The Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins teared up during a livestream telecast Wednesday. He had just won a hard-fought, months-long arbitration with his Biblical drama’s original partner, Angel Studios. The arbitrator had ruled in Jenkins’ company’s favor, freeing him to potentially secure a major exclusive streaming partner to help fund the show’s upcoming seasons.
“What I’m about to say [is] very sad,” Jenkins said (video below). “The arbitrator’s decision comprehensively affirmed our position…and The Chosen‘s relationship with Angel Studios is effectively over. We take no pleasure in this. We want to reiterate our deep appreciation for their immeasurable role in how they launched the show. But we came to the conclusion that we simply had no choice [but to split with Angel] for the future of our company and the show.”
Jenkins then announced the news Chosen fans had long waited for — a season four streaming date.

Angel Studios is planning to appeal an arbitrator’s ruling that ended its relationship with the producers of faith-based TV megahit “The Chosen.” The news comes as The Chosen LLC — the company behind the production of series — announced this week that the show’s Season 4 would exclusively stream on “The Chosen” app starting with the first two episodes on June 2.
In a statement, Angel Studios CEO Neal Harmon said it will “pursue the appeal provision that Angel and The Chosen agreed to as the process for resolving disagreements privately.”
In a unique distribution model, “The Chosen” Season 4 was first released in theaters this February, where it scored big box office returns. But after that, the show’s TV premiere remained in limbo as Angel Studios and The Chosen LLC tussled over the season premiere plans.
“The Chosen” started in 2017 as a partnership between Dallas Jenkins and Angel Studios, originally financed through crowdfunding.

Exclusive: Milo Ventimiglia, star of This is Us and Heroes, has new representation.
The actor has signed with WME. He was previously repped by Verve.
It comes after he starred in ABC drama series The Company You Keep, which ran for one season. His production company Divide Pictures, which he runs with Russ Cundiff, produced that series and has sold a slew of projects to networks and streamers. Divide has a deal at 20th Television.
Ventimiglia is best known for starring in NBC drama series This Is Us, which ran for six seasons and over 100 episodes. In addition to play Jack Pearson, a character that helped him score three Emmy nominations, he also directed a number of episodes.
He recently starred in the feature film Land of Bad, opposite Russell Crowe and Liam Hemsworth and led Disney film The Art of Racing in the Rain, an adaptation of the novel by Garth Stein.

We just got some disappointing news for fans of The Chosen eagerly anticipating Season 4.
Sadly, it will be some time before the series is made available on streaming platforms, and right now we don’t know when that time will be.
However, it’s not all bad news — at least for those in the U.S. and Canada because the series will be shown in theatres over the Easter weekend.
Theatergoers can buy tickets to watch all eight episodes over the three-day weekend, at a discounted cost.
As for international viewers and everyone else waiting with anticipation to see the show, it will be available on The Chosen app at some point, and yes it will be free.
However, fans will have to exercise a bit of patience because no date has been given for that.

As The Chosen continues its groundbreaking run with new episodes dropping in theaters, fans have begun to wonder if and when Season 5 of the faith-based series will be released.

Season 4 of the series took to theaters across North America, with new episodes dropping in bunches (see the exact Chosen Season 4 release schedule here). Yet, no confirmation of a potential Season 5 has been made public.

After being stuck with a day and date HBO Max release at the height of the pandemic, Denis Villeneuve’s Dune: Part Two is getting a conventional theatrical release. This means audiences will finally get to experience the epic Frank Herbert adaptation the way it was meant to be seen: on the big screen (and in IMAX). While the first movie only opened to a modest $41 million, we fully expect the sequel to make double that this weekend. The obvious reason, of course, is that the movie won’t be available on Max, but I also think word of mouth on this one will be stronger than it was for the first film. While Dune was great, it can’t be denied that there’s a massive quality jump in the sequel, with many saying it’s the Dark Knight compared to the first film’s Batman Begins and should...

One of my favorite "Buffy The Vampire Slayer" characters is Anya Jenkins (Emma Caulfield), the Vengeance Demon turned human. She's introduced as the villain of the season 3 episode "The Wish," in which Cordelia (Charisma Carpenter) wishes for a world where Buffy (Sarah Michelle Gellar) never came to Sunnydale. When Anya makes Cordelia's wish come true, vampires end up ruling the town in the Slayer's absence.
Restoring the proper timeline robbed Anya of her powers; she's stuck as just another teenager attending Sunnydale High (and flunking math). Initially resentful of her new life, she eventually falls for Xander (Nicholas Brendon), and by season 4, she's part of the Scooby gang, sharing duties with her boyfriend as the show's comic relief.
Anya is hilarious; much of the humor in "Buffy" is sardonic, but she's oblivious. Having spent centuries as a vengeance demon, modern socialization skills escape her. Anya can be just as cutting or rude as the others,...

