Actor Kate Winslet has played a variety of roles ranging from movies like Titanic to Little Children. But Triple 9 saw Winslet playing one of the worst characters she’s ever played.
Kate Winslet had trouble finding anything redeemable about her ‘Triple 9’ character Kate Winslet | Stefano Rellandini/Getty Images
Triple 9 was very different from the usual roles audiences were accustomed to seeing Winslet in. The film saw her playing a ruthless Russian mafia boss. The fact that the character was such a huge departure from Winslet’s usual characters was what first attracted her to the feature.
But Winslet admitted that the Russian mafia boss was one of the few film roles she had difficulty connecting to. Especially thanks to the character’s wardrobe, which couldn’t have been any more unflattering for the Oscar-winner.

In the game of showbiz, sometimes, even if the biz is breaking down, the show must go on. TIFF will not be the only event weathering this challenge should the strike continue this festival season.
Regardless of the unrest in Hollywood, the Toronto International Film Festival has just released the list of movies set to screen this year. According to IndieWire, the lineup of films includes many that have yet to premiere in any capacity, making TIFF the first time it will be available to audiences. All film festivals face a challenged season ahead as most onscreen talent will be forced to sit this one out due to the SAG-AFTRA strike. Just last week, MGM and Luca Guadagnino yanked “Challengers” from the Venice opening night slot and shifted the movie entirely to April of next year.
But the Toronto International Film Festival forges ahead with a nevertheless starry lineup this year of 60 films across the Galas and Special Presentations sections, as announced Monday morning. The festival has not made an opening night selection but has so far also programmed Taika Waititi’s “Next Goal Wins” and Ladj Ly’s “Les Indésirables.”

In 1986, The Rolling Stones released the album Dirty Work. The title was fitting. Making the album was a dirty, painful process that left the band furious with one another. For Keith Richards, Mick Jagger was the primary problem. He was working to promote his debut solo album, She’s the Boss, and shirked his responsibility to the band. As a result, Richards wrote several songs about his stormy relationship with Jagger.
The Rolling Stones released an album at a low point in band relations
After over two decades of working together, Richards’ relationship with Jagger reached a breaking point. Jagger prioritized his solo album above Dirty Work, which the Stones’ guitarist found unforgivable.
“By the time we gathered in Paris to record Dirty Work in 1985, the atmosphere was bad,” Richards wrote in his memoir Life. “The sessions had been delayed because Mick was working on his solo album, and now he was busy promoting it.

‘The Mandalorian’ Star Giancarlo Esposito Might Return: ‘I Would Love to Keep Dying and Coming Back’
This story about Giancarlo Esposito and “The Mandalorian” first ran in the drama issue of TheWrap’s awards magazine.
Giancarlo Esposito knows villains.
The actor, whose career began in the early 1980’s, has always flitted between television and movie roles—he has appeared in movies by Jim Jarmusch, Wayne Wang, Spike Lee and Bong Joon-ho. And he has a particular specialty when it comes to playing characters with a, let’s say, loose moral compass.
Esposito is probably best known for his role as mannered drug kingpin Gustavo Fring on “Breaking Bad” and the prequel series “Better Call Saul.” He entered “Star Wars” lore in Season 1 of “The Mandalorian” as Moff Gideon, an Imperial zealot who returned in Season 3 to terrorize the titular hero (Pedro Pascal) and enact his evil plan, which involved creepy clones of himself. So his presumed death in the Mandalorian finale isn’t so certain. When clones are involved,...

The Writers’ Guild of Great Britain (Wggb) on Wednesday joined writers and other workers in the media and entertainment sectors around the world for “Screenwriters Everywhere,” a global day of solidarity with striking Hollywood writers. The goal of the protest organized in central London was to “stand in support of the 11,500 members of Writers Guild of America West and Writers Guild of America East” who have been on strike since May 2.
The Wggb trade union, representing writers for TV, film, theater, audio, books, poetry, comedy, animation and videogames, said its members would meet up at London’s Leicester Square from around 1 p.m. local time, with the meeting point being full of symbolism: a statue of William Shakespeare in the square. Watch Tina Turner Flip the Rock Script and Usher in the Seventies With ‘Proud Mary’ on ‘Ed Sullivan’
It was all happening for Tina and Ike Turner in 1970. They’d spent the Sixties building a steady head of steam in the U.S., and especially abroad, with hits like “So Fine,” and their rendition of Otis Redding’s “I’ve Been Loving You Too Long.” Their biggest smash wouldn’t come until 1971 — though Tina and Ike were already teasing it at the start of the new decade on The Ed Sullivan Show.

