparing to renew Strike for a sixth season after apologizing twice to the author last month because guests on news shows accused her of being transphobic. A deal is yet to be done, but Deadline understands that the BBC is enthusiastic about another season.
Strike is based on novels by Rowling’s pseudonym Robert Galbraith and chronicles cases investigated by Cormoran Strike (Tom Burke), a war veteran turned private detective, and his business partner Robin Ellacott (Holliday Grainger).
Season six will adapt The Ink Black Heart, which has echoes of Rowling’s own experience. It centers on the murder of a successful YouTube animator after she becomes the target of relentless online hate. At one point, Edie Ledwell is accused of being transphobic.

Jewish horror certainly isn’t new. ‘The Dybbuk,’ a play by S. Ansky about the Jewish folkloric demon, was first performed in 1920. Since, there have been many stories of the mythological nightmare, from stage to screen and otherwise. The dybbuk is named for the word “to cleave” or “to cling,” referencing the demon’s way of latching onto a living body. It’s a soul of a dead person that takes up a living host, possessing them until it is able to accomplish its goal.
Unlike Christian demons we’re used to seeing in films, dybbuks aren’t cohorts of the devil, but souls of the dead who are unable or unwilling to move on due to unfinished business. Movies like The Unborn (2009), The Possession (2012), and Ezra (2017) used the dybbuk, but each fell into a common trap. We won’t spend time tackling the 2003 created “dybbuk box,” but suffice it...

It’s a weird day to interview Oona Chaplin. The most anticipated film of the year, James Cameron’s Avatar sequel The Way of Water, has just been released, and Chaplin is set to take on a key role in the already filmed third instalment. We’re not talking about that, though. We’re chatting about her new Netflix spy thriller series Treason, which she stars in alongside Daredevil’s Charlie Cox and former Bond girl Olga Kurylenko. It’s the kind of bingeable crime caper that has become synonymous with the BBC over the years. However, this Boxing Day, as people roll out of bed heavy with yesterday’s indulgences, many will flick through Netflix, not the terrestrial channels, and land on Treason, where they will spend the next four hours.

It’s the most wonderful tiiiiime of the yeeeeear! Wherever you fall on a festive scale of Scrooge to Elf, it’s certainly the best time of year for good telly: Christmas TV is every channel and streaming service’s time to shine, as they adorn their listings with sparkly specials and festive films. 2022 is no different, with everything from Christmas comedy offerings from Inside No. 9, to Ghosts and Detectorists, a new animated family film from the team behind The Gruffalo, and brand-new soppy festive rom-coms.
There’s also a growing selection box of Christmas dramas – including the last ever episode of Doc Martin – which is just as well considering this will be the first holiday season without a special Doctor Who episode since the show relaunched back in 2005.
We’ll keep this list updated with announcements and release dates as the Christmas TV schedules are confirmed, but for...

It's a good time to be named Charlie Cox. Netflix's — and now Marvel's — "Daredevil" star is set to lead the next phase of the Marvel Cinematic Universe as the blind lawyer with excessive Catholic guilt in "Daredevil: Born Again." With that renewed social currency, Cox is finding a wealth of other stories to tell. Among them is Netflix's upcoming limited series, "Treason," which the United Kingdoms and Ireland branch of the streaming juggernaut's Twitter account revealed the show's release date.
The announcement came bundled with a collection of first-look images showcasing Cox and some of his fellow cast members (more on them later) all looking very serious in suits and bulletproof vests. Considering "Treason" is set to be a spy thriller piece in the same vein as "James Bond" and "The Bourne Identity," the attire seems appropriate.
