Little Ray, big Ray and baby Gumball made this ep.
imakk200131 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Routh and Fisher (the kid who played little Ray) were an amazing tandem, bringing the vulnerability of a lonely childhood, the strength to keep believing in the good of others, and the undeniable sadness of losing your first friend. They and Gumball brought the teary eyes. As a homage to ET, I don't think Spielberg would have any complaints.

Not sure if those 4 nameless agents were from the Time Bureau or not, but their end scene was yet another LoT original: doing the Good Morning number from Singing in the Rain all the while looking slightly bewildered. I sure wasn't expecting it. And it worked!

Martin, Jax and Mick's plot B was just as endearing. Though how Martin could think that Jax or any one else would stand in his way?! Good thing Mick was in on this, because no way Jax and Martin would think of leaving in the middle of a mission.

Everyone got their moments and none of it felt like a list being checked off. Mick approving of little Ray's theft, Nate almost knocking boots with mom-inator, Amaya's and Sara' homages to Aliens, Martin becoming a granddaddy (and saying Clarissa's name! Seriously, I thought she got erased she's been such a non-appearance), all worked as individual moments and as part of the overall story.

Score: 9.2

But I call b.s. on the ship having only O.N.E. bathroom. Seriously!?

An Emotional Ride!!
rajab-531-194901 November 2017
It's hard to write a review without spoilers but I'll still try. This is my first review ever and this episode forced me to write one. After a slow start to the season, I was expecting this episode to increase the pace but instead they slowed it down and it didn't disappoint a bit.

This episode is an emotional roller- coaster. Starts off with some good laughs and will make you cry at the end. Young Ray Palmer's pet is so cute and adorable. In short nothing beats a family reunion and you get to see it twice in this episode. Enjoy!

Trick or Treat Legends
ThomasDrufke6 November 2017
These days I don't really care to watch Legends on time, and that's partly because I'm nowhere near as invested in the show or the Arrowverse as I was, say 2 years ago. I waited a full week to watch this week's Legends, and I'm surprisingly upset that I did. A Halloween episode was a neat idea and it was executed very well.

Having a younger version of one of the characters is nothing new to the show, almost every character has had some sort of interaction with an older or younger version of themselves. This week it was a young Ray Palmer that the team found themselves trying to save. Young Ray was in the middle of an E.T. plot as he adopted a young Dominator as his pet. Of course, it just had to be a young cute (actually really terrifying looking) who likes chocolate and doesn't know where his home is. Just as this show did an amazing tribute to Indiana Jones episode last year, this episode was also a nice nod to E.T. Heck, we even got to see a flying bicycle sequence.

The plot provided a lot of good character pairings. Zari and Ray/Young Ray was an especially good pairing. I figured they were sort of setting the two of them up to be romantic partners, but I think it's even more clear now. And you know what? I think I'm okay with it. Brandon Routh has been a steady character in terms of likability, but he's starting to fade with him increasingly getting more and more goofy. However, Tala Ashe has been incredibly good these last few episodes, so I thinks he can bring something new out of Ray if they end up going that route.

Perhaps the best thing about this episode is that it has a lot of heart. Young Ray was serviceable, but it was seeing the Legends play off of him that pulled at the heart-strings for sure. All in all, it's a fun Halloween episode that builds the Legends characters even without having an actual villain to mess around with them for a week.

Great Episode! BUT... Seriously?

Warning: Spoilers
My first Review ever! Amazing episode, 10/10 if they removed the Doc Martin part out of it, it just doesn't make sense... You're in a freaking time ship in 1988!! But in a hurry cause you're going to miss the birth of your grandson because it's happening "right now" in 2017...? And also you take the ship and manage to get right before the birth but the time you spend in 2017 its the same time they are waiting for the ship in 1988? Can't they arrive back right after the left?

What an episode!
michaelafamfulikova1 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
This episode was pretty emotional and funny in many aspects. It had some E.T. The Extraterrestrial references, and also Lord Of The Rings references. Younger Ray Palmer was cute, and so was the baby Dominator! I loved Mick here, honestly. His character is ripening every single episode a tad more! And, we had some tense moments between Jax and Martin, though as if the arguments did not happen, when these two and Mick meet at the maternity hospital Lily Stein, who just gave birth to baby Ronnie. I loved the nods to Singing in The Rain and Fiddler On The Roof musicals- I frankly was expecting in the former case Martin to hum along (which makes me add, that I hope Victor will get a chance to sing in Legends before he leaves). I would say this was the best episode of Legends this season so far.

Highlights of this episode: Boy Ray Palmer and the E.T references. The scale of emotions displayed by Martin Stein brilliantly portrayed as ever by Mr.Garber. Mick Rory and his beer passion and cracking jokes.

Woaahhh awesome costume!
hawkins_saints_rock2 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Well that was among the best episodes from Legends ever. Such an awesome episode to watch that had it all and executed it near perfectly. Also, this episode had some real emotion to it, which is not something that we get often from Legends as the writers like to keep the show fun and lighthearted, but the emotion worked well tonight.

