Director Luca Guadagnino has a new box office record to celebrate this weekend, as his tennis-based romance "Challengers" is on track for an opening weekend north of $15 million -- the filmmaker's biggest debut ever. Admittedly that was quite a low bar to clear, since Guadagnino has built his career in smaller arthouse films with slow rollouts and/or limited releases. His previous biggest opening weekend was the 2022 cannibalism-based romance "Bones and All" ($2.2 million).
Still, "Challengers" has significantly outstripped box office projections, which had it pegged for an opening weekend between $7 million and $12 million. Deadline reports that star and producer Zendaya has been a major driving force behind the movie's performance, with 55% of PostTrak audiences polled saying that she was the main reason for seeing it. That's not too surprising; Zendaya shares the movie's central love triangle with Mike Faist and Josh O'Connor, but the marketing team was clearly aware that...

Abbott Elementary‘s third season continues this week on ABC, and ahead of the show’s return star Tyler James Williams weighed in on his character Gregory’s relationship with Janine (Quinta Brunson) in the fan-favorite comedy. During an appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show, Williams was asked about how he feels regarding Gregory and Janine’s will-they-won’t-they romance. “I hate to say it, and I know everybody’s always mad at me…. Gasps from the audience expressed their horror at such a thought as Janine and Gregory have become a pair worth rooting for over the past three seasons. When Jennifer Hudson pushed for more details, Williams added, “It’s partially an actor’s choice but also… I read a lot of scripts all the time. I watch a lot of TV, a lot of film.

As a featured guest on the talk show, Common was welcomed to the stage with an endearing freestyle from Hudson, as he gifted her a bouquet and an enthusiastic hug. The romantic tension between the two was obvious from the start of the show.
The conversation flowed between the two, and Hudson didn’t waste any time asking Common, whose real name is Lonnie Lynn, about his dating life.
“Now, we gotta get down to business, Mr. Common. I’m a host and so I have to ask you this question ’cause everybody always wanna know this — are you dating anyone?” she asked eagerly.
Common responded, “I’m in a relationship that is with one of the most beautiful people I ever met in life…she’s smart, she loves God,...

Today on The View, Sara Haines got down to business with a guest and asked him what could be considered a very uncomfortable question.
The rapper Common was a guest on the show promoting his new book, And Then We Rise: A Guide to Loving and Taking Care of Self. During the segment, Sara Haines mentioned his appearance on The Jennifer Hudson Show.
Common listed some specific qualities that his partner had on Jennifer’s show, which got Sara curious as to whether one of the ladies on The View fit that bill.
Sara started reciting these qualities: “She’s one of the most beautiful people…talented…have her talk show…Egot winner…”
Only one lady on the panel fits that bill, and that would be Whoopi Goldberg. She has been looking great lately and has even lost weight.
In front of a stunned Whoopi, Sara asked a most direct...

Channing Dungey first joined Warner Bros. TV Group as chairman in late 2020 — right in the middle of the Covid-19 pandemic, which made for an interesting first year on the job. Then came the Warner Media-Discovery merger in 2022, and the restructuring that came with it. In 2023, the Hollywood strikes disrupted the business again.
“It’s been a lot of tumult since I’ve been in the role,” Dungey recently reflected to Variety. “I’m hoping — and I’m knocking wood as I say this — that as we round the corner into 2024, we’re behind some of those bigger challenges. I’m sure there will be something new on the horizon, but I’m hopeful that 2024 marks a return to business as usual.”
The entertainment industry remains in flux, of course, with more disruption anticipated this year. But in her own corner of the biz, Dungey said she feels some truly positive momentum.
