Jongmalui Babo (2024)
One of the most boring K-series in a while
As a big fan of Korean series and sci fi / dystopian genre, I was really exciting about this project but it turns out again as another mediocre Netflix project that no one needs to.
Story itself is quite flat as well as other aspects roles or just not being intriguing at all. I was waiting for any potential twist to be catches but nothing happened besides undeveloped poor love & family stories. I can't imagine more uninteresting example in a similar field.
Actors seems to be really nice but even them could bring a life to any character from a movie.
It's not a drama because drama requires emotional touch. No genre series would be the best description.
Constellation (2024)
Space gum without any particular flavor
After watching the first 2 episodes, the biggest sci-fi appearance is seeing Russia not having war and not being isolated from the world and brutal to people.
Honestly, I don't believe it's a strong show but something is definitely attracting me and other viewers. Another take on space with potential sci-fi elements to be revealed isn't bringing much freshness to the table but there are quite a few people as I am who was waiting for decent space-based thriller.
Compare to the most of recent shows that were released recently this one isn't that bad as Silo or others I don't remember names of it:)
Berlín (2023)
Another mediocre product of Netflix which is sold as luxury
It seems like the budget for promotion is bigger than actual investment to the movie.
Don't get me wrong it shot alright but script is full of holes & really poor, and generally I have a feeling what we are purchasing some store of luxury product but instead receiving AliExpress product.
Advertisement of this project everywhere, I live in Madrid and it's not possible to walk 10 meters without seeing banners, screens or posters of the show. Moreover, such a high rating here is also promoted by bots which you can easily track by helpful rate of every review.
In fact, I would rate it as 5 out of 10 but giving it 1 to balance with bots. I stand for fair ratings and reviews.
Down Low (2023)
Underrated masterpiece
I can't believe it has such a low rating! Yes, it's not for everyone as any other movie. If you don't get it, it doesn't mean it's a bad.
Honestly, it's such a great and fresh indie take on old school dramedy, very rare genre nowadays.
You may like it or not but you will be definitely surprised but it's all twists. 100% must. At least I have reccomended it to all my friends.
I also wanted to mention that the whole casting from the main characters to not the lead ones is just brilliant.
Thank you so much for this almost 2 hours entertainment that distracted from this tough reality we are facing these days.
Painkiller (2023)
Netflixication ruins it
The story is impecable and it needs to be told many times to avoid such a catastrophe period in pharma industry.
Last year, we saw dopesick and when I saw painkiller is coming I thought it's too similar, then I read interviews of creators that's such a different approach and not comparable. Well, we have to admit it's not comparable.
Dopesick is master-piece, such a talented limited series in all of the possible aspects.
Here chemistry didn't work out. Although it is well shot with a great acting, that doesn't really give you an impression of the complete picture.
Probably, if I haven't seen dopesick earlier, I will definitely like it so much more. This one isn't bad at all but the other one so much better.
Beware the Night Nurse (2023)
My eyes hurts and ears are bleeding
That's a real horror in terms of production, acting and the script. I think I need a therapy after watching this. Honestly, I haven't seen any movie that bad as this one and I was watching a lot (my first job was VHS and dvd rental ages ago).
I started watching as a thriller, then I was googling a lot and I thought it's a comedy but it turned out to be just a nightmare of cinema industry.
I am aware of b movies type kinda business but this is beyond.
I truly Beliave some people tried to make it any better and frame it differently but seems like absolutely everything in here went wrong and out of control.
Secret Invasion (2023)
Decent
It seems like it's a beginning of the decent show but I have to say it's the most unrealistic Moscow ever captured on. With given budgets and all of the companies involved, they could make it a little bit more realistic or at least call it differently. I am pretty much sure other people mostly won't be noticing anything about it but to me it looses complicity of its story,
Besides that the cast is great and they do a great job. However, it's just a first episode which is hopefully not the best one yet as it's quite all over the place with long list of cliches which you are not expecting to see in such a series.
Let's see.
War of the Worlds: The Attack (2023)
Movie about saving a cat from a tree would be more interesting
For this kind of movies the atmosphere plays the main role. Here the whole mood of the movie is more relevant to the movie about a cat stuck in the tree and saving her.
Even-though it's low-budget movie, they definitely had some budget invested to the movie, sometimes this kind of films struggle with it but they still can be great. So it's pitty to see how they wrongly accommodated it.
This is like puzzle that can't be completed. Nothing makes sense together and everything falls apart: Acting is weirdly mediocre, VFX looks so plain, no solid lines in this plot but again and the most important is lack of any atmosphere behind it.
Sorry but I couldn't finished it, ffwd to the end after watching a first hour of the movie. Poorly bad and disappointing.
From (2022)
Horrorish Mystery with nostalgic twists
The beggining of the second season made me realize how I personally missed this show.
FROM is well shot, acted and directed horror which isn't something similar on the market.
Usually to cover wide audience Horror tv shows aren't horrors at all. Here the tone of the project is set in the right direction: dark prism, scary scenes and much more (trying not to spoiler anything).
At the same time, suspense and mystery elements are quite classy here and the ones who grew up with Lost and other other shows won't find most of the twists too unique but nostalgic approach is something we like as well, right?
That being set, definitely recommend it to watch.
Dead Ringers (2023)
Too pretentious with nothing behind that
The whole series attitude is trying too hard to be conceptual and look like a masterpiece. In fact, we have pseudo intellectual hopeless and meaningful project that will be forgotten by viewers in 15 minutes after watching this.
Getting viewers attention by showing so many birth acts is a cheap tool when it has nothing to surprise besides that.
You can be pretentious when you have something to say to the world and when it really worths it but in this case the whole projects looks like Paris Hilton trying to be Stephen Hawking.
