There comes a moment in many sports documentaries when viewers find themselves wondering whether they’ve drunk the Gatorade. All the fast cuts and swelling music, the bodily injuries and emotional agony, the triumphant moments and podium tears have a way of pushing our buttons.
In director Sarah Dowland’s “Sue Bird: In the Clutch,” that objectivity-questioning pause comes when the WNBA legend’s agent appears for an on-camera interview (she happens to be one of its executive producers as well). No arguing that agent Lindsay Kagawa Colas knows a great deal about Bird and even more about the changes in marketing strategies that women athletes have faced over the years. She also knows that optics matter, and it’s hard not to be a little frustrated that such an obviously biased cheerleader should appear as a source. (Another red flag: NBA Entertainment had a role in producing the doc.

We have some very sad news to close out 2023, folks. Tom Wilkinson, one of the finest and most beloved character actors of this (or any other) generation, has died suddenly at 75. Deadline was the first to report the news. The twice Oscar-nominated co-star of Michael Clayton, Batman Begins, In the Bedroom, and many more films last appeared in Disney Plus’s sequel series to his breakout role in The Full Monty.
Between 1998 and 2018, Wilkinson was one of his generation’s most prolific character actors, with his output putting him up there with Brian Cox and Brendan Gleeson. He made over 65 movies and TV series in that twenty-year period, starring in everything from high-profile arthouse fare like Todd Field’s In the Bedroom to his role as Carmine Falcone in Batman Begins. He often played villains, such as in The Lone Ranger, but had the range to take on pretty much any part.

It’s a lean month for new original content on HBO/Max. November will see the return of two scripted series in Julia and Rap Sh!t, both of which are debuting their respective second seasons, but this month’s fresh highlight is likely to be Bookie, a new comedy series from the partnership of The Big Bang Theory creator Chuck Lorre, and Nick Bakay. The show tracks an LA bookie called Danny (Sebastian Maniscalco), whose business is in peril as California movies to legalize sports gambling.
Elsewhere in November, there quite a few interesting documentaries to keep an eye on, and two that jump out as “must watch”. The first is Albert Brooks: Defending My Life, which chronicles the aging comedian’s life and career. The second is the previously-released Little Richard: I Am Everything, which tries to peel back the whitewashed canon of Richard Penniman in a true...

In February, Carla Simon’s “Alcarràs” walked off with Spain’s first Berlin Golden Bear in nearly 40 years as Spain notched up its biggest main competition presence at the Berlinale since 1997.
This May, Spain has four movies selected for Cannes – Albert Serra’s Competition entry “Pacifiction”; Rodrigo Sorogoyen’s “The Beasts,” in Premiere; Elena López Riera’s Directors’ Fortnight bow “The Water”; and José Luis López Linares’ “Goya, Carrière and the Ghost of Buñuel,” a Cannes Classics doc feature. That reps a Cannes presence roughly on par with recent standout years such as 2018 and 2019.

And as they do, Rina is just the first agent to take a bullet. More Questions Than Answers Their...

Sometime during the rickety, rollicking production of Orson Welles’ The Other Side of the Wind in 1974, the 1942 Oscar statuette for Best Original Screenplay (which Welles had won for Citizen Kane) disappeared. Only three decades later did cinematographer Gary Graver reveal that he’d placed the Oscar, blasphemously used as a prop for The Other Side of the Wind, in his storage. “Here, keep this,” Welles had told him. And so he did. The filmmaker’s daughter, Beatrice Welles, then sued Graver, and sold the statue herself. Because her father had “loathed everything that [the Citizen Kane] Oscar represented,” she argued, “To sell the one thing that had no value to him, but was of great value to others, perhaps was not so bad after all.”This award, however, held immense value for the other winner, the screenwriter and producer Herman J. Mankiewicz (nicknamed “Mank”), who threatened Orson Welles—with rumors and...

HGTV, known for dozens of programs that focus on home makeovers, is doing some remodeling work on a non-traditional structure: its programming lineup.

Star Wars: The Clone Wars season 7 tells the stories that showrunner Dave Filoni never got to tell during the show’s original run, which came to an end in 2014. The new and final season consists of 12 episodes, covering arcs previously alluded to in Star Wars lore but never released in final form on the small screen.
“The Bad Batch” arc covers a mission to rescue missing clone trooper Echo from the Separatists, while “Ahsoka’s Walkabout” explores what Anakin’s former apprentice got up to after leaving behind the Jedi Order. But the big arc of the season is “The Siege of Mandalore,” a final showdown between the Republic and Maul’s Mandalorian forces that ties into the events of Revenge of the Sith!
Created by George Lucas, the show first aired in 2008. It followed the adventures of Anakin Skywalker, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and Padmé Amidala while introducing major new characters...

While Star Wars: The Clone Wars has always managed to deliver on spectacle and thrilling fight sequences with amazing choreography, the heart of the show is in the intimate moments between the characters.
Dave Filoni’s hit animated series mostly serves as an exploration of the Prequel Era and the Clone Wars, giving us a deeper look into the lives of the Jedi and their struggle to bring back peace to a divided galaxy. But beyond that, the writers have also tried to capture the dilemmas of the Clones or even explore their sense of identity outside the war. That’s why, to kickstart things again, the final season began with a story arc that revolved around the return of Arc Trooper Ct-1409, aka Echo.
After realizing that the Separatist army is using Echo’s subconscious to implement counter-strategies against the Republic, Anakin and Rex mounted a rescue mission and brought him back.

