Saw X (2023)
Loved it! More John Kramer Please !!
When I heard about Saw X, I wasn't interested because I knew about Jigsaw and the gruesome games. After stomaching Saw I and Saw II, that was it for me. Now fast forward to Saw X, I read the reviews and watched a couple interviews and saw the trailer and it was the story that intrigued me. So I gave the Saw franchise another shot. I was prepared for the gruesome traps and more - and boy- it did not disappoint. Loved it and John Kramer is the man! Highly recommend for any horror fan. I hope there will be a Saw XI and I will watch the other Saw movies - not sure if binging all 7 episodes would be a good idea 😊.
Fatale (2020)
Terrible Script - that's really it 😩😩
I gave the movie a chance because Hilary Swank and Michael Ealy were in it. Omg- it must had been a slow year for movie scripts - they're talents should give them options. Was this the best they could do? Acting was bad. Plot was ridiculous and very predictable. Music sounded like it was from The Handmaids Tale. Not the best although I would expect this from Netflix. Nothing else to say. Disappointed and hope to see better performances from a two time Oscar winner. I'm still a fan of Hilary Swank and Michael Ealy. Maybe time to hire agents who can get quality movie scripts. Not recommendable..
Swarm (2023)
Disturbing and chilling - it will take you to the dark side !
I wasn't sure after episode one what to expect - after the first episode I was completely hooked. I had to binge watch the remaining episodes. For all you viewers who want a very different, dark and unhinged binge - this is for you. A masterful gem and you keep wanting more. The acting is superb and newbie Dominique Fishback was so good and now I'm a fan. I had to change my Emmy selection to include her. The supporting cast excellent. Billie Elish was so believable and I hope she continues acting. Lastly - so many references to Queen Bey. So good - loved this. I hope Donald Glover continues to make a S2.
Temple Grandin (2010)
Absolute Gem - Love It
Claire Danes is such a gifted actress and she became Temple Grandin - great performance. I learned more about autism and I thank God Temple was born to do the great things in our time. Julia Ormond's performance of a gentle, strong, and educated mother, preparing Temple for life the best way she could, just very moving.
Claire Danes has made a good share of films, and Brokedown Palace and Rainmaker are two movies that showcased her dramatic acting talent. I think one day. Claire will have her day at the Oscars, she's just waiting for the right script.
Temple Grandin will not disappoint and a must see.
Abbott Elementary: Fundraiser (2023)
Funny episode, always Team Barbara
Enjoyed the episode "Fundraising" but would have given it a 10 rating if Principle Ava had not been so shady in her selling methods to the kids. But overall a good show. Love Barbara Howard, should get Teacher Of The Year ! The plot thickens with Jeanine and Gregory. New student faces as each new episode continues during the season.
I'm thrilled that Abbott Elementary is going to have a third season. Quinton still continues to keep the material fresh. I would love to see more of Melissa's sister and an introduction to Jeanine's sister as well. New and recurring guests are always welcomed and more.
The Vow (2020)
Great Insight- loved Season 2
I enjoyed Season 1 and the pace was good. I don't think I would have liked it if all this Information and details (very detailed) was condensed into a 90 minute documentary - so much of the documentation would have to be edited out.
Season 2 was much better. I liked the way the court sessions were created and I got a much deeper understanding of Keith R agenda and what a deviant. I really felt bad in a way for Nancy Salzman and it was a real shame that things ended the way it did for her. She was remorseful and unfortunately for her, no do-over or turning back the clock.
Too bad Allison Mack and Lauren didn't give interviews - it would have been a good opportunity to tell their side of the story.
Weird: The Al Yankovic Story (2022)
Started off decent but then nosedived ...silly.
I really wanted to enjoy this movie and even tolerated the minute Roku commercials but just got way too silly. Really felt I was wasting my time. I have my doubts about the Madonna relationship and the nonsensical Madonna kidnapping by Escobar. Too much and just not interested in all that. Fun actor cameos and supporting cast, Rainn Wilson and Julianne Nicholson. Daniel Radcliffe played a somewhat convincing Weird Al however he's much shorter than Weird Al himself. Quinta Brunson was a fun Oprah. That's really it. Somewhat disappointed and expected more. Not really much to laugh after the first half of the movie.
A Friend of the Family (2022)
Horrific experience for the Family- thankful times have changed.
