Most Disney+ shows arrive on the streamer early in the morning so that fans can watch as soon as they wake up, but that won’t be the case for ‘The Acolyte.’
Did “The Acolyte” miss an opportunity to release on Star Wars Day? May the Fourth would have been a perfect opportunity to roll the show out and take full advantage of the joke, but for whatever reason Disney+ decided to wait another month and debut the new live-action Star Wars series on Tuesday, June 4. The show will differ from other major premieres on Disney+, in that it will release its first episode at a special time to help the series feel more like a major TV debut of old.

Vault-Tec didn’t assign an Overseer before sealing off Vault 51 — instead, they created an AI to do so. However, it had no clear instructions and started conducting competitions and experiments to find the worthiest candidate. Only one person survived them all and was “chosen” by the AI… And punished for his ineffectiveness.

Vault 108 was created to fail from the start — but provided with a faulty cloning facility. In an attempt to fill the crucial staff positions, the Vault Dwellers cloned a guy called Gary a bunch of times. The clones were more aggressive each time until in the end, the Garys butchered their creators and took over the entire Vault.

Whether you’re a long-time fan of the Fallout franchise or a new viewer that joined the club after watching Prime Video’s TV show, you’re well-aware that Vault-Tec Vaults were much more than just a way to save human civilization in case of a global nuclear war — they were controlled grounds for experiments on humans.
But while some of those experiments were reasonably tame, others were downright monstrous… And one particular Vault can prove devastating in Fallout Season 2.

With the Fallout TV series, even non-gamers are getting acquainted with the post-apocalyptic universe. By the looks of the reception, they’re loving it, and by now, they’ve probably begun researching the universe to understand it better.
The series accurately depicts the world after The Great War. One of the interesting details is the accuracy of Vault 33. Lucy, the protagonist, belongs to this Vault, while her father Hank is its overseer. But these Vaults weren’t just survival shelters; many of them were a means for experimentation and transcended what people call normal.
9. Vault 11: No One Wants to Win Elections
The elected individuals don’t have anything to celebrate.
Politicians’ worst nightmare might be showcased in Fallout: New Vegas. They certainly wouldn’t want the vote of any of the dwellers in Vault 11. It’ll eventually be their last election if they win.

No, it’s not a TV version of Fallout 5 or an adaptation of any one game in the franchise, but the Amazon series is set in the same timeline as the games, so its big twists and reveals pack an absolute punch for fans up to speed with Fallout lore. Through eight episodes, we follow Lucy (Ella Purnell), Maximus (Aaron Moten), and The Ghoul/Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins) as they uncover the mysteries of Vault-Tec and the Wastelanders who attacked Vault 33 at the start of the season. While they initially set out on their own quests, their paths all converge by the end, as a MacGuffin hunt turns into something much bigger that will affect the future of the Fallout series for years to come.

A stark wooden cross stands in a moonlit cemetery in the opening episode of Fallout, Amazon’s eccentric and capacious adaptation of the video game series. From each arm hangs an IV bag that feeds a yellow liquid into a grave. There lies the body of Cooper Howard (Walton Goggins), an erstwhile cowboy who struck gold as a western film star before being blacklisted for alleged communist affiliations. Cooper lived in a distinctively retro-futurist United States. In this alternate universe, the 2070s were marked by escalating war between America and China and seemingly stuck in the 1950s, with black-and-white TVs and classic cars—plus robots that helped apron-clad homemakers around the house. Then the bombs fell, in a bout of mutually assured destruction that eradicated almost all life on Earth.
More than 200 years after the nuclear calamity, a trio of wary mercenaries dig up Cooper’s tomb and find a coffin chained shut.

The Prime Video TV series adaptation of the popular Fallout video game franchise won’t begin streaming until April 12th, but season 2 of the show is already moving forward. While the first season was primarily filmed in New York (with some filming also taking place in Utah), Variety reports that the production will be moving to California for the next sequel. That’s not to take advantage of filming locations there, but rather to get a tax break. The California Film Commission just awarded $152 million in tax incentives to a dozen different TV shows, and Fallout is on the list. For filming the next season in California, the show will receive $25 million in California tax credits.
The budget for the show is quite large, as Variety notes that it has $153 million in qualified expenditures for the season.

