The show was originally developed by Fox and was titled "Don't Trust the Bitch in Apartment 23." Fox passed and ABC filmed a pilot with the title "Apartment 23." It was chosen as one of the "Most Exciting New Series" at the Critics' Choice Television Awards. The series title was then changed to a bowdlerized version of its original name.

While critics loved the show, it sagged in the ratings. This led to its eventual cancellation. Several petitions were created to try and save the show or revive it from cancellation, though none were successful.