The latest episode of Star Wars: The Clone Wars took Anakin to a dark place by having him kill one of his old enemies in cold blood.
It’s almost a miracle that we have The Clone Wars back since the animated series came to an inconclusive end in 2014 with a shortened sixth season. Now, the hit show has returned with a final run consisting of 12 episodes, and Dave Filoni has a lot to wrap up in his bridging story that leads to the events of Revenge of the Sith. Most importantly, this is a great opportunity for the creators to depict Anakin leaning closer to the dark side and losing control as the story draws near to the end of the Clone Wars.
Of course, up to this point, we’ve had many instances where Anakin has succumbed to his emotions and done things that didn’t exactly accommodate the Jedi Code,...

Pushing close against Revenge of the Sith, The Clone Wars season seven is rife with opportunities for foreshadowing. In the Bad Batch arc, Anakin’s behavior brings him closer to the dark side. The finale of the arc also shows the Republic and Separatist armies facing off in a showcase of familiar ships and vehicles.
Here are all of the easter eggs and references we found in the fourth episode of season 7, “Unfinished Business”:
Republic Hardware
On the Republic side, many of the ships we saw docked at Anaxes over the last few episodes now take to the air. They’re lead by Consular-class cruisers, once used primarily by diplomats and retrofitted for war. These share a silhouette with the consular ship — CR90 corvette — Leia is captured on in A New Hope.
As mentioned in the easter egg guide for episode 2, many familiar vehicles used by clone troopers are on display here as well.

This Star Wars: The Clone Wars review contains spoilers.
Star Wars: The Clone Wars Season 7 Episode 4
Some Star Wars: The Clone Wars stories reflect on the clones as conscripted soldiers from birth. Usually, this comes in the form of world-building, like a clone-only bar. Sometimes parallels are drawn between the clones and Anakin, who went from slave to Jedi with no freedom in between.
“Unfinished Business” does not opt for even subtle critique of the clones’ situation, instead telling a high-energy war story. And that’s okay! I’ll forgive The Clone Wars for dropped emotional through-lines. Seven seasons in, those through-lines are clearly not what the show is about. The core characters in this arc still work.
As the Republic launches a two-pronged assault against a Separatist assembly plant, clone trooper Echo’s loyalty is called into question after being hooked up to an enemy computer for months. The...

Here’s a new Star Wars clip for you all. That’s a suitably grandiose way to introduce it, right?
We’re currently three episodes into the seventh and final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. Episode four, titled “Unfinished Business,” is set to be released on Disney Plus this Friday 13th. Would you like to see a clip from it? I don’t care if you don’t, because a clip of “Unfinished Business” has been provided in the box above whether you want to see it or not. Though if you don’t, quite why you’re still reading this is a mystery to me.
Obviously, this isn’t news to anyone who watches The Clone Wars, but seeing as I don’t and I’ve got some time to fill, my first superfluous observation is as follows. That is definitely not Samuel L Jackson’s voice.

Yesterday I wrote up on the names of films and TV shows that would be leaving Netflix over the month of March. Now, the circle of life streaming services dictates that today I bring you the names of films and TV shows that will be joining the new kid on the block, Disney Plus. Some of these titles will be familiar to those who read the previous piece, too, and they at least start out easily recognizable.
March 1 – Doctor Doolittle 2, Ice Age (everybody knows what they are). March 4 – Black Panther (ex-Netters). March 5 – Bedtime Stories (getting obscurer). March 6 – The Finest Hours, Three on the Run (completely lost now).

The long-awaited seventh and final season of The Clone Wars is almost upon us, and ahead of its Disney+ debut on February 21st, the titles and plot descriptions of its first two episodes have been released.
The season opener, titled “The Bad Batch,” is synopsized as “Captain Rex and the Bad Batch must infiltrate an enemy base on Anaxes,” and the second, titled “A Distant Echo,” follows on from this with “Anakin Skywalker, Rex, and the Bad Batch make a shocking discovery on Skako Minor.” And that’s all we’re getting, although given the fast pacing that episodes of The Clone Wars typically possess, much more than that really shouldn’t be needed to pique viewers’ interest.
The two episodes are the first half of a four-part arc that was scheduled as the opener of what was intended to be The Clone Wars’ original seventh season, which would likely...

Supernatural has shown a surprising amount of restraint when it comes to killing Sam and Dean. There has been the occasional (very temporary) death of Dean. It's been a while since Supernatural ended a season with one of the brothers dying in a more permanent-ish fashion, which was a staple of the series for a very long time. However, it appears that the closer season 13 gets to its endgame the more likely it is that the old Supernatural trope might return. The episode "Unfinished Business" dropped some heavy hints that Dean could die before the season is out.

Spoiler Alert: Do not read if you have not yet watched “Unfinished Business,” the 20th episode of the 13th season of “Supernatural.”