You can check out James Blake’s private (recorded) parts on Vault, a new artist-to-fan platform that he is publicly comparing to Substack but which seems more like an OnlyFans for receiving aural pleasure.
“About a week ago I went viral with a post about the effects of streaming and TikTok on artists’ ability to support themselves,” Blake said in a post on X (just one X!). As he explained, Vault approached him with a partnership offer where he would offer his fans unreleased music in exchange for $5 a month. Charging audiences to consume music? How retrograde.
“I wanted to find a way for musicians to make money directly from the music they make, not least to be able to reinvest in the very expensive process of renting studios, hiring musicians, etc,” Blake continued. “Music is not cheap to make and I wanted to help incentivize musicians to actually spend more time making music.

It’s been a busy few months for the DVD business, with Netflix announcing its intention to exit the DVD-by-mail business and Best Buy saying that it would stop selling DVDs and Blu-ray discs in-store.
Now, Disney has decided to exit the physical media space as well, switching to a licensed model via an agreement with Sony Entertainment. The deal will see Sony market, sell and distribute new releases and library titles from Disney.
A Disney source notes that the company regularly evaluates its go-to-market approach, and that rapidly evolving changes in consumer behavior and media consumption spurred on the change.
Disney joins Warner Bros. Discovery and Universal in deciding that sharing resources is a better path forward for a physical media business in decline.

Disney has been looking to sell off its Indian streaming operations for months, and a new report indicates it’s nearing completion of that process.
Disney isn’t used to struggling financially as a company. But these days, things aren’t so rosy at the Mouse House outside of its parks division, as its movie studio and streaming operations are not exactly driving the company’s finances into the black. A new report from the Economic Times indicates that the company could be closing in on a sale of its Indian streaming service Hotstar and linear channels.
Economic Times reports Disney has agreed to a non-binding terms sheet with Reliance Industries Ltd. The first public reports of Disney’s talks with Reliance bubbled up in October. Disney gets good scale from its Indian business, but the average revenue per user it makes there leaves it willing to sell. Sign Up Now $7.99+ / month disneyplus.

Ever wondered where Disney’s iconic wishing star came from? You can find out in the newest animated feature film from the Mouse House!
When you wish upon a star, magic can happen. That’s a well-traveled theme in Disney’s movies, but it has never been more true than in “Wish,” the newest feature-length animated move from Disney which saw its official theatrical debut on Wednesday, Nov. 22.
“Wish” takes place in the kingdom of Rosas, where King Magnifico has the love of his people because of his magical ability to grant wishes. Asha wants to bring him a wish of her own, but when she realizes the king is deceiving his people, she makes a wish on a star — only to have that star descend to Earth and help her in her quest to make her family’s dreams come true!

It’s finally happening. After seemingly endless waiting, teasing, and more “will-they-won’t-they” than a tropey sitcom, Disney and Comcast have finally agreed to the terms under which Disney will purchase Comcast’s 33% stake in Hulu, uniting the streamer under one corporate banner.

The evolution of Disney’s business from a legacy media company to a streaming-first outlet is proceeding with all of the bumps and bruises one might expect. The company is in the midst of weighing the value of all its assets around the globe to see which will remain under Disney’s control, and which will be sold as the company looks to focus specifically on what it sees as its core assets.
Disney may be nearing a deal to sell its Indian Disney Star operations. The company could make as much as $10 billion from such a sale. Disney is looking for infusions of cash as it tries to emphasize its streamers and create a new streaming platform for ESPN.

If your favorite movie was pulled as part of Disney+’s cost-saving measures earlier this year, there’s a good chance you can find it on platforms like Prime Video now.
The handbook for turning streaming losses into profits is fairly short. It really only has three main steps: launch an ad-supported tier, raise prices on ad-free customers, and remove titles from streaming platforms that no longer drive sufficient engagement. Disney can check all three items off their list this year; the company is preparing to execute another round of price increases on Thursday, Oct. 12, and has cut big swaths of content from Disney+ and Hulu alike.
Some films cut from Disney+ are now available to rent or buy for as little as $3.99. Era of deepest cuts on Disney+ is likely over. Movies are available on platforms like Prime Video, iTunes and more.

