10. A Good Day To Be A Dog (2023–Now)
Let’s stop and think logically for a second. Say, we have a young woman who’s cursed to turn into a dog each time someone kisses her. Who would be the worst possible person to fall in love with her — and try to break her curse? Of course, a man who’s absolutely terrified of dogs! Now, that will be a journey to remember…
9. Welcome to Samdal-ri (2023–Now)
Sometimes, falling from grace is the best thing that can happen to you — if you have the right attitude, that is. A popular fashion photographer loses everything and returns to her hometown, and this changes her life. Because there, she bumps into her childhood friend, and their relationship rekindles, developing into something else.

K-drama lovers old and new have united in their love for the Netflix original My Demon. The show, which stars Song Kang and Kim Yoo-Jung in leading roles, has been at the top of the charts ever since it started airing in December. We’ve all got to figure out what we can do to fill the void that’s going to be left behind by the show. The show follows an immortal demon, Gu-Won, and the woman who leads to him losing his powers in a story of past lives and love. As the show progressed, we slowly learned about how Gu-Won became a demon and found Do-Hee. Gu-Won’s story begins with his past human life as Seo Yi-Sun. Yi-Sun’s life began in luxury, as he belonged to the family of a nobleman. Yi-Sun was never one to care for formalities, though. He simply wanted to explore...

It appears My Demon is more traditional than one could ever imagine. The penultimate episode of the show is even more teary and dramatic than we could’ve imagined. With only one episode left, we are left with the question, “Will Do-Hee and Gu-Won ever get their happy ending?” Episode 15 will also have old K-drama fans overexcited because a particular scene plays out almost identically to one from Gong Yoo and Kim Go-Eun’s Goblin. Episode 14 of My Demon was rather pleasant after it was assumed that No Suk-Min was dead. However, at the end of the episode, when Gu-Won has the full picture of his relationship with Do-Hee, he decides to leave her, so she doesn’t have to suffer any longer. Now, Do-Hee needs to cope with the absence of the love of her life, when earlier all she wished for was to be alone. Let’s quickly...

The K-drama world has been taken by the storm that is Netflix’s My Demon. The show is the perfect blend of old-school fantasy tropes and modern K-drama trends, making it exactly right for both old fans and new ones. Many called 2023 the year of K-drama redemption thanks to shows like My Demon, which are loved by all. I suppose it is true in some ways because many who had stopped watching Korean dramas started watching them again because of a sense of nostalgia and fun that the new shows brought with them. Netflix has in many ways hijacked the industry, and for the most part, they have a specific type of K-dramas that work on the platform; however, in 2023, we’ve seen them bring in more and more shows in the Netflix original category that venture into the typical K-drama atmosphere. My Demon is reminiscent of the old fantasy...

My Demon was all fluffy and cheesy up until one episode ago, and now we’re veering into dramatic territory. Last week, we learned all about Gu-Won’s past life. Before killing himself, he vowed not to go to heaven because the god he believed in took away the love of his life. This is how he became the great demon that he is presently. Gu-Won and Do-Hee’s relationship is stronger than ever, because at the end of episode 12 of My Demon, Gu-Won promises to himself that he will prevent Do-Hee from suffering because of him, unlike in his past life. However, he is in for some surprises. As God said to him, history always repeats itself. Will Gu-Won be able to give Do-Hee the happiness she deserves? What is his big connection with her life? And what is Suk-Min up to?

Is the best part about watching reality TV the derailment of somebody’s character because they weren’t actually the G.O.A.T they assumed they were? Maybe. It is quite unfortunate that one of the most entertaining members of the cast got left behind in season 3 of Single’s Inferno, but at least we know she had fun! For the rest, though, we saw it coming for sure. Although I will admit, it would’ve been nice to see Gwan-Hee stay back in the fiery pit, but alas, this is a show for the masses, and I may not be a parttaker. Single’s Inferno season 3 had four successful couples, which left four singles behind in the Inferno. The couples were mostly anticipated by viewers, except when it came to Gwan-Hee, where there was a little bit of confusion. As someone who is watching this show for the first time,...

Based on how similar K-dramas are every year, one could imagine that there’s a mandate handed out at the beginning of each year that everyone should follow. What else can explain the similarities between them? Take, for example, all the shows in the last year that have used the traditional fireworks scene. Or all the shows that have taken their protagonists to Thailand? Obviously, I’m a conspiracy theorist; however, it is a bit tedious to see the same thing happen over and over again, even if it includes a different pair of faces. While My Demon started off a little bit unique (as unique as it can get with a demon involved), it’s now simmered down to the same old thing we’ve seen 100 times. I suppose if you’ve got two of the hottest stars on your show, anything works, right? Personally, I don’t think so; however,...

Netflix’s My Demon is the talk of the town this winter season. The fantasy drama stars two huge names, Song Kang and Kim Yoo-Jung, in the leading roles of a 200-year-old demon and the human he falls in love with. From expensive luxury outfits to lavish localities and the visuals of the leading couple, the show screams “popular schoolkid.” Seeing as the show is the season’s biggest trend, fans are waiting with bated breath for the next episode. Unfortunately, the K-drama has been postponed by a week by Sbs as the network plans on airing the year-end drama award show, “2023 Sbs Drama Awards,” this weekend. Of course, this has left fans devastated, as it’s already a struggle waiting for weekly episodes. Now we meet our favorite demon and his wife in the new year on the 5th and 6th of January.

