"Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil" - A Delightful Entertainer for All Ages**
user-992-84202416 May 2024
"Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil," and I must say, it was a delightful surprise! I initially went in with some reservations, fearing it might be a flop, but the movie turned out to be an absolute entertainer that surpassed all my expectations.

From start to finish, "Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil" keeps the audience engaged with its perfect blend of humor and heartwarming moments. The film's comedic elements are well-crafted, ensuring laughter for people of all ages. The script is peppered with witty dialogues and hilarious situations that had the entire theater roaring with laughter.

The performances are top-notch, with each actor bringing their unique charm to the screen. The characters are relatable and endearing, making it easy for the audience to connect with their journeys. The chemistry between the cast members adds an extra layer of enjoyment to the film.

The direction is commendable, as it maintains a steady pace and ensures that the humor never feels forced or over-the-top. Overall, "Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil" is a must-watch for anyone looking for a good laugh and a wholesome movie experience. It's a feel-good entertainer that guarantees a fun time for audiences of all ages. Don't miss out on this gem - it's a guaranteed mood-lifter!

Light Comedy
sainashanutvm18 May 2024
Watched the movie yesterday, the movie is ok.l don't know why people are giving soo much of hype for these movies nowadays. First half of movie,is more entertaining than the second half. There are many funny moments in the film initially with Basil and Prithviraj combo. But as the story progresses, there was some ....lag or logic missing in the movie. The character played by prithviraj could have been more entertaining if it was played by actors like Nivin pauly or soubin, who could handle comedy easily. People expect heroic roles from actor like Prithviraj. The is nothing special about the role played by Yogibabu. Compared to other Basil movies like Janagana mana and falimy, this movie is little bit ...low. The movie is just ' A one time watch'.

90s Malayalam family comedy updated
Jithindurden18 May 2024
Guruvayoorambala Nadayil follows the path of so many great 90s family comedy movies of Malayalam and updated it for the new generation. The bRomance between Basil's and Prithviraj's characters is truly the highlight of the movie. When Basil says "Ente Aanandhettan" that's better than all the romantic movies I've seen recently. The comedy of errors in the last act wasn't perfect but it had enough things going on well, that it worked really great. Guruvayoor in Malayalam cinema couldn't be mentioned without Nandhanam and that part was really nicely executed. Non-Malayalis who started watching Malayalam films recently would totally get confused by some of the things at the end.

The Guruvayoor sets were incredible. If I didn't know it was a set, I would've believed it was the real temple where I've visited so many times. Seeing places near Guruvayoor that I know very well was nice too.

I wasn't really impressed with the songs but the way they were visualized was nice. The really sad thing is how underutilized the female characters are when there is space for them to do things. Both Anaswara and Nikhila could have done way more in so many scenes that felt unfinished. Especially Nikhila Vimal is wasted with showing such potential for the character with that intro and plot points. That intro she got was really awesome and a fan inside me was ready to watch her do something but alas, she got to do nothing. It felt like there might have been more that was shot but they couldn't really coherently put it together, so opted to sideline them instead.

But despite all the flaws it had, it was an entertainer from start to finish in a purely Malayali way. Having a houseful responsive audience really do help with these types of films.

Simple story presented in a very very engaging and entertainment manner by vipin das and crew !!

A lot of fresh faces and combo of actors are in it and they done their roles nicely!

Nikhila vimal & anaswara rajan has important characters and they did fine !

Bromance between Prithviraj Sukumaran & Basil Joseph is rollicking and it is very entertaining to watch them in big screen together ,they both rocked and their combo scenes are treat to the audience !

Technical side gave ample support .

A Tale of Two Halves: A Movie of Contrasting Emotions
disconair20 May 2024
The film starts off with an incredible bang, delivering a first half that is nothing short of a laugh riot. The initial setup is expertly crafted, replete with sharp writing, well-timed humor, and engaging character dynamics that keep you thoroughly entertained. The direction in this segment is tight, the pacing brisk, and the comedy hits the mark with consistent precision. This is the part of the film that I'd eagerly recommend to anyone looking for a good time at the movies. However, a word of caution is necessary: brace yourself for a noticeable dip in quality as the film progresses into its second half.