Disney+ Premium is rising in price on Oct. 12, but new subscribers can still sign up for an annual plan and lock in a lower rate.
There’s no time like the present, and Disney+ knows it. The streamer is raising prices for all ad-free customers, whether in the Bundle or watching a single Disney-owned streaming service, like Disney+, Hulu and ESPN+ on Thursday, Oct. 12.
That means there are only a few days left in which potential subscribers can lock in a lower price for Disney+. The service is the only one of the three Disney streamers that allows customers to sign up for its ad-free Premium plan by the year, and until Wednesday, Oct. 11 new subscribers can do so for $109.99 per year. That price rises to $139.99 on Oct. 12, so if you want to lock in a rate that factors to $9.16 every month for all the Disney+ you can stream with no commercials,...

Earlier this week, Disney+ announced plans to introduce rules against account sharing in Canada.
It had to happen sooner or later, and the time has arrived. Earlier this week, Disney+ subscribers in Canada began receiving notifications from the service that their user agreement was being updated to specify that accounts are to be used only in a single household.
That means that as of Nov. 1, 2023, Canadian Disney+ users will no longer be permitted to share their Disney+ login information with someone living outside their home. There were no immediate details on just how Disney would be stopping users from sharing passwords, just a notification that the service is “implementing restrictions on your ability to share your account or login credentials outside of your household.”

The streamer is updating its subscriber agreement in Canada to limit usage to a single household.
When Netflix announced that it would be introducing new rules to curb password-sharing, there is no doubt that other streaming services would be keeping a close eye on how those efforts were received by streaming customers. It now appears that Disney+ is following the roadmap set forth by the world’s largest streamer and deploying similar rules internationally in an effort to test out the plan before bringing it to the United States.

As first pointed out on Reddit, in a message to Canadian Disney+ subscribers ahead of the introduction of additional ad plans, the company has updated its subscriber agreement to specifically limit usage of the service to a single household. The new agreement is set to go into effect on Nov.

Now that the Hollywood writers’ strike appears to be ending (though the actors’ guild is still striking for a new contract), executives in Hollywood can get back to worrying about their bottom lines. Warner Bros. Discovery estimated recently that it would have to shave $300 to $500 million off its profit projections for 2023 because of the strikes, but a new survey suggests that long-term financial consequences due to work stoppages could be minimal.
That survey comes from the British-based firm Digital TV Research. It found that revenues from all subscription video-on-demand (SVOD) services across the globe will reach $127 billion by 2029 and that most of the revenue will come from American-based streaming platforms like Netflix.

Who wants to buy ABC? Disney CEO Bob Iger confirmed over the summer that his company’s linear channels were all on the table for the right price, and last week word began to circulate that a sit-down between Disney and Nexstar to discuss the sale of ABC had been held.
According to the New York Post, some bankers with knowledge of how such sales are conducted have expressed skepticism that Disney would be able to sell ABC in the current environment. The company clearly wants to pursue a streaming-forward entertainment strategy with its platforms Disney+ and Hulu, but bankers who spoke to the Post say that some have been too eager to run with the story of the company selling off linear channels.

Taylor Swift has revealed the Vault track titles for 1989 (Taylor’s Version).
The titles include “Slut!”, “Say Don’t Go,” “Now That We Don’t Talk,” “Suburban Legends,” and “Is It Over Now?”.
The title for one other Vault track — that’s exclusive to Target — has yet to be revealed.
Swifties were initially able to uncover the Vault track titles by solving a 1989-themed word puzzle on Google. In order to participate, fan first had to type “Taylor Swift” into Google’s search bar, which prompted the word puzzle. Each fan could solve up to 89 puzzles. Once a collective total of 33 million puzzles were solved across all of Google, the track titles were revealed.
1989 (Taylor’s Version) is due out on October 27th — nine years to the day of the album’s original release. The re-recording is up for pre-order on Swift’s website, with multiple different configurations available.

The recent dustup over carriage fees between Disney and Spectrum, the second-largest cable provider in the United States led to a fascinating new deal between the two sides. In exchange for carriage fee increases, Disney gave Spectrum TV users access to Disney+ Basic at no additional charge, collecting a wholesale rate for those users directly from Spectrum.
This was one of Spectrum’s top demands in the dispute. The provider argued that Disney had diluted the value of cable channels like ESPN and Disney Channel by putting so much content exclusively on ESPN+ and Disney+. The only way to ensure customers were getting the value they deserved after paying Disney’s increased carriage fee demands was to provide those customers with access to Disney streamers, and that’s exactly what happened.
