Il buono, il brutto, il cattivo (1966)
very good except...
Sergio went all out, well almost, in this movie. The flaws are in the auxiliary characters and weak copy cat scenes.
In the unedited cut you see more of them.
The director spent a lot of money on extras and wonderful scenes, some farcical, stolen from Lawrence of Arabia in the desert.
The director probably spent some real money getting the only top established actor Eli Wallach but skimped BIG time on the odd characters met on the journey. Weak pitiful dubbed acting where these scenes could have, should have been great too. For the gun shop, the brother, the military commander, did he just pick someone off the streets?
Stowaway (2021)
good characters
First no person is left behind a #1 rule if you are in the military.
#2 if you use 20% less oxygen in a deep sleep and less in an induced coma if 3 people were kept in deep sleep or induced coma they would all live simple enough.
#3 after accidents in history there would be 3 redundant systems when one crucial system goes down.
But nice story I liked it.
Ma Rainey's Black Bottom (2020)
another depressing film
Ah, what we need now is another depressing film. Brutal language brutal dialog brutal movie.
This is the "Pawnbroker" of Black films. Odd cause I just tried to watch the Pawnbroker with Rod Steiger and it was just too depressing for me and I cut it off.
Ma could win all the awards this year as crazy depressing movies do take the cake at times. The Shindlers List of Academy award nominees with black actors.
Jewish torment in "Shindlers List" and the "Pawnbroker", Black torment in Ma Rainey. Never ending white torment in "Cat on a Hot Tin Roof". Religious torment in a "Man for All Seasons". I guess I just like em a little lighter or at least some light mixed with the all the never ending darkness from beginning to end.
Glengarry Glen Ross is another film it reminds me of - only - a bunch of white guys tearing each other apart with mean dialog for a couple of hours.
All I can say is "The Mendacity of it all".
Mosul (2019)
Great
Perfect
You know every character even in the mess of battle
The mystery unfolds beautifully
If you don't cry at the end you need therapy
It should be a 10 part series to tell the whole story
Grant (2020)
The new standard for documentaries
Perfectly done with a mix of historians and live action. Perfect cast with great story progression.
Uncut Gems (2019)
No I did not like it
Look
Great characters although you don't learn their true relationships.
They whip you up and drop you off the edge of a cliff with a stupid ending.
The goons kill Adam Sandler -
In a gold mart store where there are cameras in the room, in the door way, out side in the hall, in the elevator, in the lobby and outside the building. They were not goon characters that were really really stupid. Not to mention they away their pay day.
Our World War (2014)
Wow
This is what telling a story is all about. It feels like a real story and it is. The interspersed scenes of the real war work perfectly and the character development is just right for me. They do a great job of showing the progress of the battles which is missing in most all war stories. Finally this show affected me like nothing in a long time. Yes I cried like a baby at the end of episode 3. The first episode broke me up also and the knowledge of the bravery and the awards for it truly exhausted me. Action, truth, great stories, Perfect. The directors and producers need to learn from this how to tell the war stories from all wars in the last century.
The Eagle Huntress (2016)
Excellent
Every not and then even in these times of made up stuff and the same actors playing many parts there comes a real story with real people. An absolutely beautiful movie that brought tears to my eyes from the first scene. This movie makes Falcon hunting look like a baby sport. Some of the greatest animals in the world the Eagles used to hunt in Mongolia. A tradition going back centuries that is for men only. And a young girl comes up and proves she is as good as the men. A progressive society in Mongolia that perhaps many other countries should mimic. The music by Sia I will never forget and the moral I will try to remember forever. Take heart, let your senses soar and enjoy this great movie.
