I don't even know what attracted me to this series as I hadn't heard anything about it or the books it's based on, but...WOW. Ten minutes in I was completely immersed in the Ferrante's world. The performances, the direction, the production are awe-inspiring; Max Richter's score soars.

Elena, a writer in her 60s, is inspired to write the story of her childhood and her dearest friend when that friend goes missing. She begins in her tale in post-WWII Naples, in the small impoverished town where she first met Lila Cerullo, who would become the most influential person in her life.

That's the overall plot, but it says nothing about the nuances and the seamless way Ferrante weaves together so many narratives into on perfect piece. I'm blown away; no easy task, as I am a brutal critic.

After the first episode I was going to stop and read the books first before returning to the series, but really, who am I kidding? I'm addicted.
