Caesar crosses the Aruba-con
imakk200110 October 2017
Warning: Spoilers
The Time Bureau, much like their older sibling Legends, didn't fall far from their tree. Both are inept, blundering around with swagger. And both created by an inept, blundering, swaggering Rip Hunter. This rivalry will be FUN!

Love Jax sputtering around trying to not get in a pickle regarding Lily's *ahem* situation. Do I sense a shotgun wedding in the future?! The set up for Jax and Martin doesn't bode well, though.

Spot on with Simon Merrells' Julius Caesar. Anyone else saying those lines would sound and look like a buffoon. But Merrells was perfect. And the writing match the actor's talent, because Julius Caesar was no one's fool. Thank you LoT casting and writers.

Agent "Hot Cakes" (thanks Mick) was bad@ass anchoring Sara for that fight sequence. Refreshing to see that what was potentially a sneering cardboard minion actually got the moves to back up her attitude. Calling it now: Hot Cakes and Sara are totally going to knock boots by season's end.

We got Firestorm in action, Mick in a sarong, and Sara working at DCCWverse's Bed Bath & Beyond?! Yep, LoT is back in all its wonderful, crazy glory. I laughed and was excited through out the ep, all that I want from a superhero show. Score: 9

We came. We saw. We kicked Caesar's a*s

Warning: Spoilers
Legends may not always make sense or have perfectly scripted episodes, but man they are a lot fun. And that's the best way to describe this episode; fun! It wasn't an outstanding episode by any means but it was a decent season opener. We got the introduction of Rip Hunter's Time Bureau, which in fact was the main theme of the episode, and I'm interested to see what role they play in this season. How often will they stand against the Legends? How often will they stand aside them? Will be interesting to see how that pans out. Found it quite funny seeing all the Legends in their "real world" jobs, and Mick finally in Aruba! Also loved the Wally appearance, him and Nate look like they would make a fun superhero duo. Could we see Wally become a permanent Legend?? Also, we finally got Julius Caesar in an episode so I was very excited about that. At this point in time we don't know who/what the main villain of the season will be, but it already seems like they will have a connection to the Time Bureau. And finally, that last scene, what's up with Amaya? Overall enjoyed the episode, nothing to special but a lot of laughs and fun.

So much fun!
wolfpup320 October 2017
(Note that I'm giving it a 10 using the old Netflix scale of 5/5 being "I loved it", not that I think this is the greatest thing of all time or utterly perfect.)

I really, really wanted to like Legends in the first season. Piles of great characters, superheroes, a freaking space ship that's also a timeship. There was virtually unlimited potential for what they could do...but IMO the writing just wasn't there.

And then some new writers came in on S2, and from the 3rd episode on, it's just been a lot more fun. I also LOVE that they made Sara the captain. She's just so much better than Rip (and I love how they're using Rip as of S3). And somehow Sara just keeps getting cooler.

Well from this first episode of S3, I think I'm liking it even MORE than S2. The writing seems even sharper, the characters more natural still (night and day difference from the sort of awkwardness of S1), and SO many fun ideas.

Honestly I'd have been perfectly happy had I seen this first episode in a theater. It's probably better conceived than Guardians of the Galaxy 2 was.

So many fun moments, though I'd watch it just for Sara beating the **** out of Julius Caesar :-D Hell, Wally's cameo was somehow more fun than he usually is on his own show! (And the actor that plays Gideon got her SECOND on-screen cameo of the series, to fun effect.)

Introducing the Time Bureau
ThomasDrufke11 October 2017
Out of the 4 CW superhero shows, Legends was the one I probably missed the least. It's always been fun, but there was nothing season 2 did to get me excited for season 3. Ending the season in a dinosaur- filled Los Angeles? Yeah that's not exactly an original idea from the Legends. And to be completely honest, before the show had its "last season on Legends of Tomorrow", I didn't remember a whole lot from last year.

So Rip shows up with the newly formed "Time Bureau" to shut down the Legends chance to save the city and they disband because they're told there is no longer a place for the time-jumping lunatics. Sounds like something we have seen before? Well, that's because it is. The Legends have already disbanded on several occasions, and believe it or not, they always come back together. It just felt like a tired idea, especially after just watching a Flash episode where Barry magically returned from the speed force in one episode, it was just downright annoying that the Legends had to separate and then come back together in a matter of minutes.

Speaking of Flash, Wally briefly made an appearance as Nate attempted to fight off crime in Central City for the "6 months" the Legends were separated. But the fun of Legends has always been the goofy but undeniably entertaining ways they team up as a group to fight a baddie. This year's big bad is yet to be determined, but Rip seemed to mention a certain name to his fellow Time Bureau member, so I'm sure it's not far off.

Much like the other two CW shows this week, it hasn't been the best of starts this year. I can't help but think that some shows are in dire need of a shake-up, and not necessarily a big shake-up. Just a few touches here and there and maybe a character or two and they could be on their way. So while Aruba-con was a fun concept in principal (it was about time they included Julius Caesar right?) it didn't have the execution that it needed.

