Meg 2: The Trench (2023)
.. and I thought first Meg movie was bad
I don't really know where to start. Lol. I sometimes wonder what screenplay authors think before coming up with the laughable silliness and genuine ridiculousness like this. Then actually get funding to make a circus of a movie. But moreover, what do actors think, when reading the script and taking up roles like these? Did Jason Statham read and thought this is a good sequel? But if he agreed to the first one, then I guess this explains it. The silly, primitive dialog with his patented tough and gritty voice, along with shark like creatures that can swim and walk, sounds terrific lmao. This takes over from Sharknado.
Kandahar (2023)
Please don't compare this to The Covenant
This is a very good picture. The screenplay, story, scenes and execution just work here. Acting is flawless. This is not another action CGi movie with cartoonish explosions and fire outta rifle muzzle, along with turkey shooting silliness you see in The Covenant, for example. Where it feels like everything's staged and plainly too simple and mediocre. Kandahar is a serious movie with a serious message. The story and acting make you feel for the characters. Butler is a very good actor, with recent films like Plane and this one he's becoming a go to actor for such roles and deservingly so. Can't wait to see what's next for him. Cheers!
John Wick: Chapter 4 (2023)
6 just because it's Keanu
This franchise, like most of them, tends to just drop with every installment. And I hate to be saying this, since I absolutely loved the first one and really liked John Wick 2. Although, in the second one, there was a glimpse of things to come with unpenetratable suit silliness (Batman thingy..) . In John Wick 3, he falls from skyscraper and lives like a superhero.. Look where we started with original John Wick and where we ended up now. From a good story, rough, dark, believable John Wick, we gradually got another, sorta Marvel, ridiculousness, from everyone wearing "batman suits", blind ninja, desert chase on horses, while still wearing same clothes. Yes, this is an action movie, and there's shootings and fights and killings, but it's gotta be proportionate to everything else, no? Here we got 89.9% of fights and a snippets of monologues with five sentences. Time to wrap it up. It was a good ride.. with John Wick and John Wick 2.
Murder Mystery 2 (2023)
For most part, still fun
First off, you gotta like Sandler, to watch this. Honestly, I think his comedy has gotten better. This is not same silly and childish mockery we've seen in Billy Madison (classic btw) and alike. This is more of the witty and frankly very funny lines he does throughout this franchise. And the fact that he does it with a straight face makes it even funnier. Can't say same of Aniston, though. Very good actress, indeed. But she's just out of place here. Last time she was funny was on Friends. I don't think comedies are for her. Love that the two movies take place in Europe which adds to the whole, Agatha Christie's, mystery sort of thing. This is not a heavy comedy, but a light fun ride, which makes the expectations more realistic.
Beast (2022)
A decent creature movie
Don't expect anything different or too much out of this genre, since it's been beat up for years.. But it's hard to argue that whenever we talk about nature, nothing pumps the adrenaline up more than a predator. We both, fear and admire such creatures. And if a movie is not just a dull circus rampage like low budget comedies as Sharknado, for example, you will be interested to watch it. That said, this is not a great movie, and won't become a classic one, but still worth watching, if your into nature based thrillers/horror flicks. First off, two good actors playing leads here, good story, scenery, effects and execution. It doesn't rely on gore violence, it's not dull either, gives good pointers to nature of lions, and it's just enough to keep you watching and root for the characters. A good 7. Suggestions: The Ghost and the Darkness, Rogue, The Shallows.
The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power (2022)
Seriously..?
Hollywood seems to run out of ideas. Wonder if even all the childish Marvel movies have outlived their "hip" time.. Why create a fantasy out of fantasy? Because it's a famous franchise and money is there and/or today's society and political views drive creators to make unnecessary spin-offs and shove it down to audiences.
Why not leave the beloved franchise alone, especially because it was based on actual work of a writer and not Hollywoods opportunists? There's nothing wrong with bad reviews, including this one. No need to politicize it. And it's not about the actors. It's just a bad decision and poorly thought of attempt to make a show to indirectly reflect today's societal landscape...Peace to all.
Jurassic World Dominion (2022)
An utter nonsense
What a complete and senseless circus this movie is.
Seriously, it's a mashup of snippets of Mad Max, which meets Star Wars, which meets who knows what.
The only Jurassic thing about this movie is a title. Forget the dinosaurs, nowadays it's about peoples feelings, convictions, government and global conspiracies. And we thought the last few installments of this franchise were lame. In comparison to this one (and one before..) those were actually, somewhat, worth spending time watching. Sometimes one has to wonder, is Hollywood running out of ideas or just hiring ppl to make a movie for loud noises, chases and special effects to get the audience to fill the seats.
Casino Royale (2006)
Arguably the best Bond movie made
First of all, forget all silly, childish gadgets, or a disappearing car nonsense. This is a brand new Bond; dry, ruthless, the one that's all about business and not about amount of gel in his hair.. Old cliches are gone as well - "Shaken or stirred?" Bond - "Does it look like I give a damn..?" We see him being cold and vulnerable as well. Story line, execution, acting are perfect. Also, fight scenes are much more realistic, opposed to Brosnan's Bond, where his perfect hair never gets messed..
