Being satirized on Saturday Night Live is a right of passage for newsmakers and institutions, and many of them consider the attention well worth having the joke on them.
Ok, maybe not Sen. Katie Britt.
But for the people at NPR who produce Tiny Desk Concerts, SNL‘s March 30th episode—which featured a sketch parodying their now venerable and suitably idiosyncratic internet series—was validation worthy of celebration.
And in perfectly quirky Tiny Desk fashion, they are celebrating it by displaying a cue card from the SNL sketch as part of their familiar overstuffed desk “set.”
“I thought it was great,” says Bobby Carter, the host and producer of the signature NPR series. “It was super flattering. When SNL does anything, whether they’re making fun of you or not, it’s a form of flattery.”
Well, let’s consider what SNL did with “Tiny Desk” in the sketch.

It’s time for some “CSI: Nielsen Ratings.”
CBS is set to win the 2023-24 season as the most-watched network — again — it’s now been 16 straight seasons of the same. CBS has now broken broadcast television’s longest winning streak on record, which was also CBS: From 1955 to 1970, when “Gunsmoke,” “The Andy Griffith Show,” and (some of) “I Love Lucy” ruled its airwaves.
Fast-forward 50 years to the current TV season, which runs from fall (September) through spring (May), and CBS has won 21 of the past 22 years. CBS is also poised to win the season among adults 18-49, long-considered the key demographic for advertisers, as well as its own target market, viewers 25-54. It is also number 1 this year among 18-34-year-olds; Super Bowl Lviii sure helped CBS pull those victories out of its football helmet.

Every man in “A Man In Full” is a piece of shit. They’re selfish, they’re abusive, they’re obsessed with their balls — not one could hold a baby without making them cry. But the first sign that Netflix’s six-episode series has gone awry is that they’re not total pieces of shit. They’re mostly, partly, or just a little bit shitty, and their failures to embrace the truest, richest, most complete versions of themselves turns out toothless satire, sharing little of note about these buffoonish bros and even less about modern society.

[Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for The Idea of You.] We’ve got to talk about that ending. Prime Video‘s The Idea of You ends on a very different note from Robinne Lee’s bestselling novel, which follows 40-year-old single mom Solène (Anne Hathaway) and her romance with Hayes Campbell (Nicholas Galitzine), the 24-year-old lead singer of the widely popular boy band August Moon. The end of the film flashes forward five years after Solène and Hayes’ breakup. In the final moments, Hayes shows up at Solène’s art gallery, giving viewers hope that these two will get back together. However, that’s not how Solène and Hayes’ story ended in the book. “There’s a very long history in romantic movies of changing the ending so that the two main characters are together at the end. There’s a bit of a pragmatic answer to this, which is that movie audiences just want ...

Prolific author Stephen King was such a fan of Netflix’s Baby Reindeer that he penned an entire article praising the show, calling it “one of the best things” he’s ever seen. In an article for the U.K.’s Times, King said a friend had recommended the hit series to him, saying it made Misery, both the book and the film, “look like a kids’ cartoon.” “Like 13.3 million other Netflix subscribers, I tried it and found myself sucked in, unable to look away,” King wrote. “My first thought was to thank God my novel came first, or people would assume I’d stolen it from Richard Gadd.” Baby Reindeer, written by and starring Richard Gadd, centers on Gadd’s Donny Dunn, a struggling stand-up comedian who takes pity on a lonely woman, Martha (Jessica Gunning), at the bar where he works. This brief encounter soon spirals into a months-long...

And you thought waiting for the back half of a “Stranger Things” season was agonizing. Netflix is splitting the final season of “Cobra Kai,” Season 6, into three parts.
You read that right. Though it has become commonplace for Netflix to divide new seasons of its biggest hits into two parts, this is the first time the streamer has split a season (of any series) into thirds. The next-up example of a hit Netflix original being halved is mere weeks away. The eight-episode “Bridgerton” Season 3 will premiere the first four on May 16 and the back half on June 13.

