I liked this episode a lot. It's a good series premiere and it has a lot of great moments. I wish Damon was in it more, but he is throughout the rest of the show, so why am I complaining?

In this episode, we meet Elena Gilbert. A nice, fun, sixteen-year-old, who's parents recently died. She, now living with her brother, Jeremy, and Aunt Jenna, tries to prepare herself for the first day back to school. Her best friend Bonnie is supportive and her other friend Caroline seems a little too noisy. She has a horrible teacher who literally says her parents dying isn't an excuse for not knowing facts, even though everyone else didn't know it either. Elena's ex-boyfriend, Matt, tries to be friends with her again, but is finding it hard. A new guy comes to school, Stefan Salvatore, who has a secret. He's a vampire. But a good one. He meets Elena and they have a connection. Stefan is happy to be back in Mystic Falls, Virginia, where the show is set, until his murderous, also vampire, brother, Damon, comes back to town.

Best part of the episode: Damon.

Worst part of the episode: Tyler.

Overall, I give this episode an 8 out of 10, which in my ratings book is: Awesome.
