The Game Awards brought a lot of announcements of new IPs and games; Exodus was one of these titles. Baldur’s Gate 3 and Exodus are already being compared based on one specific connection. This space-Odyssey adventure will feature Hollywood actor Matthew McConaughey as the main protagonist. The studio behind this project is called Archetype.

The release of "Drive-Away Dolls" has been marked by most of the trades as the first solo directorial feature of Ethan Coen, following his brother Joel's 2021 outing with "The Tragedy of Macbeth." And sure, it's a catchy headline to acknowledge that one-half of one of cinema's greatest directorial partnerships is stepping out on his own, but that doesn't tell the full story. For one thing, Ethan Coen already made his solo directorial debut with the documentary "Jerry Lee Lewis: Trouble in Mind." More importantly, "Drive-Away Dolls" may have Coen listed as the solo director, but if you ask him, this was yet another co-directed project, but this time with his wife and longtime Coen Bros. editor, Tricia Cooke.
Cooke first worked with the Coens as an editor on "Miller's Crossing" fresh out of film school, seeking out the job not because they were the esteemed directors of "Blood Simple" and Raising Arizona" fame,...

Wil Wheaton has parlayed his acting career into a number of hosting gigs, none more significant than his gig as the ringleader of Geek & Sundry’s TableTop (and its recent spinoff, Titansgrave). In his latest role, Wheaton is back in the host’s chair, and he is joined by accomplished video game developers. Wheaton is the central figure in the PlayStation web series Conversations With Creators, which has now launched its first episode.
In each episode of Conversations With Creators, Wheaton sits down with the team behind a popular video game. The maiden episode spotlights the developers at Bungie, who after turning Halo into an Xbox staple have moved on to create another hit, Destiny, for both PlayStation and Xbox consoles. The tone of the interview is a bit dry, but there’s plenty of interesting commentary within it, and Wheaton proves to be a knowledgeable host. Think of Conversations...

Wil Wheaton will soon be hosting a new show for the PlayStation Store. The geeky host and internet icon will talk everything video games in the web series Conversations with Creators, which premieres on July 7, 2015.
Conversations with Creators is exactly what it sounds like: each week, Wheaton sits down with game developers and discusses the video game industry in roundtable fashion. Topics Wheaton and his guests will cover include how games and movies are both similar and different, why The Last of Us was so terrifying, and where the idea for Bungie’s hit game Destiny came from.
Wheaton’s involvement in a video game-based show for PlayStation makes sense considering the host’s previous experience leading similar series on Geek & Sundry. The ex-Star Trek actor hosts the fan-favorite TableTop series, all about tabletop gaming and creators. Wheaton also just debuted his new role-playing game series called Titansgrave: The Ashes of Valkana.

TableTop is an original online entertainment property with an on-paper premise unpalatable to traditional media. Yes, the program does have some innate cross-platform star appeal. The bi-weekly-or-so series is distributed by way of online video poster child’s Felicia Day’s (and more recently Legendary’s) YouTube destination Geek & Sundry and hosted by Star Trek: The Next Generation alum and overall object of internet obsession Wil Wheaton. But TableTop's subject matter isn’t something individuals with an appetite to watch or produce mainstream entertainment usually seek out (the show’s all about classic, modern, and not computerized gaming) and the very long format is one that bucks the general online video trend (each episode consists of upwards of 50 minutes of content composed of Wheaton introducing a board game or two and then playing one of those board games with friends).

For the third year in a row, Geek & Sundry will share its love of board, card, and pen-and-paper games with International TableTop Day, which will go down on April 11th, 2015. While a celebration of tabletop games is the main goal, there will be more than just victory points at stake. In addition, Geek & Sundry has teamed with the Big Brothers Big Sisters of Greater Los Angeles organization, to which it will donate thousands of board games.
In 2015, TableTop Day will take over the Legendary Digital Network Soundstages, where Geek & Sundry founder Felicia Day and TableTop host Wil Wheaton will host a gathering of more than 800 gamers. Those festivities, which will run between 11 Am and 6 Pm Pst on April 11th, will be live streamed on Geek & Sundry's recently launched Twitch channel.
Wheaton provided an introduction to TableTop Day when he introduced the third annual event in a video released in March.