There was a stark contrast between Ringo Starr’s Beatles career and his post-Fab Four work. He drummed exclusively with The Beatles once he joined the band. The timekeeper worked with dozens of musicians when the group folded, never more so than when he started performing with his All-Starr Band. Ringo said he’d call on one particular drummer he has something in common with if his frequent timekeeping partner ever leaves the All-Starr Band.

Still stuck in a detention facility in Canada, she has lost most of her allies, as well as her power and status in Gilead. But it’s after she learns that her husband, Fred (Joseph Fiennes), has been murdered that her world truly comes crashing down, as she’s left to fend for herself and her unborn child, in a foreign country and with the lingering fear that her former handmaid June (Elisabeth Moss) — who, alongside a group of other erstwhile handmaids, is responsible for Fred’s murder — could come for her next. While the grieving, desperate widow summons June to the battlefield in an act of retaliation, her main goal going forward, Strahovski argues, is to keep her head above water.

Leading Chinese film director Chen Kaige is poised to shoot historical epic “Swan Song” as his next feature movie. It will focus on 18th century classical music composer Pyotr Tchaikovsky through critical failure, persecution for his sexuality and a mysterious death during the strife of the soon-to-collapse Russian Empire.
Moonstone Entertainment will launch pre-sales on the film at Cannes later this month. Production is scheduled to begin in late 2024 and early 2025 in the Baltics.
“Swan Song” was written by Shahar Stroh, who will also produce alongside Moonstone principal Etchie Stroh. Corporate credits go Moonstone Entertainment and Strohberry Films.
“The story of ‘Swan Song’ goes beyond the music of one man. Pedro Pascal has joined Ridley Scott’s upcoming “Gladiator” sequel, TheWrap has confirmed.
The previously announced cast already includes recent Oscar nominee Paul Mescal, Denzel Washington, Barry Keoghan and Connie Nielsen, who returns from the first movie. “Stranger Things” breakout Joseph Quinn is also in negotiations.
Not much is known about the sequel to Scott’s 2000 Oscar-winning blockbuster, although it’s thought to follow Maximus’ son (played by Mescal). The original film, of course, followed Maximus (Russell Crowe), a man whose family was taken from him and who went from slave to gladiator to revolutionary. What a movie.

After earning an Emmy nom — her first — for her guest turn in the fourth season of “The Handmaid’s Tale” in 2021, Mckenna Grace is now eligible again in Best Drama Guest Actress for the Hulu drama’s fifth installment. And if she’s shortlisted, she will continue one of the show’s longest-running streaks.
“Handmaid’s” has fielded at least one Best Drama Guest Actress nominee each time it was eligible in the category. Its streak began with Alexis Bledel, who was the show’s sole representative and prevailed for its debut season in 2017. The following year, it tripled its Season 1 total, producing nominations for Kelly Jenrette, Cherry Jones and the eventual champ, Samira Wiley, for its second season. Although the dystopian drama wasn’t eligible for a full season in 2019, it was allowed to enter the final three outings of Season 2 as orphaned episodes that year and thereby pocketed another...

Bad Bunny took Coachella’s main stage on Friday night, becoming the first Latin artist to headline the music festival.
From the moment the gates opened, the fervor for Bad Bunny was noticeable. His fans showed up in droves in the early hours of the day, and plenty of Bad Bunny merch was donned (there was even a fan walking around with a comically supersized Benito head).
When the Puerto Rican artist finally took shortly after 11:30 p.m. local time, it was evident that this was no ordinary performance for him. A pre-show film highlighted Coachella lineups over the years, and how multiple undercard acts have gone on to headline — Bad Bunny included. He then arrived stage elevated above the sea of fans and launched into Un Verano Sin Ti favorite “Tití Me Preguntó”
From then on out, Bad Bunny burned through hit after hit in a memorable evening of Latin trap and pop.

We are anxiously awaiting the new season of Big Brother in 2023 (which may or may not feature returning players). And we’re counting down the days until our days and nights are consumed by watching live feeds and angrily tweeting about the CBS reality show’s most recent dumb twist. But in the meantime, we want to ask for one thing from the Big Brother casting producers — please select super fans when finalizing season 25’s houseguests.

