Thwarted Mick, Tripping Nate and Patchy Ray brought home the funny bacon

Warning: Spoilers
While I like the rivalry between Sara and the Time Bureau (TB), I think it's time to cut back TB's appearances to every other ep. It's getting too predictable. But Gary is growing on me?

Still not a fan of Nate, but that was impressive taking the whatchamacallit first, and then high as a kite while trying to reach the team. The writing keeps this up, I might like him, too. Ray being Ray with his soul patch AND eye patch. Didn't realize how much I missed Mick's Roryness until today's ep. Not sure about this Somber Sisterhood of Totems between Amaya and Zari. But at least no more angsty Amaya. Sara tangled with a baddie who kicked her behind?! I smell a rematch coming.

Totems
ThomasDrufke25 October 2017
Two new female characters made their official debut tonight, one seemingly a new member of the team, and the other likely to be the big bad of this season. Zari, a tech guru with some superhuman-like abilities with the help of a totem, was the target of one Kuasa. Kuasa, who briefly appeared last week, looks to be the Legends big threat this year. What her true intentions are and why she goes around barely saying a word are two mysteries for a later date, but I quite enjoyed both of their roles tonight.

With all of the testosterone on the waverider, the team could use another female voice, especially one that has a different past and displays different abilities. Whether or not she will be the team's eyes and ears with tech and hacking is yet to be seen (but likely), but at least she has a different background than any of the Legends. After all, she is from the future.

Kuasa on the other hand gave me a mixed reaction. This show has yet to nail a villain, and I know Kuasa will offer something different, but I was just overall confused as to what her motives were. She literally said a few lines, did a few water tricks, killed some folks, and went on her way. If I'm going to invest myself in her character, I'm gonna need some background. At least she's not Vandal Savage…

The rest of the episode was filled with more time-bureau drama, Amaya controlling her issue with her totem, and typical Legends' shenanigans. I should also give some credit to Nick Zano for having some solid comedic timing while Nate was "on drugs". Overall, it wasn't too shabby. I appreciate the things this show is trying, but it's still lacking in the villain department.

Keeping the Momentum...
lassegalsgaard-4528420 January 2018
Warning: Spoilers
So, what happened last year was that the show decided to go with something different and created a team of villains to go after our heroes. I always liked that idea, and after seeing what happened towards the end of the last season, I do think that they created some very well-developed antagonists. Even though they were all characters that we knew from other shows, they still managed to further develop some of them to a very good point. This year, I still don't know what they are doing with the villain. For now, it seems like Kuasa is going to be a big threat for our heroes to take care of, but I still think there is something deeper lurking behind the facade. But so far, this is our villain and I think that this episode proved that she will become a very interesting character, even though we didn't learn that much about her in this episode. I still think we learned enough, and that the writers have created something that future episodes could dive into and explore a bit more.

This episode continued the momentum from the last episode. It added to the ungoing storyline and gave us a better look into what's happening with Amaya, who is going to have a huge year with this season. And she has always been a character that seemed misplaced to me, and it didn't seem like she served a purpose besides being Nate's love interest. I like they are putting more focus on her character, as well as her abilities and her nation. It's going to be something that I will be excited to explore more of, and for the first time in a over a year, I am actually interested in Amaya Jiwe.

I think that the introduction of Zari was handled very well, even though I felt like her religion was forced into this episode. It didn't matter whether or not she was Muslim, so I didn't see the meaning in bringing it up so early. However, I liked the character and the development that happened with her. It's going to be interesting to see how the writers will further develop this relationship that she has with Amaya. Also, this character have some connections to Black Adam, so maybe he is going to make an appearance at some point.

I will also give credit to the acting in this episode, especially Tala Ashe who really emersed herself into this role and gave some stakes to pretty emotional scenes. I like that she is staying on as a series regular and that she will have some more to do with the team, but I have an idea that her character might change at some point in the season to more of a villainous character, because of her role in the comicbooks. It will be interesting to see what happens to her, and if she is able to play a bad guy character.

Nick Zano also had some great timing in this episode, as he had to be the more comedic part. His entire storyline basically centered on this drug that he and Amaya took, but while she went on a spiritual journey, he just got high. Zano proved that he has some amazing timing and that he can do nothing wrong when he really pushes his skills to the limit. It also depends on if he is given the right material, and he usually isn't, because his jokes are ones that lands the least, so I don't know if these scenes had some improvisation involved, or if the writers just upped their game a little bit.

The big negative is once again the Time Bureau. I really don't like these characters. I have no idea why they are involved with the show, and as it stands right now, it seems like they are going to have nothing to really do as the show progresses. Granted, that is kind of what I want to happen at this point, but I always hate when writers fail to write some interesting or deep characters that we can get invested in. I hate these characters, especially that stupid goofball Gary, who I just hope gets killed at some point soon.
