"There is no future but what we make for ourselves" — the guiding principle of the Terminator franchise. Unfortunately, the real-life principle has largely amounted to, "There is no future but what Hollywood makes for the rest of us." This is one of those franchises where studios have rebooted, soft-rebooted, legacy-sequeled, and generally mangled what was once an innovative and interesting storyline into an incomprehensible mess — to the point that the saga's main star, Arnold Schwarzenegger, is now done with the franchise.
It's a sad state of affairs for this once great sci-fi story. Still, there's hope as long as creator James Cameron harbors a desire to make another Terminator movie based on A.I. For the time being, though, we're left with what has become an unnecessarily complicated Terminator timeline, leaving anyone trying to figure out the correct order to watch the Terminator movies confused. There were many reasons why The Walt Disney Company merged with 21st Century Fox, with the rights to the Fantastic Four and X-Men franchises a small, yet crucial part of the $71.3 billion deal.
Marvel Studios will release The Fantastic Four reboot next year and recently found a writer for its take on the X-Men. While the quality of Fox's Marvel movies fell off a cliff with the likes of Dark Phoenix and The New Mutants, the studio also produced more than a few critical and commercial hits.
Fox had plenty of bold ideas for the Marvel characters it held the rights to before Marvel Studios pulled the plug on them. In this feature, we're revisiting the most intriguing, exciting, and sometimes awful-sounding projects which, in another timeline, you may have watched in a theater by now.

Terminator Zero is all set to take us back into the world of Skynet, this time in the form of an anime series. Despite being set in the universe created by the legendary filmmaker James Cameron in 1984, the upcoming Netflix show will present a new take on the popular franchise.
A still from Terminator Zero
Following the renowned Arnold Schwarzenegger 1984 film, Terminator has spawned several movies, series, and video games. However, the franchise has seen a steady decline in its popularity over time with some of the worst films like Genisys and Salvation.
Several fans hoped that the upcoming series might use its classic time-travel trope to give justice to the underwhelming Terminator films in some ways. Unfortunately, such a thing is now impossible as the showrunner revealed that Terminator Zero will not mess with the canon in any way.
Will Terminator Zero affect the existing Terminator films? Christian Bale...

To say the Terminator timeline is pretty confusing at this point would be an understatement. The franchise, created with the release of James Cameron's seminal 1984 effort "The Terminator," has since been softly rebooted, retconned, and generally mishandled by successive generations of studios and filmmakers. So twisted is the saga's internal timeline that watching the "Terminator" movies in any kind of coherent order has become a challenge not unlike trying to destroy the T-800 himself.
Prior to the release of 2019's "Terminator: Dark Fate," things seemed to be looking up. With the help of James Cameron on producing duties, director Tim Miller decided to forget the three lackluster films that followed the modern classic that is 1991's "Terminator 2: Judgement Day" and simply pick up where that stellar entry in the franchise left off. Unfortunately, when "Dark Fate" debuted we were treated to yet another generic action blockbuster that put...

Linda Hamilton will be making an appearance in the upcoming Stranger Things, which poetically takes place in the era when she catapulted to fame thanks to The Terminator. Her defining performance as Sarah Connor sealed her in pop culture as one of the best sci-fi characters of all time. However, even though she would make a return to the series with the sequel Terminator: Dark Fate, Hamilton has definitively stated that she is no longer interested in reprising her iconic character.
The Beauty and the Beast TV show star recently sat down with The Hollywood Reporter to talk about her projects. It was inevitably asked if she would come back for another round with the cybernetic organism when they inquired what was more likely: an AI-written Terminator sequel or her reprising the role of Sarah Connor. Hamilton answered, “AI writing the next Terminator movie. And they kill me off before we start.

The long-gestating sci-fi remake of Fantastic Voyage, which could pair James Cameron with Guillermo del Toro, is still on the cards, according to the Avatar director.
According to James Cameron, his long-gestating remake of Fantastic Voyage is still happening. That in itself is newsworthy given how long Cameron has been talking about this project. Arnold Schwarzenegger has accomplished a fair bit in his life. Ho ho ho, movie lovers! The Oscars are officially in the rearview mirror and Daylight Savings just robbed us of an hour of sleep, but we're apparently fast-forwarding through the spring and summer fun to skip ahead to the holiday season with this latest bit of news. And, no, you're not prepared for what this is about.
Deadline has the scoop on a project that might as well be a throwback to the "No rules, anything goes" heyday of the nineties, in terms of both casting and premise. In a casting report that's sure to dwarf any others in size, weight, and muscles alone, we now know that none other than action superstar (and hilarious Academy Awards presenter) Arnold Schwarzenegger is teaming up with "Reacher" actor Alan Ritchson for a family holiday movie titled "The Man With The Bag." The project comes from director Adam Shankman with a script written by Allan Rice.

Arnold Schwarzenegger is set to return to the holiday genre with Amazon MGM Studios’ The Man With the Bag.
Adam Shankman is directing the family Christmas comedy that will see Schwarzenegger star alongside Alan Ritchson, whose involvement was previously announced. Allan Rice wrote the script for the movie that counts Ritchson, Lawrence Grey, Ben Everard, Reg Tigerman and Dan Spilo as producers.
The Man With the Bag centers on Santa Claus learning that his magic bag has been swiped, leading Old St. Nick to team up with Vance, a reformed thief and denizen of the naughty list, to get it back. The duo also enlist Vance’s daughter and a team of misfit elves to help them save Christmas.
Schwarzenegger, who captivated Oscar viewers over the weekend by reuniting with Twins cohort Danny DeVito, stars on the Netflix action-comedy series Fubar, which is set to return for its second season.