Growing up in St. Charles, Illinois, Dallas Jenkins was not the child who was restless while sitting in the pews of church during a long service or in a classroom learning about the Bible. In fact, he was invigorated by Scripture lessons. And the Evangelical Christian, who would end up creating spiritual megahit The Chosen, always asked lots of questions. Jenkins remembers seeing classic imagery of Jesus Christ while in classes, where the Son of God was dressed in immaculate white and blue robes on flannelgraph and picture books. “He was just a big, smiling guy, and all the disciples are these old, bearded dudes,” the 48-year-old recalls. “But I was the one in class [asking], ‘What would it be like playing cards against Jesus? He always knows what you have! What would it be like to play sports with Jesus or to sit around a campfire [with Him]?’” ...

Amazon MGM Studios is getting spiritual.
The company announced Wednesday that it’s brokered a partnership with the recently formed Wonder Project, which bills itself as an independent studio designed to “develop series and films rooted in spirituality.” The latter is led by veteran producer Jon Erwin (Jesus Revolution) and former Netflix and YouTube exec Kelly Merryman Hoogstraten, and counts The Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins among its largest shareholders and special advisers. As part of the new pact, Prime Video has already ordered its first project, House of David, to series.
Per Amazon, the logline reads: “House of David follows the once-mighty King Saul as he falls victim to his own pride. A prophet prepares to overthrow him — anointing the outcast shepherd boy David as a second king. As Saul’s fury grows, David navigates love, violence and politics in the court of the very man he’s destined to replace.

Sometimes a movie scene is so scary that it haunts you for years to come. It could be a jump-scare that jolts your soul clean out of your body; an image so incomprehensible that your brain can never truly hope to resolve it; an atmospheric nightmare that fills you with palpable dread from head to toe. That’s the power of a great horror movie – the right shot, or sound, or cut feels like it could completely change your body chemistry. For some filmgoers, it’s a reason to never watch a scary film ever again; for others, it’s the exact reason they watch them in the first place.
With Halloween approaching, allow the minds of the Empire team to share the movie scenes that have scared them more than any other – horrifying endings, deeply dark childhood frights, emotionally-devastating delights, and ghouls simply saying, ‘Boo!’ Read it with the lights out.

With so many viewing options available on streaming, there’s seemingly something to watch for everybody. But for many families, it seems like what parents want is taking a back seat. According to a new study from young audience digital company SuperAwesome it appears that increasingly, the youngest people in the house are the ones in control of the remote, and therefore are determining which services are worth subscribing.
The study shows that in a majority of households in the United States, kids are instrumental in deciding what families watch. In 56% of cases, either children make the viewing decisions alone, or they are involved in the decision-making process along with the rest of the family. It is only in 43% of the surveyed U.S. households that the parents make the decisions on their own. The divide is even more stark across the pond. In the United Kingdom, children — solely or...

There probably isn’t anyone out there who could have predicted that an indie drama about child trafficking, led by the star of “The Passion of the Christ,” would get even close to beating “The Flash” at the U.S. box office while the DC film’s theatrical run plummets below 1,000 theaters after just one month, but that is what Angel Studios’ “Sound of Freedom,” has achieved over the past two weeks.
Since its release on July 4, “Sound of Freedom” has grossed $90 million at the domestic box office, passing the $77.1 million total of A24’s “Everything Everywhere All at Once” to become the highest grossing independent release since theaters reopened in 2021.

[This interview was conducted prior to the SAG-AFTRA strike authorization.] Talk about a 21st-century miracle. The faith-based series has converted a mass of impassioned viewers to rival any Yellowstone or The Walking Dead fanbase — without marquee stars or aggressive marketing. We’re of course talking about The Chosen, the first multi-season series to depict the life and ministry of Jesus of Nazareth (played by Jonathan Roumie) and his most fervent followers. The show’s first three seasons have been available for free via the Chosen app and the Angel Studios website, as well as on streamers like Netflix and Prime Video, but you can now watch the series’ broadcast debut on The CW as it airs 24 divine weekly episodes from Sunday, July 16, through Christmas Eve. “Over 100 million people have seen at least one episode,” creator Dallas Jenkins tells us after a busy day shooting a Season 4 episode in Goshen, Utah. (The series also films outside Dallas.) But...

Exclusive: The Chosen creator Dallas Jenkins has said he is thankful that SAG-AFTRA has granted one of its first interim agreements to Season 4 of his hit faith drama, allowing it to continue filming despite the strike.
Jenkins told us today: “As an independent show with two weeks remaining to film our current season, we appreciate SAG’s recognition that not all productions are the same. We’ve agreed to all the terms of their current interim agreement.”
Texas and Utah-shot series The Chosen barely missed a beat, only having to shoot a day or two without cast before filming resumed today. The series includes multiple SAG actors including star Jonathan Roumie, who plays Jesus.

The CW continues to try out different programming in the wake of Nexstar taking over the network, and it looks like The Chosen was a risk work taking.
Sunday's 90-minute broadcast-tv premiere had 520,000 viewers and a 0.1 rating, easily outperforming the rest of the network's summer shows.
Nancy Drew and Riverdale would love these numbers, and The Chosen's performance is even more impressive when you consider that it's been available on streaming platforms for quite a while now.
The CW picked up The Chosen earlier this year with a commitment to air all three seasons and more if the show succeeds.
The Chosen is set to air through Christmas Eve, but the network has yet to decide on the fourth season.
The show can continue production on its fourth season despite the SAG-AFTRA strike.