After intermission, the movie unfortunately takes a nosedive. The writing loses its earlier sharpness, giving way to a series of poorly constructed scenes that left me cringing in my seat. The once bright and engaging storyline becomes muddled and directionless. It seems as though the writers ran out of steam, resulting in a narrative that drags and feels aimless. The climax, in particular, is disappointingly stretched out, leading to an unsatisfying and gloomy conclusion. What started as a promising journey ends on a sour note, leaving the audience with a sense of unfulfilled potential.

One of the most glaring issues in the second half is the underutilization of Yogi Babu. Known for his impeccable comedic timing and distinctive screen presence, Yogi Babu could have significantly elevated the film had his talents been properly harnessed.

Additionally, the introduction of too many characters mid-way through the film further complicates the narrative. Rather than enriching the story, these characters clutter the plot and detract from the central storyline. The focus shifts erratically, and the film struggles to maintain the coherence and charm that characterized its beginning. This overcrowding dilutes the impact of the main characters, making it hard for the audience to stay invested in their arcs.

In summary, this movie is a textbook example of a tale of two halves. The first half promises a delightful cinematic experience filled with humor and wit, making it a must-watch. However, the second half's weak writing, poor utilization of key talent, and an overabundance of characters derail the film, resulting in a frustrating and lackluster conclusion. If you do decide to watch this film, you might find yourself contemplating leaving at intermission to preserve.

A must theatrical watch
meghafebin17 May 2024
This movie is very entertaining and is for all ages. If you are looking for a very light hearted entertaining movie, this is it. It should be watched in the theatre to get most of it. All the cast did a brilliant job, especially Prithviraj and Basil. I went for a movie after a long time. But this movie made it worthwhile. The plot, characters, everything is awesome. Even the actors who did very short roles was amazing to watch. It should be watched as a crowd. It is a family movie. If you can't make it to the theatre, please watch it as a family when it comes to OTT, as you can enjoy it more when watched with everyone But still I would recommend to watch it in Theatre.

Fun to watch, but it slows down in the middle.
kishan_thachatt22 May 2024
A fun entertainer by Vipin Das, where Basil and Prithvi peak in their comedy combo on screen. The plot itself is funny, so from the beginning onwards, the theatre started laughing. The main attraction of the movie is the music and background music, especially when they use old songs as the background, which syncs with the shots so smoothly. Vipin's reference game is strong, especially the Drishyam reference, the Nandanam reference, and that Kalyanam invitation shot of Prithvi. There are only a few songs in the movie, but each of them blends seamlessly into the core of the movie. After Amar Akbar Anthony, this is the movie that made me laugh for Prithvi's comedy sequences, even though some scenes didn't quite hit the mark. The combination scenes of Siju Sunny and Safboy also worked for me; their screen presence always excited me throughout the movie. I would like to add Joemon's epic performance as well. However, the Yogi Babu scene didn't work for me personally. I was laughing out loud for about 60% of the movie, but after that, it didn't go as smoothly. After all, it's a great watch in the theatre if you enjoy comedy entertainers.

A Comedy Allrounder
ajaymohan-1724016 May 2024
One of the best comedy pack entertainer from Basil Joseph after his Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey movie performance.

From a hardcore Malayalam movie industry fan, I am from North of India, I would always say, Malayalam Movies > Bollywood Movies.

I am not revealing any spoilers here, just watch the movie and enjoy guys!!

As always, Pritviraj did a great job, I also watched his Goat Life movie which was absolutely stunning. Furthermore, this is a different genre, still his performance was out of the league.

If you guys don't have any movie to watch (yeah, as usual no movies from Bollywood industry lol), you can with confidence go watch this movie in theatre and this won't disappoint you!