“Hacks” is, and has always been, a relationship comedy. The HBO Max series from Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky takes an exhaustively progressive Gen Z comedy writer and pairs her with a legendary stand-up comic whose worldview has become as stale as her jokes. The first season harvested humor from their prickly interactions, as both Ava (Hannah Einbinder) and Deborah (Jean Smart) felt each other out while finding a working rhythm. In Season 2, they took their show on the road, driving their fragile yet fruitful new connection toward a creative explosion or a close-quarters’ flare-out.
Ava and Deborah’s relationship is strictly platonic — Deborah’s running jokes about Ava’s “huge” hands negate any romantic assumptions, which the show itself has also acknowledged as a sneaky running joke of its own — but they’re not without romance. “Hacks” fits the comfortable mold of a romantic-comedy. [Warning: The below contains Major spoilers for Star Trek: Discovery Season 5 Episode 6 “Whistlespeak.”] Just as Tilly’s (Mary Wiseman) questioning herself when it comes to teaching, an away mission puts her in a position to showcase just why she made the right career move as Star Trek: Discovery‘s final season continues. Former roommates Michael (Sonequa Martin-Green) and Tilly head off to collect the next clue to the puzzle that will lead them to the Progenitors’ power—the ultimate goal of the season and something they really don’t want to fall into the wrong hands—and in doing so, the latter is put in a position to take one of the younger people on the planet they’re on under her wing. After that, we can’t help but notice that Tilly seems to operate best under pressure as a teacher, like here and the Season 4 episode with the cadets that led her to leave Discovery.

ABC News’ longtime meteorologist, Rob Marciano, was let go by the network earlier this week, and now sources are claiming a “heated screaming match” led to his firing. According to The Daily Beast, two sources familiar with the situation claimed Marciano went on a tirade against one of the producers of Good Morning America. The outburst was allegedly overheard by the network’s chief meteorologist, Ginger Zee, who reported the incident to higher-ups, noting that it wasn’t the first time Marciano had crossed the line on set. After Zee reported the on-set argument, management decided they’d heard one too many complaints about Marciano’s behavior over the years and fired him. While the exact incident that led to the firing hasn’t been officially confirmed, previous reports have stated Marciano, who joined ABC News in 2014, has a history of temper problems on set. According to Page Six, he...

The Vanderpump Villa was one staff member down at the start of the April 29 episode. Priscila Ferrari broke the news to Lisa Vanderpump that she wanted to exit the Chateau Rosabelle. This decision came after the Brazilian beauty felt homesick and constant clashes with Hannah Fouch from the start of the season. Hannah accused the fellow server of sitting inappropriately with her, it’s complicated to give a title, Marciano Brunette. Here Priscilla opens up about leaving the Hulu reality series. Do you stand by your decision to step away from the show? Priscila Ferrari: At that time, I stood by my decision. There were a lot of things that were not shown in the edit that built up to my exit. I’m proud of myself that I had the strength to walk away. It was a great opportunity working for Lisa and meeting friends and all of that.

Jeopardy! champion Amy Hummel was looking for her sixth consecutive victory on Wednesday night (May 1) but came undone by a “brutal” mispronunciation ruling that cost her the game. Hummel, an ER doctor from Milwaukee, Wisconsin, had already amassed an impressive $100,994 across her first five games and looked to add to that total on Wednesday’s episode. She was up against Nils Cousin, an attorney from Washington, D.C., and Weckiai Rannila, an engineer from Albuquerque, New Mexico. After the first round, the game was close, with Cousin in a slight lead with $6,000, Rannila following behind with $5,400, and Hummel trailing with $3,000. As the three contestants entered the Double Jeopardy round, it was all very much still to play for. But Hummel couldn’t make up the deficit despite finding both Daily Doubles, answering neither correctly. This saw her drop out of contention with just $3,600 going into Final Jeopardy, while Rannila led...

Let’s get one thing straight: The Hacks Season 2 finale, “The One, the Only,” was never designed to be the end of Deborah and Ava’s story. To be sure, these are perilous times for even critically acclaimed shows, so series creators and writers Lucia Aniello, Paul W. Downs, and Jen Statsky may very well have been thinking that the second season finale would be the last episode of their show.

We promise that this Better Call Saul list is all good, man.
First introduced late in Season 2 of Breaking Bad, Bob Odenkirk’s sleazy criminal lawyer extraordinaire, Saul Goodman, immediately became a scene-stealing fan favorite — and then grabbed the spotlight again in Better Call Saul when it premiered in 2015. Co-created by Breaking Bad mastermind Vince Gilligan and Peter Gould (the writer-director of Saul’s first Bad appearance), Better Call Saul serves as both a prequel and sequel to its predecessor. The series covers the years before the man known as Jimmy McGill becomes Saul Goodman, and, ultimately, Omaha Cinnabon manager Gene Takavic, the identity he takes on following the events of Breaking Bad.
Better Call Saul starts off as more of a courtroom and family drama, but the eventual emergence of Breaking Bad power players like Mike Ehrmantraut (Jonathan Banks) and Gus Fring (Giancarlo Esposito) help raise the stakes...