In April 2014, Wil Wheaton and Geek & Sundry took to Indiegogo in hopes of raising the $500,000 they needed to fund a third season of their board game-centered web series, TableTop. The campaign ended up beating its goal nearly three times over by raising more than $1.4 million. With so much bonus cash in their pockets, Wheaton and Geek & Sundry decided to give their fans an extra treat: An entirely new web series based around tabletop role-playing games (RPGs).
Now, Geek & Sundry has revealed some important information about that show. It will be titled Titansgrave: The Ashes of Valkana, it will debut on June 2nd, and it follow a group of well-known guests as they role-play through a fantastical adventure.

Rooster Teeth turns 12-years-young on April 1, 2015. The Austin, Texas-based production company, online video and machinima pioneer, and prolific creator of high-quality online video programming has a lot of things to celebrate, including more than 16 million subscribers across its half-dozen-or-so established and burgeoning YouTube channels, a thriving destination site with an ardent, active, and happily paying community that’s two-million-unique-visitors-a-month strong, a recent presumably multi-million dollar sale to the YouTube multi-channel network Fullscreen, a growing convention for tens of thousands of fans of gaming and internet culture, and an upcoming feature that’s one of the top most-crowdfunded film campaigns of all time.
It’s that last achievement the individuals at Rooster Teeth should celebrate most as the entity enters the last of its preteen years.

Indiegogo campaign for web series is now the highest crowdfunded web series of all time.
Alan Tudyk and Nathan Fillion’s Con Man Indiegogo campaign has broken two crowdfunding records.
The sci-fi web series has achieved the most funds raised by a web series within its first 24 hours and the record for all-time highest crowdfunded web series in history. Both records are across all crowdfunding platforms.
Within a short time from its launch, Con Man broke through its initial $425,000 goal and went past the $1m mark before midnight Eastern on its first day.
It has currently raised over $1.6m, breaking the previous records set by Tabletop Season 3’s Indiegogo campaign which raised $1.4m within 35 days.
With 29 days left in the campaign, Con Man needs to reach its stretch goal of $1.75m to be able to make a full 12 episode first season and to create a “lost episode” of Spectrum, Con Man’s show within the show.

Indiegogo had a big year in 2014, and the crowdfunding platform isn't too humble to brag about it. It has released a video titled "Indiegogo 2014 Year In Review" that recaps a few of the most prominent projects to grace the site during the previous 12 months.
The video runs through various tech campaigns, including Jibo the robot and the Solar Roadways project, both of which brought in upwards of $2.2 million for their creators. A few film-related campaigns are also noted, including the ones for Life Itself and Dear White People.
Not mentioned in the video are the many online video creators who found success on Indiegogo in 2014. Notable projects include Rooster Teeth's Lazer Team film, which raised more than $2.4 million, and Wil Wheaton's TableTop campaign, which topped out at more than $1.2 million

Wil Wheaton has had the privilege of playing a Starship crew member and a host of a sci-fi-pop-comedy-talk show on television, a board game aficionado on the web, and an imbiber of Newcastle’s new beers in a Twitter video. Now he can add “matchmaker” to his resume. The actor known for playing Wesley Crusher and his Geek & Sundry gaming web series TableTop stars in a new promotional spoof video from Nerdist Industries for the fake smartphone app Duo.
The video starts off with “relationship expert” Dr. Hank Tannen (Wheaton) explaining how easy his Duo app has made it for superheroes to find their ideal sidekicks, no matter how busy their crime-fighting days may be. The short then brings in “spokespeople” in the form of Captain America and Bucky Barnes, Green Arrow and Flash, and Batman and Robin (both versions of him, as well as the Nightwing interpretation). Wil Wheaton loves beer so much that he helped out Newcastle with their new ad campaign. The geeky actor, writer, and home-brewing advocate appeared with his “twin brother” in a Twitter video for Newcastle’s recently-introduced Scotch Ale. In the two-minute video, Wheaton appears with his long-lost twin Bil Wheaton (played by Wil using the split-screen format). Bil operates the boom mic and “translates” Wil’s beer jargon into everyday English so the non-beer fanatics will understand what he’s saying. The ad finishes with Wil taking a sip of the Scotch Ale as Bil recalls how good his brother was in Stand By Me and questions “what happened to him.” Wheaton also worked with Newcastle on a second ad for the Scotch Ale debut called “Unbeknownst.” The actor’s breakout role was as the teen heartthrob Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation. However, Wheaton is more prominently...