One time watch...
paulsonmta17 May 2024
Warning: Spoilers
Directed by Vipin Das, Guruvayur Ambalanadayail is the latest film produced by Supriya Menon, Mukesh Mehta and Sarathi C V for Prithviraj Productions. It is a comdey oriented family movie.

Mr. Vinu, working in Dubai was in love with Parvathi, and she married to Anand due to situational circumstances. Saddened by Parvati's cheating, Vinu decides not to marry anyone. But his friend Kunjunni and Anand compelled Vinu and he agreed to marry after 5 years. Unaware that Vinu's girlfriend was his own wife, Anand fixes his sister to Vinu. Since Vinu and Parvati met, Vinu does a lot to back off from the wedding. Parvati tells everything to Anjali. But after understanding the situation Anjali convinced Vinu and he agreed to marry Anjali. At the end of the first half, Anand also realizes this truth. Since then Anand tried a lot to call off this wedding and Vinu is trying to make it happen. All Cat and mouse war presented in a very interesting and fun filled way. About the cast - Basil as Vinu, Prithvi as Anand, Anaswara as Anjali, Nikhila as Parvathi.

Basil Joseph, Prithviraj and Anaswara are the central characters. Nikhila Vimal is Prithviraj's heroine and also the most important character in this movie. However, as the screen presence was less, we cannot call her a heroine if this film. One of the most beautiful scenes in the movie was the walking of Prithviraj holding Nikhila's hand through the very busy Guruvayoor temple. Such an awesome Cinematography backed by excellent costume in Typical Kerala style. I must say this is a film where there are very few opportunities for women to perform. But all excelled in their own funny scenes.

First half is better than second half. The climax was too messed up and could have been done a little better. After a long time, the Priyadarshan-model funny fight scene at the wedding stage was seen in a movie. If you ask the validity of such a scenes in such a busy Guruvayur temple, tell your mind that this is a movie.

Basil proved that he can dance with humor. Prithviraj played comedy, conflict and anger with his talent. The others were also very good in their roles. The performances of Tamil comedian Yogi, Akhil Kavalayoor and Ashwin Vijayan were also very enjoyable. Similarly, Guruvayoorappan came in the form of a drone camera and opportunely presented dialogues in the famous film like Nandanam and Drishyam was also nice.

Kandittu prethyech onnum thonniyilla, saare! [+44%]
arungeorge1318 May 2024
I've never been bowled over by Deepu Pradeep's scripts - Kunjiramayanam was saved by a 10-minute Biju Menon intervention, Padmini was certainly an odd one, and The Priest was meh. I understand his and director Vipin Das' intention to create a colorful wedding entertainer like in the '90s, but with a premise this interesting and such a talented cast, one simply expects the output to be FAR, FAR BETTER. The music, for starters, is mostly a disappointment. And that's coming from someone who enjoyed Ankit Menon's work in Jaya Jaya Jaya Hey. The writing lets us in on an early twist (which is fairly nonsensical, to begin with) and then proceeds to stretch this one idea into a 2h 10m conflict with flat developments and a flat finish. I didn't find the use of Azhagiya Laila or the Drishyam dialogues to be that funny; maybe, it managed to generate mild chuckles.

I often wonder why the Priyadarshan entertainers of the '80s, '90s, and early 2000s work the way they do, even on an Nth rewatch. Yes, they often came from the smart brains of either a peak Sreenivasan, VR Gopalakrishnan, or Priyadarshan himself. They were beautifully packaged to suit our Malayali sensibilities, with fantastic songs, dance numbers, and a consistent supply of rollicking humor. A film like Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil aspires for the same, and it does seem like it has its share of happy takers. That said, I don't think anything or anyone in the film particularly stood out - including Basil Joseph (who's usually fun in his relatable, relaxed avatar but not quite the case here), Prithviraj (who still struggles in situational comedies), Nikhila Vimal (what a waste; she could've been the real difference-maker here if the writing was better), and Anaswara Rajan (who makes for an absolutely dashing bride, but the character sketch is so puerile). The Guruvayoor temple set design, however, was well done (+1 pt for the obvious Nandanam reference.

