Sailor Beware (1956)
Great Film
I think that this film is a great, great great comedy work of art, staring Peggy Mount as the mother in law trying to organise her daughters, Shirley Eaton's wedding day to sailor Ronald Lewis. Peggy Mounts character is like an earlier version and sterner Hyacynth "Bucket" oops Bouquet.
Peggy Mount is supported wonderfully as usual by Esam Cannon, the mad little pixie as Sid James called her, she is dithering about as usual obeying her older sister Emma's (P. Mounts) Commands. Esma Cannon, is as dopey as ever in this comedy classic her bumbling character Edie making all of the mistakes and being shouted at by her sister. Suppoorted fantastically by the brilliant Dame Thora Hird, couldn't ask for a better cast to pull off this great piece of family entertainment, in the Golden Days of Comedy, they don't make comedy like this anymore, unfortunately!!!!!!!
An Audience with Kenneth Williams (1983)
Fantastic
What a great Audience with show. Mind you look at who the audience was with, its bound to be funny isn't it? Kenneth Williams was a one off, no one can replace him or should even try. His superb wit and humour is fantastic.
I wasn't sure what to make of it at first because he spoke so fast but now that i have seen it two or three times i understand 3 - quarters of the jokes that he told. You have to listen to his every word to understand the topic and to get the punchline of his jokes.
I think that it was a great show and covered a lot of history, right from his days in CSE and the Army, then through theatre and the Carry Ons right up to date, well what was then in 1983, as any Kenny Williams fans will know he made us laugh for another five years after this show however his body began to cry for help i think.
A great comedian, actor, theatre actor and writer, a remarkable man with a funny voice, brilliant only wish that i had been born before he died to enjoy his up to date work.
R.I.P Kenneth Williams - you are greatly missed.
Keeping Up Appearances (1990)
Great, clean fun, sitcom at its very best.
I think that Keeping Up Appearances was marvellous, i love it. It never fails to have me in stitches no matter what episode, however it makes you wonder why Richard puts up with it, why he didn't divorce Hyacinth or marry her in the first place.
Patricia Routledge is a marvellous clown and was made for the role of Hyyacynth Bucket, Clive Swift was excellent as Richard and Daisy, Onslow and Rose well couldn't get better.
Keeping up Appearances is one of the very best sitcoms of the 90's and should be on television every week without fail along with the fabulous Roy Clarke's Last of the summer Wine.
Star Trek: The Cage (1966)
Okay but not as good as second pilot
They gave it a go, and hey, it didn't really prove itself to the network as being a worthwhile science-fiction series. Gene Roddenberry done right to give it another shot though, replacing Hunter was probably a good idea, it may just be me but i don't think that role was right for him, William Shatner looked comfortable with the role Hunter seemed stiff and uncomfortable.
This pilot is okay, but just think if a second hadn't of been made star trek may not have been born. I am a big Star Trek fan right from a child, the pilot was a good try but Roddenberry certainly cracked it with making the second din't he.
Carry on Teacher (1959)
A good start to the series
I particularly like this carry On, because it looks at something ordinary and makes it funny. Every child goes to school and you get some that play jokes on the teachers and make life a nuisance. Gerald Thomas and Peter Rogers along with Norman Hudis, scriptwriter of this carry on film have picked up on this and turned it into a comedy carry on film.
As usual there is the carry On established cast: Kenneth Williams, Kenneth Connor, Hattie Jacques, Joan Sims and Chalres Hawtrey. They are joined by the marvellous Ted Ray, Rosalind Knight and Leslie Phillips. The children are played by the marvellous Richard O Sullivan who is now residing in a retirement home for actors due to illness, Larry Dann who went on to play sergeant Alec Peters in the Bill on ITV1 and Diane Langton who was uncredited.
The film is set in Mauldin Street school, a child psychiatrist has been granted permission to do some research for an upcoming book, he is accompanied by the school inspector Felictiy Wheeler (Knight), they are shown the Maudlin Street hospitality NOT when Stevens (Sullivan) discovers Mr Wakesfield acting Headmaster (Ted ray) is planning to leave the school. They play lots of funny stunts in order for him to stay, find out what happens in this hilarious carry on.
Carry on at Your Convenience (1971)
Great
Well the team have done it again haven't they! What ever possessed them to make a comedy film based around lavatories i'll never know but who cares? Carry On at your Convienience is packed full of fantastically funny gags, there's the usual cast all together causing mischief down in Brighton on the annual works outing: Sid James as foreman Sid Plummer, Hattie Jacques his wife Beattie Plummer, Kenneth Williams as W.C. Boggs, owner of the factory, Joan Sims, Bernard Bresslaw Charles Hawtreyetc. They are joined by newcomers to the series: Richard O Callaghan, who plays Bogg's Son Mr Lewis, Jacki Piper who played Sid and Hattie's daughter Myrtle and of course leader of the strikes at W.C. Boggs & Sons, Kenneth Cope who plays Vic Spanner, they are supported by wonderful comedy actors such as: Renee Houston, Margaret Nolan etc.