There was no shortage of quality Korean shows to watch this year. From mystery thrillers and classic dramas to riveting reality series and heart-fluttering romances, 2023 was truly the year K-content ruled the roost. More recent releases like 1940s historical thriller, Gyeonseong Creature, with Park Seo-joon (The Marvels) and Han Soo-hee (My Name), and the latest season of horror drama favorite, Sweet Home, prove the momentum isn’t dying down anytime soon as we head into 2024.

After watching episode 10 of My Demon, if someone said it would end in another two episodes, I’d be convinced. The villains have been revealed, the main conflict has been resolved, and the power couple is more in love than ever before. What more can you want from a show titled My Demon? Supposedly, a lot more. The show has subverted the typical K-drama trait of being all fun and exciting up until episode 14, before things suddenly go downhill for one episode and get rushed in the finale. The show takes a drastic and unexpected turn of events in episodes 9 and 10, ending in a rather satisfying manner for the lead couple. Of course, there are many conflicts yet to be resolved.

My Demon has been going quite smoothly up until now, but the latest two episodes have taken an unexpected dramatic turn. We can imagine that, apart from having a stunning cast, the show is also quite popular because it uses the old-school K-drama formula of mixing fantasy with slapstick comedy in order to deliver a secretly emotional love story that will leave you yearning for more. Obviously, a lot of time is spent in admiration for the perfect faces of the two leads. No, really, the amount of close-ups can compete with that of Scarlet Heart Ryeo. Up until now, Gu-Won has been steering clear of his feelings for Do Do-Hee, but with the events of the latest episode, that has changed drastically too.

Song Kang is on a mission to prove that he can do it all in one month. Although you can say his roles in Sweet Home and My Demon both have a gray quality to them, they’re obviously drastically different in all other aspects. In My Demon, we get to see a more goofy and comical side to him that we haven’t seen before, and surely we must rejoice because of these fashion choices and the fact that he’s actually presentable (Hyun-Su could never). In the first two episodes of My Demon, it was established that even though Gu-Won is an actual demon, Do Do-Hee is as demonic in her human form. Turns out, it wasn’t much of a challenge at all.
“Squid Game: The Challenge” dominated Netflix’s overall leaderboard in its debut week, when it drew 20.1 million views. The unscripted competition series picked up where the I.P. left off in 2021, bumping Part 1 of “The Crown’s” sixth season to second place (8.8 million views) for the week of November 20, 2023.
“Squid Game: The Challenge,” filmed in the UK, is an English-language series; Og “Squid Game” was a Korean-language series dubbed into local languages. As such, the scripted show technically rests atop Netflix’s “Non-English” list, though it blows away all the English-language stuff anyway.
“The Challenge” was so big it brought “Squid Game” back to the Global Top 10 for non-english series — at no. 6 with 1.6 million views — its 21st appearance. The scripted show hadn’t made the list since the week ending June 19, 2022. The long Thanksgiving holiday weekend sure helped the streams pile up.

My Demon is turning out to be quite funny and has some surprisingly real moments in its absurd plot. That is a very common K-drama trait as it is, but this show is looking to be more interesting than the description made it out to be. Additionally, we all love a good old-fashioned enemies-to-lovers K-drama with a simple plot and lots of swoon-worthy moments (King the Land being the biggest example of the year). It doesn’t hurt that the show doesn’t hesitate to have entire scenes of just Song Kang and Kim You-Jung’s perfect faces, and the fashion is, as always, impeccable. It’s nice to see a rich female lead for once (I’m glad that’s changing). Episode 1 of My Demon ended with Gu-Won and Do-Hee drowning but later waking up on a beach somewhere. It’s finally the day; the Korean entertainment industry has blessed us with the highly anticipated drama My Demon. Visual charm aside, this show does give off the same feeling as Goblin or The Tale of the Nine-Tailed in terms of incorporating strange fantastical creatures into the modern world. Both of those shows did incredibly well because, apart from being about mythical creatures, they also had interesting plots and kept us watching from start to finish. Of course, we can’t deny that star power is an added bonus for all of these shows, and My Demon is not lacking there either. The first episode is as slap-stick and absurd as one can imagine, but at least we’ve got a female character with a mind of her own (woot!).

Netflix has its A-game on when it comes to Korean dramas, as it releases a new fantastic show, or at least, an addicting one, on a weekly basis. Recently, we’ve had some gems like Doona, Castaway Diva, and A Time Called You that have been loved by audiences and critics alike. Now, it’s finally time for the highly anticipated Song Kang and Kim You-Jung-starring K-drama My Demon to have us on our knees begging for mercy. Alright, this is a very unserious statement, but everyone’s just so excited to be taken in by this girlboss-demon combination that we can’t help but imagine it’s going to be a super hit even if it manages to bring nothing new to the table. People are already screaming about the “face cards” these two very attractive actors are bringing to the show, which is reason enough to give it a go.
