Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End has been an unexpected anime in many ways. When the series first premiered, it took the world by storm. It quickly became a fan favorite, rising the ranks like no other anime did. On the one hand, Kagurabachi started rising in the world of manga, while Frieren: Beyond Journey’s End did the same in the world of anime.

The release of the first season of Solo Leveling anime in January became a high point for the anime industry as the series brilliantly portrayed the adventures and struggles of Sung Jinwoo as an E-Rank Hunter. While A-1 Pictures did a great job adapting the manga, a lot of the credit goes to the voice actors of the characters from the series, especially Aleks Le.

Aleks Le voiced Sung Jinwoo in the English dub version of the Solo Leveling anime. While the voice actor did justice to the role of the protagonist of the series, he still had to bear a lot of threats and ultimatums from the hardcore fans of the series. Before the release of the final episode, Le revealed that fans threatened him regarding the ‘Arise’ scene.

The announcement of Solo Leveling season 1 was a viral news piece. Fans waited almost a year for the anime to arrive. Since Studio A1 Pictures, whose previous productions include Fairy Tail, Sword Art Online, and Mashle, had taken over the series, the hype doubled in size pretty soon.
Alas, season 1 of Solo Leveling received mixed reviews from its audience. While it had some plus points, like the mind-blowing fight scenes, it also suffered from pacing issues and changes from the source material.
So when anime’s producer, Sota Furuhashi, hinted at an attempt to rectify the mistakes of the past, you bet fans saw it as a complete win.

This was revealed during an interview on Aniplex’s After Hours program, where Furuhashi provided insights into the unique localization efforts undertaken for Solo Leveling. This interview was hosted by voice actress Sally Amaki.
According to Furuhashi, the localization process involved the adoption of Japanese names for characters and settings within the anime’s domestic release, while adhering to the original Korean names for global audiences.
This also included recording certain scenes twice, with voice actors delivering lines using both Korean and Japanese names.
“We did place a lot of emphasis on how things would be localized for this title, using Japanese names in Japan, and using Korean names from the original work in the rest of the world. We actually did the voice recordings in some cases twice,...

Recent reports that have come out pointed out that Solo Leveling Blu-ray volume 2 has bombed miserable in Japan despite its overseas popularity. One week after the release of the Blu-Ray, it has failed to appear on any sales rankings in Japan, falling significantly below expectations.
Solo Levling Blu-Ray volume 2 sold fewer copies than the lowest-ranked titles for that week, which included Mashle: Magic And Muscles season 2 Vol. 2 on Blu-ray, which sold 629 copies, and Ao no Exorcist season 3 on DVD, which sold 164 copies.
Solo Leveling Blu-ray vol. 1 had also failed to make it to any sales charts.
While Blu-ray/DVD sales are not the sole indicator of success, they remain a significant measure of a show’s popularity in Japan, reflecting the number of fans willing to invest in merchandise. Despite the anime enjoying immense international popularity and confirming a sequel, its reception in Japan seems to have fallen short of expectations.

A voice actor’s job can be pretty tough. This was proved to us by Aleks Le, the voice actor for Sung Jinwoo from Solo Leveling and Zenitsu from Demon Slayer. A few days ago, he shared a video where he revealed that the role of Sung Jinwoo put so much strain on his voice that he coughed up blood while voicing a fight scene.
Sung Jinwoo (Credit: Crunchyroll)
Although the character of Sung Jinwoo is normally calm and logical, he sometimes gets enraged and violent while fighting strong enemies or opponents during his dungeon battles. This leads to him screaming and shouting, thus indirectly affecting the voice actor. However, that is not the case for all characters.
As mentioned before, Le also portrays the role of Zenitsu Agatsuma in Koyoharu Gotouge’s Demon Slayer. During an interview last year, the voice actor shared his experience working for one of...

Considering that the overwhelming majority of anime are based on manga (and seldom on original stories) having a title that is actually based on Korean material, emerges as a very intriguing novelty. “Solo Leveling” is based on a South Korean web novel written by Chugong, which was later adapted into a webtoon format, before becoming an anime by A-1 Pictures. It is also worth noting that a k-drama adaptation, a spin-off webtoon and role-playing video game are in the works, in a testament to the success of the franchise.

Before getting an anime adaptation, Solo Leveling had already reached the peak of popularity with the manhwa. Over time, the manhwa industry is starting to take over the manga industry in numbers. The manga industry is still pretty popular within the boundaries of Japan and has loyal followers worldwide, but manhwa is better when it comes to certain aspects.
After Solo Leveling’s popularity, more people have shifted to reading manhwa. Their popularity is increasing, and it is fair to say that Solo Leveling acted as a flag-bearer for the manhwa industry. But there is a particular reason for it. Manga is failing in a certain aspect, and manhwa is excelling in that place, and it is pretty hard to deny the latter’s victory.

The Solo Leveling anime has become a great hit. The original manhwa was already very popular because of its wonderful story and impressive drawing style, especially for action parts. These elements have been given life in the most amazing and visually stunning way by the direction of the anime.
Sota Furuhashi, the producer of Solo Leveling, and Shunsuke Nakashige, the director, discussed the modifications that were necessary to transform the well-known manhwa into a highly popular anime series during a talk.
Why Were The Original Funny Expressions Removed From The Solo Leveling Anime?
During the discussion with Animate Times, Shunsuke Nakashige stated,
“I thought this work required the high-end visuals that are trending these days. Therefore, I tried to avoid cartoon-like expressions as much as possible, using compositions, colors, and shooting processing similar to live-action footage. However, this would inevitably take up too much time and energy, and the images themselves would become too heavy.

The series lived up to the expectations of Manhwa fans and delivered a great adaptation of Chugong’s masterpiece. And much to the surprise of fans, as soon as the series released its final episode, it announced the second season was already in production.
