I have to admit that The Simpsons have been a blind spot for me in the last twenty years - of course I noticed their reflection in the news, but hardly ever watched an episode of theirs on TV (well, I hardly ever watch TV at all, except when hospitalized :). In preparation for this year's Xmas season, I presented myself with their Season 1.. and liked it so much that I bought 2..5, 8, 11 as well, and am now going through them with much enjoyment.
This episode amazed me so much that I just have to comment on it. Apu, the Indian manager of Springfield Kwik-E-Mart, has been around since Season 1, but here he is starring for the first time (and India with him). Appropriately we get to see his song & dance number, as typical with Bollywood movies, as well as clips from a mock Indian film (with more song & dance), and an adventurous voyage to India as well. Hilarious, as befits a comedy, but also sensible about the serious reality behind the topics (take Apu's and Homer's brief discussion of Karma, for instance).
As I love Indian movies, I enjoyed this episode so very much. The only thing I missed were silly police inspectors driving around in khaki-colored jeeps..