Absolutely engrossing and the acting is brilliant - love McKenna Grace and she's only 17yrs old- unbelievable (watch her incredible performance in The Handmaids Tale). Colin Hanks and Anna Pacquin both brilliant- Pacquin's performance best I've seen. Folks should not blame the parents for not doing more for Jan- you have to remember this was in the 70s and there was no internet, no cell phones and laws to protect children against pedophiles did not exist in the 70s. Hard to even believe the term pedophile never existed in the 70s and what's even worse, B only served 15 days for his crime.
I sympathize with the parents and I believe they were doing the best they could to get Jan back. I wait for next week's final episode and can't wait.
Mama's Boy: A Story from Our Americas (2022)
Great tribute to a very strong woman
I loved every minute of this documentary. Dustin Lance Black's story about his mother was so beautiful. His mother would be so proud of him. It was not an easy road for Dustin, but to hear how his mom overcame so many obstacles and she never gave up. Neither did Dustin. Never a harsh word about his adversaries but words of encouragement and never giving up. I plan to continue watching quality work created by Dustin and hope he continues to create more documentaries on social issues and human rights.
I hope viewers feel encouraged after watching this documentary - humans can be resilient and do anything if determined.
The Handmaid's Tale: Ballet (2022)
S5 Episode 2 ---bam! Holy cow.
Episode 1 kind of dragged on and it was just to update the viewers with what's happening with the characters. There is not much to say and a bit slow moving. We get to find out what's going on with Janine and Esther. June a a bit out of control.
Episode 2 we see that June has the upper hand and Serena is alone and not much help from the commanders when she takes Fred's body to Gilead. But the end of the episode is pure Serena evil and boy she really gives it to June !!!!! I am now very intrigued and looking forward to more of what the season will bring.
Hang in there Handmaid's Tale fans - it's bound to be a blessed ride.
They/Them (2022)
Not The Best Horror Movie But Sent A Message
Was it a great horror picture ? No, slash scenes were not timed right- either too soon or not quite the right moment. But what stuck with me was how awful kids are made to go to these conversion camps by their parents who won't accept their children for who they are. I gave this movie an 8 out of 10 rating because it sent a strong message and I hope this movie will open doors for other talented LGTBQ+ actors. Theo Germaine carried the show for the LGTBQ+ community and has untapped talent; Kevin Bacon and Anna Clumsky are always great to watch. The other supporting characters have great potential and I really hope Hollywood takes notice. I would love to see more inclusion and give these actors a chance to shine.
Wedding Season (2022)
It's too cliche, predictable, but sweet.
It started off good but then it just got too predictable and the script is super cheesy. Acting is ok. Parents were annoying however stereotyped all the way. Nothing else to watch? Sure, why not Wedding Season. It's an escape from reality.
Goodfellas (1990)
Watching Goodfellas- lost count of how many times to watch
Goodfellas is a gem, never get tired watching it and it's very fun to watch. One of the best Scorcese films along with Casino ( I know there are other films). Love all the characters and Liotta stands out (RIP) - my absolute favorite scene is when he's joking around with Pesci and tells him he's a funny guy; I read that that scene was improvised. Will miss you Ray Liotta - not your time to leave us.
Old (2021)
Awful- could not watch it. Terrible
This is just a bad movie. Terrible script, acting not bad and could be improved if the writing was decent. I really hoped I'd be watching a decent Shyamalan movie but it seems like his movies are either really good or really bad. "Old" is really bad.
Great idea, that's it.
Candy (2022)
Great Cast - I expected to be hooked
Wow- just engrossed in the story and the acting is so good. Want not really a Jessica Biel fan until now. Love Melanie Lynskey, Pablo Schreiber and Tim Simons. Love the music score and the 80s theme spot on. Suspenseful and so glad Hulu airs a new episode daily.
Highly recommend.
The Dropout: Old White Men (2022)
Best episode - now completely hooked
Amanda Seyfried is Elizabeth Holmes and she really gets into full character. Each episode gets better. I'm hooked. Acting is better. Anxious to see what happens next. I only saw the HBO documentary (several times), watched many interviews and I know eventually what happens and I am finding out more about EH as a person and how awful she treated those employees who were there supporting her from the beginning. She really gets what she deserves.
Abbott Elementary (2021)
Season 1 was great, but Season 2 not sure.
For the first time in many years, I was actually looking forward to a prime time show. Abbott Elementary was very funny first season, must have binged watched the entire season countless times. I could not wait for Season 2.