Even though the film boasts some reliable names in the supporting cast (like Jagadeesh, Baiju, Siju Sunny, Saafboi, Yogi Babu, and more), none of them get any memorable LOL scenes. It all boils down to bland writing that fails to extract the full potential of an organically funny premise. Vipin Das better get back to his own drawing board, as even from a directorial perspective, I couldn't find many creative decisions worth raving about. I wish folks didn't start branding this the new gold standard for humor featuring a large ensemble. Go and re-watch Vettam for the 78,463rd time, please.

P. S. I'm very clearly in the minority here, and that's OKAY!

Entertaining at the start but gets stale towards the end. Warning: Spoilers
  • "Guruvaayoor Ambalanadayil" directed by Vipin Das (Jaya Jaya.. Hey fame) starring Prithviraj, Basil Joseph , Anaswara rajan , Nikhila Vimal and an ensemble cast is fun at times and also disappointing at times . The film was a hit and a miss for me. I loved the first half but that was the entire film. My biggest complain about the film is that it tells the entire story and what is going to happen next in the first half itself making it predictable. The humour in the first half really lands with an exceptional combo of Basil and Prithvi. They have both nailed it , they were brillaint. Performance wise everyone was good , no complaints there and the score by Ankit Menon , the editing by John Kutty , the art department who created the guruvaayoor temple set which looked exactly like the real guruvayoor temple , these departments were the real highlights of the film. Overall the film is decent, it is watchable and enjoyable at times but I got a little disappointed about how the film went after the first half.

Ootha Film with valicha comedy
nigil-5014822 May 2024
This is just another ootha film from Prvtviraj with valicha(wrotten) comedies. Waste of time and money.

Alcohol promotion is unnecessary and this film should have got A rating.

Basil Joseph could be good director, but he now repeating same act in all films and similar ilicha characters.

For wrotten stupid comedy lovers, this is worth watch. Otherwise this is below average film. More PR work than actually what the film is. People are following the herd.

Honest request, do not watch in theaters. When it releases in OTT, have a casual watch, with some fast forward when you want. Not even a one time watch.

Clean Entertainer
aji4u4ever24 May 2024
First of all I need to say that I've got what I expected!

A clean entertainer with full on slapstick comedy. The movie based on a wafer thin plot but overcame with the performances of the lead characters and the comedy. For me, the comedy was completely worked out.

Prithviraj delivered a decent performance where as Basil Joseph was with his typical acting, but the duo performed well all in all. Jeomon Jyothir was outstanding with his character, his dialogue delivery and acting was top-notch. Siju Sunny, Yogi Babu, Jagadeesh all did well. The heroines Anaswara and Nikhila Vimal doesn't have much to do. The camerawork was okayish. The songs and background score doesn't impress me much however K for Krishna was good.

Vipin Das's forth directorial venture after the extra ordinary Jaya Jaya Jaya He didn't go in vain. He excelled in creating the comedy sequences.

All in whole a clean entertainer where you can enjoy in theaters.

Rating 7.5 on 10.

Laughter Only Laughter... Classic Entertainer

*** Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil ( In Front of Guruvayoor Temple ) Malayalam Movie Review ***

Directed by Vipin Das starring Prithviraj Sukumaran Basil Joseph Anaswara Rajan Nikhila Vimal in lead role.

*** A total Fun Ride Movie ***

Director Vipin Das from telling a social message in his earlier movie Jaya Jaya Jaya Hein , here he brings out the entertainer movie which we might have seen in a Priyadarshan, Siddique - Lal movies.

Prithviraj Sukumaran's fabulous performance backed by Basil Jospeh's effortless performance. 👍👍👍

A story of two brother in law, about their immense love towards each other and suddenly becoming the biggest enemy of all time, director Vipin Das & writer Deepu Pradeep beautifully showcased the unusual bromance. 👌👌👌👌

An engaging and fun climax moment.