So the main plot of the episode revolves around Ray, as back in 1988 when he was a kid he gets killed for harbouring a baby dominator. Loved seeing the dominators back, and I think they suit as Legends' villains perfectly. So the team work to obviously fix this so that Ray is still alive in 2017. This involves many things such as going to Ray's childhood home, and saving the dominators from the same dude (forget his name) who appeared in the 4-night crossover last season. And of course, this episode took place on Halloween.

The sub plot this week involved Stein going back to 2017 to see the birth of his granddaughter. This is usually something I wouldn't care for, but I found it to be a touching plot, especially when Mick and Jax decide that they'll take the wave rider back to 2017 just so Stein can be there to witness it. And the name of the baby is Ronnie, perfect. Despite there being a lot of emotion this week, we also had some laughs with the ET Easter egg, and Nate hooking up with the Mumma dominator haha!

On top of all this, I really enjoyed Zari's presence on the team. It's technically only the first episode she's been on the team, but she fits perfectly and I really like her character. Also are they leaning towards a romance between Zari and Ray?

But to my only dislike this week...Jax wanting to break up firestorm?!!! I love seeing firestorm on the show and honestly we don't see enough of him (them?). I understand why Jax wants to do this, but there's no firestorm without Stein.

Overall a great episode that ranks up there with Legends' best. Also how about that Delorean!

No Spoillers Here. Just a Flashback to Another Time.
hardingta-435572 November 2017
I burst out laughing when Zari asked who "Billy Jo-El" is. The only other time I heard that was from Les Nessman. Of course he also gave us: Chi Chi (rhymed it with High High) ROD re gez, and Bouncy (Beyonce) Knowles. So the references to ET and Back to the Future were not the only time-slips here. And they were enjoyed.

Back on Track!
Authoric17 October 2020
That's more like it! Freakshow (S03E02) was a mess... this is beginning to get back on track. This has really made me have a few giggles and be fully entertained. Definitely worth a watch! There we go!

(I guess any episode without the Time Bureau is a good one! 😉)

This is Cheating...
lassegalsgaard-4528421 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
Okay, somehow this show has found out how to get my attention. It is not by adding more well-known superheroes or by coming up with some incredible villain. No, it was by writing an episode that is based on my number one film of all time. "E.T. the Extra-Terrestrial" has a special place in my heart and continues to be my personal favorite film of all time. It has everything that you could ever want from a film, plus it is about the endying thing that is friendship. So, I feel like the writers may have heard my criticism of their past seasons and tried to buy my love by writing this episode. Now, of course that is not the reason why they made this episode, as The CW probably has no idea that I even exist, but I will say, that if this was some weak attempt to win over my love and in some twisted way getting me to have more respect for this show ... then it worked, because this was a really good episode that took the best aspects of the classic film and turned it into a very entertaining fun superhero episode.

First of all, I will start out by saying that the best thing about this episode is not the huge reference to "E.T.," but more the dynamic between the team. I have praised the chemistry between the characters ever since Season 1, and I loved how they were trying to make Zari feel more comfortable by doing some weird team-building exercise that Ray had planned out. I thought that was very funny, but it also added into the storyline of making Zari feel home with the team. I loved that she was constantly questioning what the Legends were doing and whether or not they thought that is was going to work. I love Zari's presence in this episode, and I hope the writers will continue the great character development they are currently doing with her.

This episode also gave some further development to Ray Palmer, something that I wasn't sure was going to work, because we have already learned so much about him. However, his story arc was the most heartwarming of the entire episode, plus it also had some very funny jokes and cultural reference. Whether it was the Billy Joel jokes, or the thing about Ray panicking that his younger self had become a bit of a rebellious child because of this alien that he had befriended.

This is also the first episode of the season to not feature the Time Bureau, so far. This episode proved that the show works a lot better without them, and that their presence in this show should be minimal. Through two seasons, the audience have loved to see the team screw up with their missions, but quickly turning things around and ending up saving the day. So to add this adversary group that does not make any sense to the continuity of the show was a horrible idea and something that I think was a mistake from the beginning. This episode just proved that they are better off without that stupid group.

And then, the "E.T." stuff ... I think they worked very well into this episode. I loved the relationship between that the younger Ray had with this child Dominator, that was created with some amazing CGI. Even though I don't think the actor they got to play the young Ray was that good, I still think he was able to sell this friendship, which is really hard to do for an actor when you are playing opposite a non-existing creature.

I only have a couple of negatives with this episode, and most of those surround the subplot involving Jax and Rory. They come to the conclusion that Dr. Stein is helping the Time Bureau, when all he is doing is communicating with his pregnant daughter. I thought that Jax and Rory was way too quick in drawing that conclusion, and that it was really weird to see it being brushed under the carpet when Dr. Stein tells them the truth. I know that this is going to factor into the fact that Victor Garber is leaving the show, but I do think that they could have done something just a little more clever to lead up to that.