The production company behind films like The Dark Knight, Pacific Rim, and Godzilla just made a significant addition to its digital portfolio. Legendary has acquired Geek & Sundry, the online video network run by Felicia Day. Since 2012, Geek & Sundry--which originally launched as part of the YouTube Original Channels Initiative--has served as a home for nerd-friendly web series like Wil Wheaton's TableTop, Bryan Singer's Spooked, and, for its final season, Day's The Guild. The network has also created a small community of vloggers who present their thoughts on various geeky subjects. All of these endeavors have allowed Geek & Sundry to build up a significant audience. During the same week that the Geek & Sundry channel passed a million subscribers (a development we'll discuss in greater detail in a few days), Day announced the new deal with Legendary in a video update. Geek & Sundry will become an integral part of Legendary's digital division,...

A month after its launch, Rooster Teeth's first ever Indiegogo campaign has closed, and it has brought home a record-breaking amount. The project, which raised money to fund a feature film called Lazer Team, ended up hauling in $2,480,421, making it the most funded film campaign in Indiegogo history. The Lazer Team campaign began on June 6th and roared out of the gate. It met its initial $650,000 goal in just ten hours, but that did not slow it down. The campaign passed $1,000,000 a few days later and trumped Wil Wheaton's TableTop campaign (which had previously served as the most-backed Indiegogo campaign related to web video) soon after that. The final days of the Lazer Team campaign coincided with Rooster Teeth's annual Rtx convention, where co-founder Burnie Burns and Gus Sorola (pictured above) were able to rally their troops for one final push. Ultimately, the $2.4 million total broke the record for...

Dungeons & Dragons has defied the odds and turned forty this year. A niche game that might take a decade to complete, its mixture of imagination, dice, paper and pencils seemed no match for the rise of the Digital Age and quick satisfaction. But tabletop gaming (and RPGs) bit their thumbs at the odds and became kinda cool. Celebs like Wil Wheaton, Sam Witwer, and Chris Hardwick have met up for a round of Dragon Age on TableTop, and the popular web series is now cooking up a spin-off RPG show after their super-successful crowdfunding campaign. But the RPG has not only infiltrated the back-room geek realms of the Internet. Though it never made much progress on film, save for the rare appearance in films like Et, D&D has become a television pre-requisite. Forget about musical episodes; if geeks are present in any noticeable way, there will be an episode or scene devoted to a D&D...

When Wil Wheaton files his taxes, he identifies himself as a writer and an actor. Presumably, that's because he's too modest to write "polymath geek icon." Wheaton's career trajectory is as remarkable as it is difficult to describe: He starred in the seminal 1986 coming-of-age drama Stand by Me, portrayed the divisive character of Wesley Crusher on Star Trek: The Next Generation, then fell into obscurity for most of the late '90s and early '00s. But within the past decade, he's become a touchstone of the amorphous entity known as geek culture. His biggest canvas is Twitter, where he currently has 2.6 million followers and where he tweets about everything from net neutrality to board games. Speaking of board games, he also hosts a video web-series about them called TableTop, and this month, Wheaton raised a record-setting $1.4 million from fans to keep the show going. Wil Wheaton has won crowdfunding. With just a couple days to go in his Indiegogo campaign, the former Star Trek: The Next Generation cast member and certified nerd has raised more than $1.2 million to fund a third season of his Geek & Sundry web series, TableTop. The $1.2 million total (and counting) makes the TableTop campaign the most-funded web series project in crowdfunding history, surpassing Freddie Wong's Season 3 Video Game High School Indiegogo campaign ($898,144) and Frederator's Bee and PuppyCat Kickstarter campaign ($872,134). By cracking one million, Wheaton also achieved all of his stretch goals, thus allowing him to greenlight a TableTop spinoff based around pen-and-paper RPGs. He thanked his fans in a video released via Geek & Sundry. Wheaton also recently took to Reddit for an IamA. Wil Wheaton just raised a lot of money to play nerdy board games. The actor and host of the upcoming SyFy series The Wil Wheaton Project has completed a $500,000 Indiegogo campaign and ensured a third season of TableTop, his popular board game-oriented YouTube show. Wheaton launched the $500,000 campaign on April 5th in search of the money he needed to produce a third season of TableTop, which lives on the Geek & Sundry YouTube channel. His viewers came through with aplomb, raising the necessary funds in just five days. As a result, a 15 episode third season has been greenlit. A number of stretch goals should keep the grand total rolling higher. If TableTop raises $750,000, five more episodes will be added; if it reaches a cool million, Wheaton will develop a spin-off show where he and his guests play tabletop RPGs such as Dungeons and Dragons. For its latest series, however, Geek and Sundry is branching out. Felicia Day's nerd-centric hub will make its Hulu debut through Caper, a sci-fi series about three "immortals" and their human roommate. Caper, created by TV vet Amy Berg, stars Justified's Abby Miller as Penny, a human who must fit in with her three roommates, all of whom are super-powered, immortal beings. Not to be outdone, Penny herself is a superhero, possessing an Iron Man-like metal suit. The lack of financial compensation for crime fighting causes rent to become tight, so the four roommates decide to pull off a heist, though they call it a Caper because that sounds better. The It Crowd special has a blisteringly funny script and feels as if it's never been away...
We all have those friends, haven’t we, who we can not speak to for months - or even years - but when we run into them it’s as if they’ve never been away? It’s been over three years since we last caught up with Moss, Roy and Jen of Reynholm Industries, and from the moment The It Crowd’s final episode begins it’s clear that, a welcome tweak to the opening credits aside, it’s business as usual for our heroes. From Moss and Roy’s opening chat about the latest love of Roy’s life to Jen’s awkward flirtation with a barista at her local coffee shop, it’s reassuringly clear that this is simply the next episode of The It Crowd,...