A wonderful carry On, ready for the next one, hopefully it will be just as funny so CARRY ON!*
Carry on Cabby (1963)
Great clean fun
The Carry On Team have done it again with this cab driving caper. Sidney James Plays Charlie Hawkins owner of Speedie Cabs, however when suffering wife Peggy (Hattie Jacques) gets fed up with his attitude to work she sets out to put him out of business by setting up her own cab business called Glam Cabs run by women, phwoar! Of course seeing these dolly birds driving around people instantly like them and favour them instead of using Sid's business.
This is a great addition to the carry on series, with many of the regular faces with the exception of Kenneth williams who could not appear due to other commitments, and introducing Jim Dale as a worrying man who forces Sid to take him and his wife back and forth to the maternity hospital.
I love this one and i know lots of you will TOO, so Carry On Watching!*
Summer Holiday (1963)
Great film
Cliff is a great singer, always has been always will. When i first heard from my Nan that he made movies in the sixties i didn't know what to think, but now that i have seen it, WOW! Cliff is surrounded by great talent and great people. Melvyn Hayes as Cyril, Teddy Green as Steve and of course Una Stubbs as sandy, what a great cast.
Cliff always comes out on top and he certainly did with this one as it was a box office smash in 1963. Good on them. Many people do not like cliff as a singer and say oh my god not in films as well but how many of them have watched Summer Holiday over the years and how many of those people saw it as a kid, it annoys me that Cliff is criticised over many things, such as he isn't married so he must be gay!, it is a better lifestyle for Cliff as he hasn't got a family to think about, he can go on tour and has no ties.
Summer Holiday is a great musical comedy family movie, i love it and i know many other people do too.
Carry on Columbus (1992)
It's alright
This is an alright Carry On however it's just not the same is it. Jim Dale does his best supported by a handful of Carry On regulars such as Jack Douglas, Bernard Cribbins and Leslie Phillips but it's just not the same without Sid, Kenney Williams and the others. I cannot decide whether or not Peter Rogers and Gerald Thomas were right to make this one because although it is titled carry on, it isn't really because there is not familiar faces apart from Jim and the few mentioned above. What i cant understand is why the older cast members only had small parts and the new comedians had larger parts, it's a carry on film, the cast should have had the largest parts and been supported by the new comers to the series.
Carry on Dick (1974)
What a good Carry On
Well what a good Carry On Film for Sid James, Barbara Windsor and Hattie Jacques to retire from the series on.
The Carry On team produced some great historical comedies but this was the one for me personally. Sid James was made for the part of Dick Turpin/Reverend Flasher. Usual cast together for one last time, Kenneth Williams and Kenneth Connor, Bernard Bresslaw. the whole gang.
What a good idea to do a historical comedy set around Dick Turpin, one of England's most notorious highwaymen of the 16th century. The Carry on Gang have done the series proud. In his last carry on appearance Sid James still manages to steal the film as his character. LAST OF THE GREAT CARRY ONS! The series began to decline after this one, one reason NO SID James!
Carry on Camping (1969)
Wow
This is the one, out of all 31 carry on films, this is the very best, you have got the whole team, Sid, Kenneth, Joan, Hattie, Charles, Bernard and Peter all causing mischief in this fantastic Carry On Camping. Gerald Thomas and Peter Rogers have done it, they have created one of the best comedy films of the sixties (my opinion).
What a good idea of them to come up with a carry on that involves the whole gang out in a field, in tents etc. Bernard Bresslaw is hilarious when he rips through the tent roof. Kenneth Williams's fantastic performance as usual and Terry Scott a hero, continued to work although ill.
One of my very favourite Carry Ons and i know many others will like it too!
The Early Bird (1965)
What a fantastic Comedy film
This is a great film, one of the very best Norman Wisdom films, the opening 10 minutes fantastic, how he makes a scene with no speech so funny, it takes a lot of work to make a scene like that funny if there is no speech but he does it so naturally, the falling down the stairs with the cup of tea and still having a full cup at the bottom, marvellous truly marvellous. Norman Wisdom is fantastic at physical comedy, the way he falls about, and still does it now in his 90's, thats a real comedy genius. He is one of my favourite comedy actors, i love him and think that he is truly a comedy great. The whole collection of Wisdoms films are brilliant but this one for me because of the fantastic clown mime sequence at the beginning of the film comes top.