Since the premiere of Big Brother 25 is still a few months away in 2023, the casting team is hard at work finding the next group of houseguests.
There was an open casting call in Los Angeles in early March, which tells us that the upcoming season will feature new players, despite rumors that it will include former fan favorites.

Dave “Lil Dicky” Burd’s Dave is back with season 3. Naturally, many viewers are curious about the cast of the Fxx/Hulu series and where they might have seen the actors before. Find out what shows and movies Andrew Santino, Taylor Misiak, Christine Ko, Travis “Taco” Bennett, and GaTa have been in before, plus who the richest is out of the Dave cast.
Dave ‘Lil Dicky’ Burd and GaTa in season 3 of ‘Dave’ | Byron Cohen/FX Lil Dicky is the wealthiest ‘Dave’ cast member
According to Celebrity Net Worth, Lil Dicky is worth an estimated $8 million in 2023. The rapper hasn’t released new music in some time, which means he hasn’t gone on tour and earned money from that revenue stream. Instead, he has been focused on writing new music and his Fxx series.
Burd’s co-star Santino, who plays his manager in the comedy series, ranks second when it comes to net worth.

This post contains spoilers for "Shazam! Fury of the Gods."
"Shazam! Fury of the Gods" has finally hit theaters after a long wait. The first film came out in 2019, and with pandemic delays, it's been far too long since we saw our favorite kids in adult superhero bodies. This time around, Billy Batson (Asher Angel), aka Shazam (Zachary Levi), and the rest of the Shazamily are working heroes who also have to deal with school, their foster family, and the bad press they're getting, despite saving the world over and over again.
In the tradition of the first film, there's also a great DC cameo on display here. I hope it wasn't spoiled for you, but even if it was, that doesn't take away from how much fun it was, from the first fake-out to the final payoff.
I recently sat down with director David F. Sandberg and asked about that cameo.

This post contains minor spoilers for "Scream VI."
The "Scream" franchise has moved beyond its original director Wes Craven, who sadly passed away in 2015 (leaving the horror guru's final feature film as 2011's "Scream 4"). However, that doesn't mean the new stewards of the series, directors Matt Bettinelli-Olpin and Tyler Gillett (collectively known as Radio Silence), are looking to forget him.
Quite the contrary; in 2022's "Scream" there is a scene that features a party honoring one of the victims of Ghostface, Wes Hicks (Dylan Minnette). In slyly clever fashion, the party allows the film and filmmakers to stage a tribute to Craven on a meta referential level, with the banner "For Wes" doubling as a dedication to the departed director.
The latest installment, "Scream VI," heavily features the series' new cast of characters and moves the action to New York City, yet the references to Craven are far from finished.

HBO’s latest hit series The Last of Us now officially has a soundtrack for its first season, a massive, 66-song compilation of all the music scoring the post-apocalyptic tale. Check it out below.
After working on the original The Last of Us video game, composer Gustavo Santaolalla returns for the HBO series, joined by fellow artist David Fleming. In an upcoming interview with Consequence, Santaolalla describes his approach to the soundtrack, saying, “The process of adapting, it was more in a way like craftwork than actually a new creation, because the themes were there, those things are there, like the characters, it wasn’t about creating a new job, it wasn’t about finding what is interesting. For example, in seeing how Pascal and Bella, they’re different than the actors that played the voices, but at the same time, they keep the soul of the characters intact.”

Let’s face it — every year, we tell ourselves that we won’t watch a new season of Big Brother because of the eye-roll-inducing changes CBS makes to the show. And time after time, the network pulls us in, and we’re glued to the live feeds despite lame twists and infuriating casts. We have a problem, and we acknowledge that. After seven weeks of uninterrupted chart dominance, Sza was knocked down a peg on the Billboard 200 albums chart for the tracking week that ended February 2. Her “Sos” fell to number-two while the number-one position was taken over by K-pop band Tomorrow X Together, whose five-song collection “The Name Chapter: Temptation” becomes their first ever chart-topper. Read more about this week’s chart at Billboard.com.
“Temptation” reached the top spot with 161,500 equivalent album units, which are calculated by combining traditional album sales, individual track sales, and online streaming performance. Traditional sales were the lion’s share of units for the collection, and most of those came from CD sales. This is the third time the group has been in the top 10. They reached number-four with “Minisode 2: Thursday’s Child” in 2022, and “The Chaos Chapter: Freeze” hit number-five in 2021. So they’d been steadily inching their way up the chart with each successive release.