Proper blending of songs with the sequence 👌👌👌

Overall another blockbuster on the bucket of Malayalam Film Industry.

Family entertainer
freethinkerkl24 May 2024
It's a family entertainer. No dirty jokes or obscene scenes or violence. A must watch with your family. Very different from the current stream of black movies that has plagued the Malayalam industry. It's very light on the emotions (does not strain you) and very fast moving. There is no dull moment and always something is happening in the movie.

The only defect (if it is) is the Priyadarshan touch in the climax. But your kids will enjoy it. There are flaws in the second half. Still, it's worth watching.

Love broken Basil is engaged with Anaswara (Prithvi's sister). The two to be brother in law's are in very good terms. Later too many things happen in their lives which leads to a comedy of errors culminating in a happy ending.

Only to pass the time.
fLick-IX19 May 2024
You can read this review if you're searching for a logical analysis of the comments rather than just one person's viewpoint. Depending on your point of view, Guruvayoor Ambalanadayil may or may not be a funny movie. However, this little story does not allow one to see changes over time.

Some of the lead characters are unable to stand in their roles because of the direction, and the performers are not involved in multiple situations. Perhaps this is a result of their ignorance of their respective parts in this script. Such errors on a large screen can be the result of a poor screenplay.

Several highly skilled performers appear in this movie, however they don't even interact with the characters or participate in the scenes as the screenplay requires. We find ourselves laughing at some very funny conversations, but we also consider whether it's worth watching again.

If the script calls for songs and choreography, then there shouldn't be any criticism because this portion is quite dull.

The location set was excellent; the finest artwork. And who operated the drone during the film's conclusion?

It's also unclear why the excellent film NANDANAM was referenced in this unreliable screenplay.

But if people prefer these kinds of trash called "movies," they will never take any review into consideration.

First disaster of 2024 - Not at all worth the hype
appusnikhil23 May 2024
I successfully wasted my valuable time watching this stupid movie. Vipin Das, you have made a disaster this time. I never expected a talented director is gonna pull something like this on the big screen.

A few comedies were alright but apart from that, there is nothing much in the movie. Prithviraj has improved a lot and that was reflected through his humorous dialogues. Basil is the same as usual. Anaswara was superb throughout.

The final scenes which lead to the climax are some of the worst movie portions I have ever watched and there was no need for many portions in the second half.

Please watch with no expectations and then there is a possibility of getting a Biriyani.

Interesting plot, Super engaging, Not a dull moment!
abhinavmarla2 June 2024
Overall it's a fun watch. Most of the jokes land. The way the characters behave is believable and the plot is interesting.

As a viewer, I connected to every character because their intentions were made super clear and I was looking forward to see how the events will unfold. The performances were good and every actor tried to bring out humor in each scene without trying too hard. I especially liked Nikhila Vimal's (Parvathy) performance. She did most of the acting with her face, without having many dialogues.

The dialogues were good. The cinematography was like any Malayalam movie. It really puts you among the characters. The BGM was loud which is justified due to the hyper realistic nature of the movie but I felt it could have been toned down a bit.

Towards the end, there is a Happy song with all the characters in the movie. I think the movie could have done without it. Some of the characters break their characters during the song.

Coming to the flaws, while the initial setup was done nicely it could have arrived at the conflict point faster.

Given that the entire movie converges towards the marriage with two parties fighting each other, the chemistry between the leads was not satisfactory. Nivu feels affectionate towards Anjali and we as the audience should just believe that. Anjali is a mere spectator to all this. It could have been written better

All in all, the movie does justice to the genre and does a good job at entertaining the audience while presenting an engaging story. Another thing to liken is how self aware the makers were about the movie's imperfections. The movie itself begins with how hard it is to pronounce the title :) As someone who is not a malayali, I had a grin on my face!

