A disservice to the original film...
25 February 2024
First off, let me start by stating that I generally don't care for musicals. That being said...

This one takes "Musical" to a whole new "Cheesy" level! I'm not sure what the target audience was with this one but it most certainly was not me.

Either, I'm way to old to connect with this, or this is one of the most horrible movies out there right now.

Saving grace was the acting of a couple characters pretty much "Hard Carried" this film. There was also a nice cameo in this flim as well. It did, for the most part follow the original story (Almost word for word).

In conclusion: I would not recommend this to anyone I know.

Great movie for Dog Lovers!
25 February 2024
Due to the fact that I'm a Dog Lover I'm probably a little biased. However, I did think this was a well done movie. It had an "Indie" feel to it.

It also had a very heart wrenching story line to boot. I also went into this not expecting anything really. Boy was I surprised! I found myself glued to the screen. Like I said I personally am a dog lover, but this did have a great story. The acting by the main character was very good.

To be fair it is probably not for everyone, but if you are a dog lover this one is a must watch! The story illustrates just how loyal, and healing a good dog can be in a person's life. In this case a lot of dogs...lol.

I would totally watch this one again!

Could have been a Cult Classic...
13 August 2023
Honestly, I can see where this movie could have been on the same shelf as Star Wars, or Avatar.

The visual effects were comparable to Avatar. The story could have passed as a Han Solo "type" saga of sorts. There could have been a few changes, but for the most part it really was not any more outlandish than a Han Solo character, or Avatar level Effects.

However, the acting was quite subpar. I found it hard to take any of these characters seriously. I believe the script could have been pulled off way better by a better casting.

In conclusion, clearly most of the budget was spent on effects. If they had the same funds to put on the cast it could have been a block buster.

First season was good...
14 July 2023
The first season got me all excited. I liked the idea of the show, and the story was great. Acting was great, special effects were great.

Pretty cool alternate reality premise too. It would have been nice to see the show go beyond Mars. Possibly even better technology being invented out of necessity.

However, after the first season it really started being more and more about politically correct ideologies. By the end of the third season it was pretty tough to muttle through.

I can accept some of that in moderation. Although, in this case I felt it went a little overboard.

I would have been happier with more space race, and less political correctness.

I thoroughly enjoyed this show!
12 July 2023
I must say I really enjoyed this show. Yes, you do have to accept some of what seems like unrealistic attributes. However, it is supposed to be Sci-Fi... In most all the Sci-Fi shows I've ever seen just about everything is usually quite unrealistically possible.

I it kept a good enough pace through pretty much evey episode, that made me want to watch the next one.

Yes the queen character was an absolutely atrocious character. I mean I think that is what that were going for, but good greif! This was definitely the most annoying character I've had to endure in quite some time...I could not stand to even hear the sound of her voice!

Obviously, the other side of the coin from "A Quite Place", and an some uncanny similarities to "Game of Thrones"

Bottom line is that I would highly recommend this to any Sci-Fi fan.

10 episodes in...
8 July 2023
I watched all 10 episodes of season 1, and I still don't have a clue why they are actually living in a silo? What secrets...if any, are they hiding?

It's basically a slow burn drama that has intense sub-story plots riddled all through it. Kind of like a soap oprea, it never really addresses the elephant in the room...Why are they in a silo?

It gives hint to secert plots that never get answered, I guess in an attempt to "keep you rivited", and on the edge of your seat.

Maybe season two will have more substance, if there is a season two?

I'll give it 5 of 10 in hopes that it will actually have a season 2, that will explain more about the actual Silo.

Good acting, Poor Story
4 July 2023
The acting was very impressive. The story...not so much. I struggled to find the point to the story the whole movie.

The Sci-Fi Element is virtually nonexistent.

I must of missed some of the first part of the movie. I did not even know what planet they were on. The only way I knew it was Mars was because it says so in the synopsis. I don't think the movie even says what planet they are on. I half expected the end to be that they where actually on Earth.

They were obviously going for the human condition more than the Sci-Fi. It's a shame that they just slap a Sci-Fi sticker on this film.

I mean for a college movie project I would imagine this would get a pretty good grade.

But, as a viewer that decided to watch it because it was supposed to be Sci-Fi...I gotta say that this movie leaves a lot to be desired in that department.

The acting skill was there, the directing skill was more or less there, but the storyline was basically bogus.

Whoever wrote this needs to put more details in like...What planet is this settlement on? How did a settlement even get there? Who put it there? Where did the other people not from the settlement come from? How did the people from the settlement get there? Is earth not habitable anymore? Was this an experiment? What is the point of the settlement? How long has it been there?

This could have been great if it just had more substance.

Hard to follow...
8 January 2019
I had hoped to get a lot more laughs out of this than I did. Instead, I found myself watching some sort of politically biased drama that was very tough to follow. A lot of the scenes seemed to be "chopped off " for lack of better technology which made this film seem extremely clunky. In any event, I do have to give props for the great acting that is the only thing that really saved this movie for me. It was a great watch just for that alone, Bale really impresses me with his skills.