Iron Man 3 is a couple of weeks old now and everybody is in a lather over the end credits and the potential for a new Hulk movie (we can all agree that Mark Ruffalo is a far superior Hulk to Edward Norton, right?). Star Trek Into Darkness will most likely result in the same level of fervor (if the Romulans show up do you think Wil Wheaton will do most of background Romulan voices this time around as well?).
And so it begins: the summer blockbuster season where we all go crazy and debate the morals of super heroes, people who drive cars really fast, favorite beloved characters and their emotional arcs and whether or not Kevin Costner will really be the best father of Superman yet.
But what do you do between these releases? Sure you want to see the movies over and over again. We’re nerds...

Growing a channel on YouTube is still a new endeavor, but for some it seems to be proving quite fruitful. Felicia day started her channel, Geek & Sundry, last spring and to this day it continues to grow. Not only has it renewed two of its programs for second seasons – Tabletop and Space Janitors – but it’s been adding new programs as well. The YouTube channeling is looking to continue its expansion by launching its own talent search with the Geek & Sundry Vlogs Channel. In a nutshell, it’s like American Idol but with vloggers. And that’s a very small nutshell, so don’t expect it to be anything so typical.
The Multi-Channel Network was launched Monday, May 20, of which the Vlogs Channel is a part. According to THR, Day and producer Jenni Powell will act as mentors to 20 vloggers, with each vlogger getting support from Geek & Sundry and a per-video stipend.

Polygon was one of the outlets to receive an invitation from Microsoft to attend a May 21 preview event where the next generation Xbox will finally make its debut.
It's the first official confirmation of Microsoft's next machine after months of frenzied rumor and speculation. Will it be an always-on device? Will it play used games? Everything from the specs to a possibly updated and integrated Kinect have been floating around as the Redmond tech giant kept quiet about what they were planning for their next machine. "Durango" has been the codename of note for the console, although it's anyone's guess what the next machine will be called (my guess a hard reboot to "Xbox," a clear and simple name for what's likely to be Microsoft's all-purpose set-top box).
The event invite has asked attendees to be at the Microsoft campus by 9:15 Am on the 21, using the hashtag #XboxReveal. Microsoft...

The gaming community is finally coming into its own. You can see this evidenced by the number of people who proudly wear their stylin gamer tees, customized jackets, and witty bumper stickers. There are a lot of different factors that have helped to demystify and devilify the gamer community. Here are just some of them.
The Invention of the Convention
Conventions have been around for pretty much ever, but the inclusion of gaming into some of the bigger conventions as well as game-focused cons has only happened over the last decade or so.
The biggest gaming convention, by far, is Pax or Penny Arcade Expo. Going into its thirteenth year, the convention that was little more than a hotel ballroom in the beginning now takes over the entire Seattle Convention Center and its annex across the street every Labor Day weekend and has two satellite shows: Pax East, in Boston and Pax Aus,...

