The Gentlemen (2024)
Absolutely brilliant
Well worth a watch - instant classic. Guy Ritchie making a series is just a wonderful thing. 8 pockets of brilliance, almost like 8 movies in one.
Main characters absolutely knock it out of the park.. also you have to love the nods to various other shows and series throughout. A refreshing set of new faces as well.
I also really enjoyed the fact the locations used were NOT ones that were obvious / well known. None of the old tired locations like Dyrham Park and Royal Naval College.
Please can there be a series two. Guy Ritchie is probably the best gangster film writer alive and we are very lucky to have him!
All the Light We Cannot See (2023)
Bad Writing and Accents Distract
Strange, jarring choices of language and casting impact on what would have been a great mini-series, with some excellent performances from Hugh Laurie, Aria Mia Loberti and Louis Hofmann. Mark Ruffalo's UK accent however is appalling! Why would you cast someone who just can't do it? It beggars belief.
Was this written during the writing strike? It certainly seems that way. The script is muddy and slow. The German officer's performances are well-worn caricatures, indeed they are so similar, that it is sometimes hard to tell them apart.
Disappointed, but still some great work done here by some.