Visiting Childhood
hellraiser715 June 2019
Warning: Spoilers
Warning do not read unless seen episode.

This episode is a favorite in my book, this is pretty much a Ray episode which is cool as he's my favorite character in the show and it's a good one.

The plotline really isn't all that important as it's pretty much one big reference to "E.T." but it's one that is concerned about the character notably Ray as well as a celebration of the 80's decade. For anyone that lived in the 80's decade like myself it was just a real treat, just to see this decade again really makes me feel like a kid again.

This episode just has lots of 80s references, jokes and in jokes. From visual ones like seeing Nate in the same blue track suit as Biff and him waxing a DeLorean, which sort of acts a foreshadow for Season 4. Ray looking around his home and just enjoying the retro decorum like picking up a Nintendo controller, yeah, I own a Nintendo and still play it to this day; my only question is which games Ray owns.

There is of course one big reference joke in the escape scene young Ray and Zari escape on bike and well if you've seen "E.T." you know what happens next which just cracked me up, that joke just never gets old just like the movie. However other than some of the 80's fun, what really makes this episode is on some of the depth we discover about some of the characters.

From a little subplot with Professor Stein which I thought was touching as we see there is some good news in his life but also shows how the legends have become more than just a team. We even hear a little about Zuri's past, some bits of her childhood and what isn't accessible in the future which makes us feel further sympathy for Zuri; hopefully somewhere along the line the Legends will fix Zuri's futuristic suck fest.

But another running joke and touching bit as we see Ray likes Musicals and "Singing in the Rain" is his favorite. And we see he's not alone in that as we here Rory loves "Fidler on the Roof" and Zuri is a fan of musicals, and of course Barry Allen as his favorite is also "Singing in the Rain". Personally, I'm not a fan of the genre but there are some I like if they fit my criteria, though my fav is "Rocky Horror Picture Show".

But this is really Ray's episode and one of the themes is about childhood and how we remember it. Ray Palmer is always a positive thinker which I can emphasize with because so am I.

But sometimes this can be a bit of a weakness as it is sometimes a denial on what is happening around him. Like in one scene we see the Legends and him observe two bullies playing keep away with his backpack. Ray says those two are his friends just kidding around with him. But then he observes it more and realizes they are and as that happens the real feelings toward that surface. That moment was a little sad because there is truth to that on how we all remember our childhood fondly but sometimes tend to block out some of the really bad things that have happened.

This isn't the only thing, as we see Ray's childhood isn't all sunshine's and rainbows, when we discover how much of an outsider Ray really is. This really made me feel for him despite how nice and interesting he is, he had few to no friends back then. That really sucks yeah, I've had my share of loneliness, it's not Ray's fault he has no friends in fact know this for anyone that suffers loneliness it's no one's fault.

Really like how in the end both Ray and even the Legends have given Young Ray hope for the future. Liked that speech that Ray gave to Young Ray, which was directed toward both, though also us because it's true in order to overcome hardship we must learn to step up into the present around us. There is nothing wrong with having fantasies, but they are not our whole life.

Also liked seeing Zari talk with Young Ray and it's true, we see one of the other things the Legends have in common is they've all been alone and suffered Loneliness. However, it wasn't forever as they've all found each other in time. Loneliness isn't forever nor entirely real, because there are people always looking for you.

Ray truly has come a long way in life, which makes his childhood bright and future even brighter.

Are y'all serious?

"Emotional ride!" "Such a well written episode". This is a mockery of actual cult classics and it's lazy, cliche. I feel like no one on this show takes their jobs even kind of serious. I like the actors, I blame the writers. But also have to blame the actors for not drawing a line and saying "I'm not doing that, it's dumb as hell"

Phone Lame

Warning: Spoilers
Stein will miss the birth of his grandson unless they leave like now - in their time machine, 29 years before his grandson is born.

Um...

The moral relativity and leftists ideals keep flowing. This episode is a tribute to the awful "ET", a movie full of pretend wonder and pretend feelings that shows how an unknown alien species is ever so much better than humans (aka Americans).

This episode copies ET, poorly, to show that even a murderous alien species is better than evil Americans.

Again, why would it matter when Stein left to travel in a time machine to 2017?

At the end, kid Ray makes the most horrific and ridiculous smile ever seen on the screen. WTF is that?

Remember, folks, Americans evil, killer space aliens good.

A Poor Excuse for an Episode
yastepanov6 November 2017
Warning: Spoilers
Obviously the writers were low on creativity, so instead of writing something new, they stole the core of this episode from E.T. Then patched it together with a very weak storyline.

Very disappointing as this is usually what happens to TV shows on their last legs. When will we see the evil twin/cousin/agent from the other side?

It's cheap and lacks creativity.
