Fox Entertainment said it acquired MarVista Entertainment, a studio that specializes in, among other things, production for digital platforms. The acquisition is part of a bid to expand the company’s content portfolio as it places more emphasis on Tubi, the ad-supported streaming outlet that parent Fox Corporation bought for $440 million in 2020.
MarVista, founded in 2003, creates an average of 80 titles across different genres and has a content catalog of more than 2,500 hours of programming. It has also developed an expertise in creating holiday-themed content. The company will be led by Fernando Szew, its CEO and founding partner.
“Fernando and his team have built a globally respected studio with a track record of prolific creative output, a vast library of owned titles and an efficient approach to production that’s admired industry-wide,” said Charlie Collier, CEO of Fox Entertainment, in a statement. “With these key strategic advantages, acquiring and investing in...

Disney Channel’s original 1997 version of Under Wraps had many of the elements family comedies need: three cute and precocious leads, a fun-loving mummy and plenty of funny moments. There was just one thing missing — diversity.
All of the movie’s leading characters were white. But the revamped Under Wraps, which premieres tonight at 8/7c on the Disney Channel, shakes all of that up with an inclusive cast that incorporates more people of color. Two roles that were initially played by men are now filled by women, and one lead has same-sex parents.

Although Karin Konoval has co-starred in family fare such as Netflix’s The Baby-Sitter’s Club and a live-action take on Woody Woodpecker, she’s a more recognizable actress among adults than kids.
That could change when Konoval plays a dastardly and criminally inclined art collector named Ingrid Ravensworth in the new Disney Channel movie Under Wraps. A remake of the beloved 1997 mummy-buddy movie of the same name, it premieres Friday at 8/7c. (Check out the exclusive clip above.)

Mummies may be par for the course on Halloween, but when the Disney Channel gets involved, the undead creatures take on a life of their own. Just on time for the holiday comes “Under Wraps,” a movie about a 4000-year-old mummy named Harold (Phil Wright) who is brought back to life by three friends.
Since Harold speaks only through a series of grunts, Wright’s expertise as a dancer and choreographer were key as he uses physicality to help define the character. Writer and director Alex Zamm provided Wright with a personal reference when describing how he envisioned the role, recounting when his son was “a constipated toddler who would walk in this way, lumbering forward, teetering always off balance.”
Beyond Zamm’s son, physical comedians like Harpo Marx and Lucille Ball became touchstones of Harold’s development.

The Disney Channel is remaking its first original movie—the comedic classic 1997 Halloween movie, Under Wraps.
The film stars Christian J. Simon (Gilbert), Sophia Hammons (Amy), and Malachi Barton (Marshall), as three 12-year-old friends who accidentally awaken a mummy. They affectionately name him Harold and must rush to return him to his resting place before midnight on Halloween.
The trio narrowly escapes a group of criminals intent on selling the mummy to the highest bidder. When Harold is inevitably captured, Marshall, Gilbert, and Amy must band together to stand up to the criminals, face their fears, and rescue their new—but “ancient”—friend.
Also starring in the film is Phil Wright as Harold, the mummy. Alex Zamm directed and wrote Under Wraps.
The film was just as fun as the original but added many modern and hilarious twists. It will be a new Halloween favorite.
TV Fanatic interviewed Christian J.