5 years to train the perfect time agents and blames legends for time snafu?
jaccer1110 November 2018
So Rip is blaming the Legends for breaking history? And some how trained a team of professionals in 5 years, who some how have more experience than the Legends? And he doesn't even offer some sort of compensation for their service? Even after saving the world and destroying the spear? Stupid story lines like this get frustrating. I still enjoy the show though!

It's still keeping momentum... but the Time Bureau and Rip are just making me rip out my hair! They're so annoying! Grrrrr! But it's still getting good and hope it still keeps it's throughout this season and beyond.

So many plot holes.
sellmyaccount4920 May 2021
What is wrong with the writers on this show? For the most part the story arcs are decent but there are so many obvious plot holes. Up until now I have been content merely yelling at my television but they have just been getting worse. This episode is the one that broke it for me. Okay so Rip is trying to disband the team because of the mistakes that they have been making, so the team goes off on their own to return Julius Ceasar to ancient Rome. As theyre droppimg him off, Nate Heywood checks this giant history book to make sure the timeline was restored. First of all letting Caesar see this book is obviously a bad idea and second as theyre walking away it shows Caesar has somehow managed to "pickpocket" this huge book away from Nate. How would this ever be reasonable, how do you not notice youre not carrying this giant book anymore? Its just like in the previous episode, season 2 finale when all the speedsters showed up to get the spear of destiny and yet Sara Lance had all the time in the world to finish the incantation, wouldnt the spear be the first thing all the speedsters went for? This writing seems incredibly lazy, I don't see how more pople don't have a problems with some of this awful writing. The show could be much better if some of these plot holes were axtually thought out a little more.

Wasted Potential ... (again)
lassegalsgaard-4528416 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
This is definitely the most expensive show on The CW and one of the shows that has the biggest and most impressive production value. It has a lot to juggle around and a lot to play with, and I do think that is impressive. However, I have not yet managed to find something hopeful in this show and I don't think that the show has lived up to its fullest potential. Is it a fun show with some very entertaining cast members? Yes. But it doesn't have the big story arcs that it should have. I think the previous season came the closest to actually having a real threat to this team. And that season ended on a huge cliffhanger that gave the showrunners a whole new world to explore. However, like "The Flash" this week, the writers missed a huge opportunity and wasted the potential. There were some things to take away from "Aruba-Con," but for the majority it was a pretty disappointing beginning to this season. But however how disappointed I get in this show, the dynamic between the team always offers up some fun laughs, and I have to say that the dynamic has never been better. There were so many sweet and great moments between the members of the team, and when they got back together after being apart for a little while, it felt like they had never left the screen and continued filming even during the their break. I also think they did a good job of developing some of the characters, but mostly Martin Stein. It is a sad situation that we are approaching the final episodes of Victor Garber as this character, because he is really good, but I think that they are doing a great job of setting up his departure from the show at this point, by making something different out of his family and his overall character. I like the way they are going with him, and I can't wait to see how it all ends. That is pretty much all the things that this episode has going for it, because it is not a good episode. Probably the worst of the three premieres so far. And that is a shame, because the Season 2 premiere was one of the best and they had a big fence to climb over, and they didn't manage to even though I definitely think they could have. With everything they set up in the finale of Season 2, there were so many ways they could have gone. And the showrunners chose to go with none of those routes and just retcon everything that they left open. One of the things that irritated me the most in this episode, was the inconsistency of Rip Hunter. The last thing he said during the final episode was that he was proud of the way things were going with the Legends and that they should continue because he had faith in them. Well, apparently he didn't, because he immediately returns in this episode as a douchebag, having created a new thing called the Time Bureau. And I hate the Time Bureau. Their place in all this seems so dump and it is something that could be used an easy thing in the writers room, because they can just come in and change everything if the writers don't like what they are setting up. They were the worst part of the episode, by far. I will also say that the writing for some of the supporting characters are horrible, and the actors they get are even worse. I truly hate some of the minor additions in this episode, and even though they didn't fill a lot of it, they had a presence that just stayed with me in the most horrible way possible. I don't get why the writers constantly tries to include forced humor into these scenes, when the characters in and of themselves are funny. The writing for those characters are great, but for some reason, the writers keep mess up with the supporting characters. And especially the historical ones, because Caesar was one of the most cringeworthy characters they have ever brought on the show. I really don't know where this season is going, but I hope that it will definitely get a hell of a lot better.

Legends in Black?
franktutor9 October 2021
Warning: Spoilers
Just when you thought this show couldn't get worse, Season 3 starts.

Assassin chick beats up Caesar with some of her ridiculous spinny moves - in a real fight, she'd get pummeled.

The Time Bureau is a very poor man's Men in Black, complete with a mind erasing device that doesn't seem to erase minds - after it's used on Caesar, he still remembers stealing a book and why he stole it.

The plot is generic. Nothing fun here. More cringy posing and delivery of lines from a bunch of people who can't act their way out of a paper bag.