Season 2 - not sure why but the show is a little disappointing this time around. Also Principal Coleman- not that funny really now and cringy with a mean streak. Some of the issues that she deals with as a principal- not a real thing in public schools.
I do appreciate what the show (most of the time) is trying to do, the message it's sending. I'll continue to watch the S2 Wednesdays and hope for the best. But please do something about Ava Coleman script and her character lines - this is not a Netflix Stand Up Comedy Night but family night - please keep that in mind writers. I find some of her shtick routine and dialogue offensive.
Euphoria: Stand Still Like the Hummingbird (2022)
Very Painful to Watch 10/10 - give Zendaya her Statue
Episode 5 is all about Zendaya and she's going to sweep the awards in 2022-23. The entire cast is so good. But Zendaya is outstanding, and she portrays an addict who in a very agonizing way shows how self-destructive and demonizing drugs truly are.
Kevin Can F**k Himself (2021)
It's different- and I really like it.
I wasn't sure what to expect - and I like it and it's growing on me. I think the part comedy part drama is different - I like that also. The accents sound genuine - for those who are Schitts Creek fans, it's kind of hard at first to let go of Alexis Rose and watch Annie Murphy play someone different however there are moments when I see a little bit Alexis (hand gesture, facial expressions). But I do think Anne Murphy is great so far and the fans should give her a chance. Looking forward to the rest of the series.
The Last House on the Left (1972)
Try not to watch the remake first
I watched the remake of LHOTL which I liked however it's gruesome and suspenseful. I did not know it was a remake of the Wes Craven's 1972. So I was interested and watched it with a open mind since I did not expect it to be cinematically the same. Well, the original was campy, a little corny, acting was amateur and maybe just silly at times. But it was horrifying, not as horrifying compared to the remake. It could have done without the cops- they were useless in the story. Fighting scenes were silly. Not what I would have thought to be Wes Craven material.
The Handmaid's Tale: Progress (2021)
Oh Canada- how could you !!!
Oh dear Canada- you do not want to piss off June! I can't wait for the season finale. Also - Nick- what have you done to June? So now she's super hot and just look out. I think Luke is scared of June, even Moira.
Just a great episode - never expected any of this. Well done Elisabeth - another great episode and I fully expect you to have at least 2 Emmy nominations this year - acting and directing.
The Handmaid's Tale: Home (2021)
Gosh- have been waiting for so long
I have been waiting for this moment however I have a feeling that June will go back to Gilead to get Hannah. She and Luke don't quite connect but it will take time. I can't wait for the next episode.
Hacks (2021)
Love love love everything about this show.
Jean Smart - brilliant. All supporting cast brilliant. Found a great show to now binge watch.
The Handmaid's Tale: Milk (2021)
Keep the flashbacks coming!!!
I love to see the past lives of these Handmaids and enjoyed getting to know more about Janine. I fear that Serena has an agenda. But Elisabeth Moss just gets better and better. It would not surprise me however If Madeline Brewer was nominated for a supporting role- she's overdue.
Keep up the surprises, twists and turns- it is going to be an emotional ride.
I couldn't agree more with the reviews:
1. June- great acting and a lot of closeups. IYes- many zoom shots of June.
2. Ironically I wish we could see what's happening in Gilead and how are the 'parents' of the 86 children dealing with their loss? How is the Red Center dealing with this?
3. Fred gets what he deserves. Serena cares for nobody but herself - she is a sly fox and Rita finally catches on.
4. Yes- I too miss Aunt Lydia.
5. The story is very interesting this season and I don't know what to expect.
6. Love the flashbacks. Great to see Janine's life pre-Gilead. How cute is Caleb !!
7. Very little about Emily and what about her son.
So much more and yet 6 more episodes left and I wonder if there are too many stories to tell in what feels like a short season.
I will miss Beth, Alma, Brianna - wish they didn't leave so soon.
Thunder Force (2021)
Another McCarthy-Falcone collaboration - yikes
When I read that Ben Falcone wrote, directed and starred in this movie, I thought, oh boy- here we go again. To be honest, this may be his best flick and it certainly helped that Octavia Spencer was in it, I mean some star power always helps to draw in the fans. I'm predicting a sequel which was obvious. The movie wasn't so terrible and I kind of enjoyed it. However I think Melissa is super talented and she is overdue a good script. Perhaps it was a slow day for Octavia and why not have a bit of fun and get paid for doing it. This was not the worst Netflix movie.