I guess the main issue here is weak plot which was shrinking all over the place.
Slip (2023)
"I am a director, I am a writer, I am an actress" situation and it didn't work
When there is such a huge competition with unique content, seems like every idea / show gets green light (although I know it's not exact true). Personally I am quite annoyed with "I am a director, I am a writer, I am an actress" situation but it makes any show look like self-obsessive project for this kind of shows which keeps the show behind because the whole focus is on that particular person.
I really tried to like it but I didn't find it touching at all. The idea behind the show is so common nowadays it's like trying to invent a Coca Cola substitute which means If you are getting in that that direction you have to really impress your viewers or at least bring something new, not just applying a personal midlife crises to that formula.
Kwinmeikeo (2023)
Decent Westernized Korean political drama
Korean tv scene has been booming for a while. So there is no surprise Netflix decided to have a piece of this pie with all recent Korean project
Queenmaker is based on Korean tv shows pillars but smashed with typical Netflix agendas which makes this concept less authentic in a way and more blurry. Probably they believe westernize the project will reach wider audience group which is fair enough. That being said, here it worked out and looks good. However, I prefer original Korean content produced for local people because usually it has more unpredictable twists. Even though, sometimes it looks outdated but it makes it more unique for people outside of Korea.
Rabbit Hole (2023)
Decent Rollercoasterish action
It's not the greatest but quite decent action series or thriller. There are a few holes and discrepancies in a script, so not looking into logic it makes its journey interesting.
All recent series are more slow burnish, here you can feel some sort of rollercoaster emotions which is great and it keep your focus on it.
Plot itself is quite basic for that kind of series but some of the twists are really unpredictable. It plays with a viewer on a good level but not that pretentious as some other recent shows.
I wouldn't say it's must watch but If you want to distract you from something, it worths it.
Tiny Beautiful Things (2023)
Life-affirming slow burn dramedy
I would recommend this series to everyone who loves shows like Better things, togetherness, transparent, casual which is quite rarely released these days.
I do miss shows like that which are indie in a way and as result quite niched for very particular viewers.
In 2023 when times are quite harsh for so many people around the world, shows like that can be considered as some sort of treatment because it tells you a someone else story of personal crises but everyone can find so many things in common to overlook these situations from outside and make it's own conclusions.
And yes, most of us are really broken.
Well shot, well acted, sad and promising.
Devil in Ohio (2022)
Expect as little as you can
Netflix is famous for creating anti masterpieces and this one is another good example of mediocre content. Seriously I have tried to say anything good about this show but It's simply bad in all possible ways. I don't actually know who potentially can be a target audience, not a horror, not a thriller, not a teen focused, just a test drive with various directions leading to nowhere.
To me it's like train which derailed before leaving its starting point. I hope one day Netflix will read scripts and discuss its potential at least before investing signinificat amount to shows like that.
Was it marked horror because they just wanted to let us know in advance that it's a horrible show with horrible production?
The Gray Man (2022)
Another generic product from Netflix.
The movie is OKAY like a gum for action lovers. However, there is no single intriguing twist neither anything exciting. Feels like another ultra generic product of NETFLIX full of cheeses and naive moments. What good can I say about it? Probably nothing. It's plain as stating at the blank wall.
Moonhaven (2022)
Is it a year of the worst shows?
I do understand that there is massive competition with all of streaming services and each of them wanna have more and wider range than others but is there any quality control for projects? Are they giving a green light to any production, shows now? What a shame! It will ruin the industry itself and seems like we won't be having high quality content soon until people stop watching shows like this.
Avoidance (2022)
Dramedy as it's best
It's quite unusual blue but surprisingly really deep and hilarious show about total misunderstandings we are facing sometimes when we aren't talking on truly important matters in relationship. Show and acted at the best way, not for everyone but if you are indie dramedy, it's 100% must.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent (2022)
Almost 7
After large amount of creepy and truly disaster recent movies with Cage, it made me quite skeptical to any project he is participating nowadays as it is really difficult to consider him as a big talent anymore. I would really like to say it's a different case and proper movie, instead I would only say it's just ok and decent film. We used to have more comedies like that back in a day, it is quite old school but in a good way. Not a great, but watchable.
Big Boys (2022)
Underrated one!
Surprisingly the release went quiet but I am glad to discover it after a review at guardian. If you are into bright blue real life looking dramedies, that is 100% must. Actors, plot, twists and the way how it shot is brilliant. Yes-yes-yes!
Bienvenidos a Edén (2022)
Almost ZERO
Before trusting the shown rating, have a look at how many people voted for Lowest scores. Netflix as it's best activated bots here(as always). The show itself is really poor scripted, badly acted, dreadful and truly painful to watch. Save your time and watch ANYTHING else.
A besúgó (2022)
Almost 10
Surprisingly I was Hooked from the very first minute. Great cast, plot and really good production. Despite very active show season, this one is one of the best this year. Highly recommended:)
The Endgame (2022)
What a bots parade here in reviews!
I believe this is the weakest show released this year. Honestly if this will be renewed for a second season, I will never watch NBC again. If someone asks me what's is the worst way to waste time, I will recommend to go for this.
Signora Volpe (2022)
Quite a disaster.
I can't believe something that bad can be released in 2022. I would rate it zero if I could. Seems like actors do understand they are participating in a such low quality project and acting like below their interest.
The Madame Blanc Mysteries (2021)
Detective parody or huge question mark
I am not sure if that was supposed to be a detective parody but I watched it as a comedy, not a drama as it is indicated. Absurdly and theatrically funny, fully of hilarious cliches show made me stick to that for mystery reason because the quality of this is a huge question mark, but I had some fun watching that.