Rogue (2007)
An underrated indie gem
If you're an animal monster horror movie fan, this is a MUST watch. You'd be surprised how on the edge of your seat this flick will make you feel. The effects are superb, the scenery of Australian backcountry is exceptional as well and so is acting. Watch out for the young Sam Worthington, in his early small role as well.
The Batman (2022)
Not bad at all
A good movie. All Batman movies are dark and rainy, adds to the feel of Gotham. Storyline is not bad either.
I must admit though was taken back a little at 1:40:25 mark into the movie. Why insert any racial context here at all..? I guess in this day and age, even in this genre, there still has an urge for this feel of grievance and victimhood. Sad.
The King (2019)
Outstanding historical depiction
For anyone who loves and appreciates history, this picture would be a gem to watch. The performances are by themselves are outstanding, but also is production, cinematography, setup and delivery. The director is able to send the audience back in time and truly show what it was like to live during those ages. Beautiful film.
No Time to Die (2021)
Leaves you wishing more..
"Shaken or stirred?"
"Does it look like I give a damn..?".
I still regard all Daniel Craig Bod movies to be best, different, dry, authentic Bond. However, this one felt a little more like those cheesy Pierce Brosnan ones. The plot, silly gadgets, even dialogue, was just different. Still "Casino Royal" is the best of the all. Peace.
Bridesmaids (2011)
Outstanding
A very very funny and witty movie. Awesome performances by the main characters. You don't need corny jokes, or make funny faces, just pin point comedy.
Watch it, do yourself a favor pls.
The Misfits (2021)
Two words - Nick Cannon
It's sad to see actors which are actually gifted and recognized, the ones that starred in movies we remember, like Brosnan, being wasted..
the movies is as dull as Nick Cannons character or performance..
Quantum of Solace (2008)
The weakest of five movies with best Bond - Graig
It all started with the dreadful theme song for this movie. It's just that bad. The plot is weak and on top of that the lack of chemistry between Graig and Kurilenko's characters shows. Execution is good, plenty of action, but again pale in comparison with other installments.
Jûsan-nin no shikaku (2010)
Forget Kill Bill nonsense
If you want a real Samurai movie, this one is simply outstanding. The script, scenery, and of course fighting scenes are second to none in my opinion. The whole thing delivers a punch.. and sword!
The 15:17 to Paris (2018)
Great story but you have got to be kidding with acting
I mean, seriously, I'm lost here. What a story of bravery, courage and friendship. But I'm not understanding why there weren't any actual actors hired as main characters for this movie. It's like I was watching an indie movie made by a guy living down the street. Sigh..
Malignant (2021)
A different kind of demon from Wan
Forget demons and ghosts you've got used to over the years with Insidious, Conjuring, Annabel franchises from Wan & company.. Wan takes it to a different level, just like with Saw and Death Sentence flicks. This one, however, is yet, with a new twist. Original idea, but becomes stagnant with plot over the course of the movie. Acting doesn't help either.. 10 for original script, 4 for the execution, so 6 from me. Let's go back to ghostly scares :)
Spy (2015)
A witty and VERY funny flick
Enjoyed this movie very much. Smart, pin point jokes comedy with lots of laughs. The cast is great and who knew Jason Statham would be funny.. A must see.
Murder Mystery (2019)
Not bad at all
I expected something totally goofy from
Sandler, but I was pleasantly surprised. Movie is funny and jokes are witty and well placed. The whole European swag works as well. The only thing for me is, No chemistry btw Sandler and Aniston and Aniston, as much as I like her as an actress, didn't act well, I think.
The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It (2021)
James Wan, where are you??? Save the franchise pls
This is the weakest of the Conjuring/Annabelle/Insidious franchises. Although its said to be based on true story, the movie didn't introduce anything we haven't seen.
Whatever might've been added to real life events in the movie, doesn't make the audience anxious with anticipation. It's not nearly as scary and end-of-your-seat exciting. James Wan needs to direct another installment, or it'll get more lame..
Godzilla vs. Kong (2021)
Great... if you're 12. .
Is there a lack of imagination in Hollywood for the past ten something years where they keep coming up with these "theme park" movies? If it's not Marvel nonsense then it's this. This is just another Alien vs Predator lunacy, just much bigger characters.
Coming 2 America (2021)
No feel..
It would be foolish to expect same kind of chemistry, flavor and delivery as the original movie, but hoping for the best...? Maybe perhaps starting with John Landis missing as a director..?
This installment lacks pretty much everything mentioned before. Even barbershop characters, to my very big regret, miss the mark. There are very few laughs, at best.
It's just after more than 30 years, one would expect they'd have more time to come up with better script
The Peanut Butter Falcon (2019)
Outstanding
What a simple, warm and beautiful picture this is.
Incredible cast, even for smaller roles. The chemistry between Shia, Zack and Dakota is as genuine as it gets. This whole movie just works! Watch it!
The Shallows (2016)
Not bad after all, but size does matter..
You might find it as a cliche to all other shark survival movies, but it carries well on the audience.
Of course the habit of making the size of the shark vastly exaggerated to woe the audience continues to be the center of such movies. A 14-footer would do same damage and is equally terrifying.