It does teach me however, that ALL politicians are most likely involved in a very evil business, no matter what side of the fence they're on. As the saying goes "Power corrupts, Absolute power corrupts absolutely."

Basically...they chopped up the story from the novel.
26 May 2012
If you have read the books, don't watch this movie. If you've watched the movie, try your best to forget that you did, and go read the books instead.

The novel is a wonderful work of art. That this film totally demolishes. There are actually 4 books, I'm working on reading the last book now. This movie, to put it blunt, Christopher Paolini needs to get some agents like Lucas Arts has, to keep people from bashing his story.

That is sound advice people.

On the upside, the movie does reveal enough about the story to motivate you to read the books. The only real horrible part of the movie I guess is John Malkovich. Having his image stuck in you mind while trying to read the novels is hideous.

This one was hard for me to digest.

Warning: Spoilers
I'll maintain a benefit of the doubt view here. Because someone might actually like, what I would say is a "B,C, or possibly even a Z Rated" film.

The first thing I sort of did not like, was how fast the readable frames were flashing, you could not read them.

I only gave it a look because I sort of like Kevin Sorbo as an actor. Which he does not even, appear in the film until about 34 minutes into it.

I did manage to see a couple of interesting special effects. And the story line was alright, but there was a lot of frame splicing, and screen switching, it almost sort of makes you feel dizzy.

I personally could not get into it. But someone else might enjoy it. I'd recommend googling "B, C, Z rated" films if you don't already know what this means. To get an idea if this is something you might be interested in.

The last thing, I guess I could through in, is that it is a Vampire Based story line. So, if you like Vampire story's you might like it. But, It did appear to me to be very low budget. So, keep that in mind.

Real Steel (2011)

I thought the movie was very good.
19 January 2012
It seems that a lot of people love to either write negative reviews, or read them one? They must be in high demand or something? My opinion is, if you see a negative review about this movie...just ignore it.

It is VERY RARE that you get any type of viable/watchable Sci-Fi in any form these days. Most Sci-Fi is very cheaply made, with poorly written story lines, and second rate actors cast in them. And, little to no descent looking effects.

Real Steel: Is not a "Cheap" made movie. The actors cast in the movie are "GOOD", and the story line is very family oriented. It can appeal to both a younger, and older crowd.

The CGI effects are good, I like the close up views on the Robots.

I would recommend that if you like Sci-Fi, you should give this a view. If you remotely enjoyed any of the vast "Marvel" movies that have been spewing out of Hollywood as of late? I don't see any reason why you would not like this movie.

This movie is just as good as any Super Hero movie that has came out...With a sort of "Rocky" touch to it.

And, you can let your kids watch it. Which is the least you can say for a lot of movies coming out these days.

Ancient Aliens (2009– )
8/10
Ancient Aliens Is a thought provoking show.
17 January 2012
First off it is safe to say the show is obviously about the theory of Ancient Aliens...Hence the name.

Having said that, as with any theory one is challenged with making up their own mind when it comes to the belief or non-belief in said theory.

The show presents a lot of topics to research, and give some thought too.

I personally enjoyed the show, because it is hard for me to accept the fact that we think we know everything there is to know about our existence. Which, we have, throughout our own history dis-proved our own beliefs countless times, although very reluctantly in most cases.

Example: We once thought the Earth was the center of the universe and that everything revolved around us. (we thought we were the "Pinnacle" of creation) Then it was discovered that the sun don't orbit us, we in fact orbit it. Then we discovered that we are not even in the center of our galaxy. We are in fact out on almost the outer reaches of one of its arms.

We still have people that think we are the "Pinnacle" of creation. Which is their right to believe as such I suppose.

However, within our brief existence it would be very naive at best to say that we have all the answers, and that we are all-knowing.

Clearly we are not.

The two most prominent religions in the world are Christianity & Muslim/Islam.

Each of these would most likely be inclined to not give faith or belief to such speculations, ideas, or topics. Which I guess is rightfully so. However, the Vatican now has an observatory.

And, even in the show it is stated that one's belief in other life in the universe does not negate one's belief in God.

Nonetheless, I find it very hard to believe we are the only intelligent life in the universe. Therefore, I enjoyed this show a great deal.

Fact is...no one can say for sure there were Ancient Aliens here on Earth at one time, or that they were not. There really is not enough evidence to prove or disprove the subject matter.

In the end, it gives some things to be considered and pondered. Which is the whole point of the show in the first place.

Be careful about "Debunking" something, or you might wind up looking as silly as the person did that thought the sun orbited us.

Be careful about jumping on the band wagon of some theory that can't be proved, or you might wind up looking as silly as the person that thought the world was flat.

Just keep an open mind. Who says you have to Confirm or Deny everything? Where is that law written? Can't people be allowed to watch the show, and form their own opinions? Why all the finger pointing? You know when you point your finger at someone you got three pointing back at yourself right?