The Terminator franchise has spent the last thirty years chasing the high of the first two movies, and Linda Hamilton thinks it’s time to finally let it die.
Linda Hamilton starred in The Terminator and Terminator 2: Judgment Day as Sarah Connor and later returned for Terminator: Dark Fate, but she is not interested in reprising the role for any further potential reboots. “I’m done. I’m done. I have nothing more to say,” Hamilton told Business Insider. “The story’s been told, and it’s been done to death.“
Hamilton added: “Why anybody would relaunch it is a mystery to me. But I know our Hollywood world is built on relaunches right now.“
Related Linda Hamilton says Stranger Things season 5 will be filming for an entire year
Arnold Schwarzenegger shared a similar sentiment last year but believes that the franchise can continue, just not with his involvement.

Just one week after it was announced that Foundation would resume filming after some issues involving budgetary and production concerns, the Apple TV+ sci-fi series has hit yet another snag, as co-creator David S. Goyer is stepping down from showrunner duties for the third season.
While Goyer will still be “creatively involved”, his position is being relegated to executive producer Bill Bost, although Goyer himself will still receive credit on Foundation. This may reasonably raise concerns for those who have been loyal to Foundation, as such a shakeup may point to even more significant behind-the-scenes problems, especially since it had previously been revealed that Goyer wouldn’t be directing any episodes of the third season, having helmed three episodes of the show’s first 20. One could possibly begin to deduce that these mounting issues may see even less involvement from Goyer, whose screenwriting credits include writing Batman Begins, Man of Steel and Terminator: Dark Fate.

John Connor is dead. Sadly, Terminator: Dark Fate killed the legacy character without his death having any true substance to the overall plot. In actuality, there’s nothing wrong with killing off John Connor. It creates a nice layer of unpredictability and opens the scope to tell different stories based on the impact of John’s demise. However, John was killed like he was a worthless extra. James Cameron himself has confirmed the return of Terminator. There’s been no date set nor is the upcoming film’s script done. However, the Oscar-winning filmmaker assured fans that he’s writing another entry into the long-running...

Linda Hamilton has played Sarah Connor since 1984’s The Terminator but won’t be returning for another film. More on her comments below.
We’ve known for a while now that James Cameron is keen on writing another Terminator film. Last May, Cameron appeared at a Dell Technologies conference and revealed he is indeed working on a new Terminator script, but has paused work on it while he observed how real-world AI develops.
A new Terminator film would be exciting (potentially), but it would have to happen without Linda Hamilton.
The star, who has played Sarah Connor, the mother of John Connor, in three feature films, recently told Business Insider that she has no plans to return to the role that made her name almost 40 years ago.
“I’m done,” Hamilton said. “I’m done. I have nothing more to say. The story’s been told, and it’s been done to death.

When Arnold Schwarzenegger delivered the now legendary line, "I'll be back," in 1984's "The Terminator," no one could have known how true that statement would prove to be. Arnie was indeed back, and back, and back, and back, and back again, proving that the only thing as relentless as the T-800 is Hollywood's desire to pump out sequel after sequel.
Thankfully, we at least got one classic of the action genre out of it: 1991's "Terminator 2: Judgment Day." After delivering a masterpiece of low-budget sci-fi filmmaking in '84, director James Cameron proved why he's the king of sequels with the 1991 follow-up. "T2" outdid its predecessor in almost every way, blending impeccable action set pieces with an overwhelming sense of doom that made the film linger in the mind long after viewing.
After that, the films continued without Cameron, and not only was there a marked drop in quality with...

Filming on “The Last of Us” Season 2 will soon be underway and the cast continues to grow this week with the addition of Isabela Merced (Dora and the Lost City of Gold).
Variety reports that Merced will play The Last of Us Part II video game character Dina in Season 2 of the HBO series, who was the girlfriend of Ellie in the video game sequel.
“Dina is warm, brilliant, wild, funny, moral, dangerous and instantly lovable,” said series co-creators Craig Mazin and Neil Druckmann. “You can search forever for an actor who effortlessly embodies all of those things, or you can find Isabela Merced right away. We couldn’t be prouder to have her join our family.”
Dina is described as “a free-wheeling spirit whose devotion to Ellie will be tested by the brutality of the world they inhabit.”
The cast for Season 2 also includes Kaitlyn Dever as Abby and Young Mazino as Jesse.

HBO’s “The Last of Us” has excelled in many departments thus far, but the show’s casting deserves special mention. Bella Ramsey turned out to be the perfect Ellie despite fans wondering if she was the right fit for the role, for starters, and the outside-the-box casting continues for Season 2. Kaitlyn Dever (No One Will Save You) will play Abby in Season 2!
Entertainment Weekly broke the news this afternoon, and they also shared a statement from “The Last of Us” creator Craig Mazin. “Our casting process for Season 2 has been identical to Season 1: we look for world-class actors who embody the souls of the characters in the source material,” Mazin tells Entertainment Weekly. “Nothing matters more than talent, and we’re thrilled to have an acclaimed performer like Kaitlyn join Pedro, Bella, and the rest of our family.”
