Ragnarok (2020)
Why You Should Skip Netflix's 'Ragnarok': A Disappointing Adaptation Marred by Political Correctness
In the realm of mythological adaptations, Netflix's 'Ragnarok' stands out, but not for the right reasons. What should have been an engaging retelling of Norse mythology ends up being a lackluster series that fails to capture the essence of the source material. Here's why you might want to skip this series altogether.
**Poor Adaptation of Mythology**
Firstly, 'Ragnarok' suffers from a significant disconnect with the rich tapestry of Norse mythology. Rather than delving deep into the intricacies and epic tales of gods and giants, the series opts for a contemporary high school drama setting. While modern retellings can offer fresh perspectives, 'Ragnarok' feels more like a shallow teen drama with mythological names sprinkled in for flavor. The characters, meant to represent the gods of old, lack the gravitas and complexity that one would expect from such legendary figures. This simplification and modernization strip away the awe and mystique that are central to Norse mythology, leaving viewers with a diluted, almost unrecognizable version of these ancient tales.
**Overemphasis on Political Correctness**
A glaring issue with 'Ragnarok' is its overt emphasis on political correctness. Netflix has a reputation for infusing their series with contemporary social issues, which, when done subtly and thoughtfully, can add depth to a story. However, in 'Ragnarok,' this approach feels heavy-handed and detracts from the core narrative. The inclusion of various social justice themes appears forced and often disrupts the flow of the storyline. For instance, the environmentalist angle, while relevant, is executed in a way that feels preachy rather than integral to the plot. The series attempts to tackle numerous issues at once, from climate change to gender identity, but in doing so, it spreads itself too thin, failing to do justice to any of these themes.
**Typical Netflix Adaptation Pitfalls**
'Ragnarok' also falls prey to the common pitfalls of Netflix adaptations: unnecessary changes and the "Netflixification" of the source material. This phenomenon often involves altering key aspects of the original stories to fit a more generic, commercial mold. In 'Ragnarok,' this translates to a loss of authenticity and cultural richness. The Norwegian setting, while visually stunning, is populated by characters and storylines that feel more like they belong in an American teen drama than in a Nordic saga. This incongruity is jarring and undermines the potential uniqueness of the series.
**Mutilation of Good Stories**
The show's narrative decisions frequently mutilate the original myths and legends it draws from. Characters are reimagined in ways that strip them of their original characteristics and motivations. For example, the portrayal of Thor and Loki in 'Ragnarok' bears little resemblance to their mythological counterparts. Thor, the mighty god of thunder, is reduced to a brooding teenager with typical adolescent angst, while Loki's cunning and complexity are oversimplified. These changes not only disappoint fans of Norse mythology but also fail to create compelling new interpretations. Instead of offering a nuanced retelling, 'Ragnarok' delivers a confused amalgamation of high school drama tropes and mythological references.
**Conclusion**
In summary, Netflix's 'Ragnarok' is a series that squanders its potential. By prioritizing political correctness over faithful storytelling, the show alienates fans of Norse mythology and fails to provide a compelling narrative. The typical pitfalls of Netflix adaptations, including unnecessary changes and a loss of cultural authenticity, further mar the series. While modern adaptations can breathe new life into ancient tales, 'Ragnarok' misses the mark, offering a shallow and disjointed experience. For those seeking a genuine connection to Norse mythology or a captivating story, this series is one to skip. Save your time and look for adaptations that respect the source material while delivering engaging and thoughtful narratives.
The Mist (2007)
I want my 2 hours back
There is nothing deep about this movie. It's just bad in every single way
Bad acting
Bad CGI
Bad ending
Just watch something else, don't waste your time watching this trash movie. The only thing unpredictable is the ending, I couldn't have predict that the ending could be this bad. It baffles me there are people praising this movie. It's not dramatic, depressing or anything else. It's pure trash.
There is no logic in this movie, there is no way you can create a cult overnight, making them kill for you, you just can't. Human nature is the only think that you need to keep it real in any type of movie.
Just don't fall for the good reviews, it's trash, pure trash.

Whether you're religious or not, do yourself a favor and watch this
Good job Netflix! Finally a series that it's definitely worth watching. Of course, it's also a series that some people have decided to hate before watching even a minute of it. If you enjoy a good thriller series, grab your popcorn and make yourself comfortable.
The only thing that sucks is that we have to wait for season 2.
The Witcher (2019)