Good Film
anandkoovaka28 May 2024
Good Film. Must watch it from theatre. Basil joseph (vinu) acting excellent. Full comedy family entertainer. It has many to laugh and much more to think . Big thanks to all the people's worked behind this movie. All go watch in theatre and comment down the review below. It is a family movie. First half is full comedy. Second half begins little lag but after some time it came again in the comedy track. Final climax is also made entertaining. In aadujeevitham , prithwiraj made me cry. But in this movie, he made us laugh. Everyone says he can't do comedy. But he proved wrong. This is a best movie.

Falls short of expectations.
chand-suhas29 May 2024
Vinu is engaged to Anjali and is very close to her brother Anandan. They have formed such a close bonding without meeting each other in person that Anandan has been helping Vinu get over his ex-girlfriend. Meanwhile, Anandan's marriage too is going through a rough phase and Vinu in return, gets Anandan to bring back his wife and child home. Just days before the marriage Vinu arrives from Dubai to get married, only to realize Anandan's wife is none other than his ex-girlfriend. What happens when both these men try to sabotage the wedding and their ways to stop the wedding further complicates things, forms rest of the story.

The plot is quite decent foe a mad cap comedy film but the fun here seems to end pre-interval itself. Up until then, both Prithviraj and Basil Joseph keep the show running with enough fun moments and the same elevated by the remixed version of Azhagiya Laila song. However, the pace drops considerably pre-interval and the writing instead chooses to go further down in the second half. The two songs in the second half simply adds to the runtime and the rushed climax fails to generate the intended humor. It is not how silly the scenes get that pulls down the film but it is the weak writing in the second half that tries to handle too many characters together, backfires.

Feels average, with forced comic scenes and poor song choreograph.l
maneshkumar-4798625 May 2024
The movie feels average, with forced comic scenes and poor song choreography. It's better suited for OTT platforms rather than theaters. The climax scene at Guruvayoor is chaotic and overly long, while unnecessary stunts are irritating. Mixing "Azigiya Laila" with "Nandanam" songs and references feels disjointed. The abundance of characters detracts from the central storyline. Prithviraj's attempts at comedic dialogue delivery, especially referencing "Nandanam," come off as cringey.

Basil Joseph could be good director, but he now repeating same act in all films and similar ilicha characters.

For wrotten stupid comedy lovers, this is worth watch. Otherwise this is below average film.

Not worthy of watching in the theatre!
geethunair-6250622 May 2024
Average movie. Tried too hard for the comic scenes. The songs and choreography were very bad. It is not a theatre worthy movie. Good for OTT. The climax scene at guruvayoor set was too chaotic and extremely long and the unnecessary stunt scene was irritating. In the first half, they used "azigiya Laila" bgm and in the second half they used nandanam movie songs n references. Instead they could have stuck with just nandanam songs. Too many characters for a story revolving around just 4 characters. Through out the movie prithviraj was trying too hard to make his dialogue delivery comic especially the nandanam movie dialogue by prithviraj in the end, but sadly it came out cringey.

Cheap Meaningless Comedy
ajaycfg5 June 2024
I cannot understand:

How this movie became a hit? For there is absolutely nothing to hold your attention after the premise is set.

Why does Basil - a young man holding a good job in the middle east and belonging to a good family - refuse to get married just because he was jilted by a girl once?! Isn't that part of growing up? You meet a girl in school/college but in most cases the marriage doesnt happen because girls are married off quite early in our society - by which time the boy is usually not employed or settled to marry her?

Why doesn't he simply explain the real reason for his inability to marry the chosen girl, to his would-be brother-in-law, instead of making a big song and dance about it?

Why does Malayalam movies showcase on-screen drinking so much and so often. Practically every other scene involves drinking? Are they being sponsored by the liquor lobby?

There are too many things wrong with this movie. Too many characters. Too thin storyline. Too many sub-plots. Too much drinking.

Not exactly a sensible movie from the famed Malayalam movie industry.