Geek and Sundry recently announced its second year of programming, and one of the major announcements was International Tabletop Day, an worldwide event dedicated to tabletop gaming. To help promote #TableTopDay on March 30th, Felicia Day has taken to Reddit, where she has offered answers on a wide range of subjects. The most upvoted question came from Felicia's brother Ryon, who crashed the Reddit party by asking, "Who is the person you most admire in this world, and why your brother?" Felicia responded by screaming at her brother to "Get The F**K Out Of Here" and threatened to withhold the new Tomb Raider game from him. I expect the hair pulling to commence shortly. Aside from playing out her sibling rivalry, Day also answered a multitude of questions about her life and work. Most significantly, she noted that the recently completed sixth season of The Guild is probably the...

Who is the cutest geek girl in Hollywood? How about Felicia Day? If she isn’t the cutest in your book, she’s still on her way to being most successful. In the news today, the actress and producer’s very own YouTube channel celebrates the renewals of two popular series as well as the addition of three brand spankin’ new ones.
The channel is aptly titled “Geek & Sundry”. That’s a take off the old phrase “various and sundry” and is appropriate because her YouTube channel offer a potpourri of all things geek-tastic.
THR announced that in addition to “TableTop” and “Space Janitors” seeing renewals, “Felicia’s Ark”, “Fetch Quest” and “The Player Ones” are all-new series which have been added to the usual line-up. Let’s examine these new offerings!
“Felicia’s Ark” will run on Mondays and follows Day as she rescues animals, not from abusive homes,...

Felicia Day's Geek and Sundry channel will celebrate its one year anniversary on April 1st, and the YouTube Original Channel dedicated to nerd culture is celebrating with a new slate of programming. In addition to returning existing favorites, three new shows based around video games will be launched. The two returning shows are Space Janitors, the sci-fi comedy created by Geoff Lapaire of Pure Pwnage, and TableTop, where Wil Wheaton invites notable nerdy people onto his show for some board game action. Season two had better feature a round of Carcassonne, or else. To spice up the new season, Day and Wheaton are launching International Tabletop Day, a global event dedicated to analog gaming. Three debutant series will join the two returnees, with video games taking center stage. Felicia's Ark will see Day and her viewers choosing which video game animals to take aboard her ark, thus saving them from impending doom.

At a panel for YouTube channel Geek and Sundry at San Diego Comic Con, the likes of Wil Wheaton, Felicia Day, and Kim Evey talked about their various web shows. While there are were lots of interesting tidbits from the panel, one anecdote in particular was rather amusing:
“The cast was then asked if they had ever cosplayed in order to traverse the Comic-Con floor unnoticed. None of them had, but Wheaton had a story to tell: “On Thursday morning I was wearing a bowling shirt that said ‘Wesley Crusher’s Bowling Shirt’ and I went downstairs with my wife to have breakfast and a guy comes up to me and says ‘Are you cosplaying as Wil Wheat– Oh!’””
Who knows what would have happened if someone cosplaying Sheldon Cooper from The Big Bang Theory had mistaken him for Evil Wil Wheaton (or an Evil Wil Wheaton cosplayer, for that matter)? Probably some witty repartee,...

At a Comic Con panel for Geek & Sundry, her YouTube channel which is host to shows such as The Flog and Tabletop, Felicia Day talked about her first and most popular web series, The Guild.
Spinoff Online reports that:
"Day then announced what fans in attendance had been eagerly awaiting - that the sixth season of The Guild will join the Geek & Sundry lineup."
After 5 very popular seasons (it's one of the most viewed web series on the entire internet), it's not surprising that The Guild would get a sixth season, but after speculation from fans, it's good that The Guild Season 6 is finally confirmed. That is, unless Geek & Sundry includes non-existent shows. (Though technically, you could argue that every YouTube channel has an infinite number of non-existent shows, as well as any existing ones. But which non-existent shows are better? It's an unwinnable argument, but hey, this is the internet,...
